Root Path

I loved it.

• I love Root. Everything about her delights me. Especially her competence and unending pleasure and sense of joy/fun with everything that happens around her. She has the best expressions. [I love Amy Acker in this role. She is so good.] And now she's starting to grow a conscious, is starting to care, and she doesn't like it which is also delightful. I liked that after Cyrus stated that he didn't like guns Root actually stopped using one around him.

• I am having so many Root/Finch feelings. They were amazing. I love them so much. The scene mid-episode with their discussion about the Machine was a really wonderful scene. This moment:

Root: How badly did you have to break it to make it care about people so much?
Finch: That didn't break it it's what made it work. It's only after I taught the Machine that people mattered that it could began to help them. I'd like to do the same thing for you if you'd let me.

Amazing. Their final scene was also wonderful. Finch actually trying to compromise and reaching out to Root, offering to work with her and to basically bring her into the team! I want that so much. Why can't she just be a part of the team already?

Finally a couple random moments: I love Root putting her arm through Finch's while they were walking in the park and I loved Root telling Finch that Samaratian presented a threat to "our machine".

- "You think I don't care about people, Harold? I'm doing all this to save you." - Root. So was that a singular you or a plural? It felt like the former to me. Though plural including just the group of Finch/Shaw/Reese would also work since Root is very invested in protecting the Machine and they are her best protectors. But no, how she said it felt like she was saying specifically that she was trying to save Harold. And I buy it completely because this episode makes it more clear than ever that she does genuinely care for him.

"She's worried about you Harold. We both are." - Root. Did she actually tell Root that? I love the idea that they chat about Finch, and worry together over his sleeping habits and him not taking care of himself and putting himself in danger. Does the Machine give Root updates on whatever latest thing and Root is just "oh, Harold" and then the Machine sends a text to Reese for a lunch order for Harold. Are we ever going to see Finch and the Machine talking to each other?

• I'm also loving Root/Shaw more than ever. The scene outside the apartment was adorable with Root giving Shaw something to eat (because the Machine told her that Shaw skipped breakfast, heh) and this: "I couldn't make you look bad if I tried." ! ♥ She was totally flirting with her. Then at the end Shaw actually fussing over Root (even if she would call it that) - checking the wound, giving advice to keep it healing - and Root flirting some more ("I love it when you play Doctor.")

• I really love Reese and Shaw as Finch's matching attack dogs. It's a visual that keeps turning up for the past couple episodes - Reese and Shaw on either side of Finch, or standing with him. A matched pair, both Finch's muscle and his bodyguards. I love it so much.

This was cute:

Finch: I'll try and determine what message this is meant to convey.
Shaw: Seems pretty clear to me, Finch.
Reese: I think she likes you Harold.

• Fusco's run-ins with Root were very fun. I love his nicknames for her - "superpowered nutball", "coco-puffs" and "cuckoo's nest", heh. Also him calling Reese "my buddy the urban legend". I also loved the little throw-aways - the reminder about his check, giving him the battery - showing Root, and through her the Machine, taking care of her people in small ways as well.

• I loved the look into Root's side of the equation. The whole sequence with Daizo and Billy was great. Very fun. Root has her own minions! Her and Daizo's little fist bump was adorable. I really hope he shows up again (and doesn't die). Also: "Oh I love it when you do this. (off Billy's look) Not you." Heh.

• One issue I had was Root needing to help Reese and Fusco to save Cyrus. Maybe if there were more guys, or Cyrus was refusing to go with them it would have worked but as is we're expected to believe that John Reese couldn't take out those two minions and save Cyrus? He even had Fusco backup! It was completely unbelievable.
