Lost Girl 1x07 Thoughts

This was a good episode but not great. There was a lot I liked:
- Bo being all excited about her and Kenzi having their first fight
- Bo/Kenzi’s relationships and clear love for each other
- Hale/Kenzi being cute and friends (more please!)
- Hale being all amused/interested in the Dyson/Bo/Lauren triangle
- Bo’s hallucination of Lauren/Kenzi making out and that there was no jealousy/anger over it that you’d expect (it was very much only ‘wtf’)
- That Bo has dark fae contacts (I want to see them)
- Lauren’s snarky “Well, I’m an excellent multi-tasker.”
- The Lauren Dyson sniping (especially during his physical) and the fact that they can still get along professionally/interact politely
- The way Bo and Kenzi switched between being a team, fighting each other and doing both at the same time throughout the episode.
- Serene and her fire ability and position of authority (and her being black, more diversity is good). I hope we see her again especially interacting with the other ladies.
- Lauren being ruthless (both in containing a dangerous situation even though it put Bo in peril, and then in her effort to save Bo)
- Bo saying “Kenzi, sweetie” because I love endearments
- Kenzi’s assertion that “Nobody kills my best friend except me.”
But there was also some stuff that didn’t work for me.
- The Dyson/Bo/Lauren bar scene made no sense and irritated me. Okay, Bo’s “Like a threesome. Not that I’ve thought about it that way or anything.” amused me in an ‘uh huh, sure’ way and I do generally like the Lauren/Dyson snipping. However how they got there doesn’t work for me. First, Lauren and Bo clearly had a date set up and when Dyson refused to leave Bo should have gotten up and left with Lauren. Instead she invites Lauren to sit down and join them. That was enough to get me shaking my head but then after Lauren and Dyson start fighting and Bo’s ‘get everyone drunk’ plan fails and Lauren leaves in a huff Bo just sits there and then snaps at Dyson. Um, Bo this is when you go after your date. The whole thing was just so ridiculous. Bo is pretty bad at this social life thing but that bad?
- The final Dyson/Bo scene really irritated me. Dyson tells Bo that he doesn’t trust Lauren and Bo being so close to her worries him. Bo returns that she trusts her and then states that at least Lauren will admit she has feelings, can he? Dyson’s response to that is this little oh so, mature gem: “Fine. You’ve made your decision. Next time you need to heal you can call Lauren.” Okayyy then. So she tells you point blank that she does trust this other person, and thus your distrust is not enough to get her away from her, and then dares to question your ‘I like you/I don’t like that’ dance and thus... you’re going to flounce off in a ‘so there’ huff with added ‘and I’m taking my toys (ie: me) away when you need me (ie: and so you’ll be sorry!)’ nastiness? Oh, yeah, that’s really mature Dyson.
I have no problem with Dyson saying ‘okay, I don’t want to keep doing the sex thing’ but that’s not what he’s doing here. Here he’s just being a douche, and him flouncing off because she won’t do what he says/take his advice really just makes me roll my eyes at his childishness, but that last line really gets my back up. That was just nasty meanness. It’s one thing to turn her away from sex, another to turn her away from healing sex but it’s a whole new level of asshole to go ‘so next time you need sex to heal/not die why don’t you sex up your human girlfriend, even though you, and I, know you can’t since you’ll kill her’. It’s like rubbing salt in the wounds. Bo took it a lot better than I did. So – “Are we pissed at Dyson again?” – yes, yes we are, Kenzi.
- I’m not pleased with the hint/implication that Lauren could turn out to be a ‘bad guy’. I want Bo to be right to trust her and that in the end Lauren will have her back.
- I have to admit I was a little ‘aw, shucks’ about Bo comparing it to her and Kenzi to being sisters. I prefer them just calling/referring to themselves as family. Either way though it’s not going to stop me shipping them.
- The spider bad guy was bad enough, though it was nice the CGI was so fake looking, but the spider in the shower was double large ew.
