The Deer Hunter (No. 93)

It was okay.

+ Liz is supposed to be a really good profiler though we don't usually get to see it and the show had mostly dropped it back in season one. So to see her using those apparent abilities and then failing several times was really annoying. I was very irritated with the random crime reporter who figured out that there was a copy cat for them. Why not have Liz figure that out? (Or even Ressler.) You know, showing them competent at their job. Why was the reporter even a part of the episode?

I was also a little annoyed with Red showing up to identify the killer as a woman. This is one instance where Red's all-knowingness bugged me. I did like their back-and-forth. I loved Red's "Together we were right." and the fact that they were both right but just something with that first scene between them rubbed me wrong.

+ That last confrontation scene between Liz/Tracy was really great. I loved that Liz saved herself this time. It makes it a nice change. I especially loved that she did it by using her skills as a profiler and agent against Mary.

+ As always Red proves that Liz is his number one priority when he put covering up the ship debacle for her over meeting the mysterious man on the phone. I do love that.

+ I loved Aram's delighted grin when Red called him by his last name and 'agent'. And his obsession all episode with his hair after Red complimented him on it. It was adorable.

+ We got some parental overtones with red scolding Liz for putting herself in danger but especially with her snarky "what are you going to do ground me? Take away my phone?"

But then there was the final line of the night: "You're afraid. Once you give it to me, you'll be no further use to me and you'll never see me again." and that didn't feel fatherly at all.

+ "To elaborate would place you in grave danger." Ugh. This is so annoying. Red is all about protecting Lizzie so I buy it but that doesn't make it better. Lying and keeping someone in the dark to protect them is usually dumb and this isn't feeling like an exception to me. Especially since Liz is tied up in whatever is going on in some unknown way.

+ "If it weren't for me you would have been indicted today." True but is there really going to be no mention of how Red screwed up? After everything went down Red showed up and got his people to clean up the scene. And they failed. The body was found! (I'm very disappointed in Mr. Kaplan. I thought when she disappeared a body it stayed disappeared. Unless she has it out for Liz.) For some reason Samuel knew where it was. Samuel himself was easily found and threatened into talking about what happened. So yes it was Liz's mess but it was Red's screw-up that he was fixing here.

+ Tracy being a 'blacklister' is a bit weird considering she wasn't someone Red was after or interested in. She wasn't technically one of his 'blacklisters'.
