I didn’t really like the pilot. It was okay but I had issues with it. Kara being blamed for the alien jail escape annoyed me. I didn’t much like Cat and I thought her discussion with Kara over the Supergirl name was terrible. Overall it simply fell flat for me though there were enough good points [Kara/Alex, James, Kara saving the plane scene, the lighter tone] that I decided to keep watching.

My biggest issue with the series by far is how the show has chosen to deal with Clark/Superman. It really, really bothers me that he gave her over to a human family, friends or not, and then apparently completely abandoned her. It makes him look terrible and more importantly it makes absolutely no sense. He never visited her or kept in touch in any way; he didn’t help her acclimate to a new world or help her with her new abilities; he never took her to the Fortress (which is the last piece of her home as well, plus she actually knew Jor-El); he didn’t even stop by to learn more about Krypton and their family. Just – wtf, Clark, wtf? I realise that in other canons Clark can definitely be kind of a dick (seriously Clark be a better dad to Kon) but it bothers me so much here. I guess I'm a lot more protective of Clark then I thought. I just can't wrap my head around such a complete abandonment. It doesn't make sense to me. I mean even on a very basic and selfish level there should have been some contact there. Ugh.

It’s something that I’m going to have to get over but it really irritates me. There are many better ways they could have dealt with him as a character without him becoming too big a part of the series, or a crutch, without making him look terrible.

1x02 ‘Stronger Together’

I liked this episode a lot more than the pilot.

+ The Kara/Alex relationship was my favourite part of the pilot and they continue to be great. I love how close they are. I loved Alex setting up a Fortress for Kara.

+ Cat worked for me a lot more this ep. In fact I kind of love her now. Her relationship with Kara is excellent. ”Supergirl should take a page out of your book, Kara.” I really loved this - Cat comparing Supergirl to Kara with Kara coming out on top, a semi-stealth compliment.

+ The alley scene with James and Winn learning that they both know about Supergirl and their competiveness was cute, and them working together to help her with her image was fun. I like her having a team of people to help her.

+ James continues to be super hot. I think James/Kara are lovely but I do find his investment in her a bit much this early in their relationship.

+ I liked that Alex saved herself.

+ I thought Melissa Benoist did well in both her big emotional scenes – when she first saw Astra and then when she told the hologram of her mother that ‘she’d ask for a hug’.

1x03 ‘Stronger Together’

+ That little text conversation between Kara and Clark was the best. My favourite moment on the show yet. This is what I wanted from their relationship. Clark making that first step to reach out and say hi, him telling her that he will step back to let her make her own way (complete with emoticon - adorable), reassuring her that she is doing great and then this: "You stopped Reactron. Something I could never do. Guess it was a job for Supergirl." And then he ends their exchange with "What else is family for? Love it. Why couldn't this have been how things were between them? I love the idea of him being a (maybe) distant but friendly and supportive presence in her life so much more. [Because that last line despite how much I loved it doesn't actually reflect that well back on Clark considering he abandoned her for a decade!]

+ I love Cat’s competitiveness with the Daily Planet (especially considering her backstory as Perry White's assistant.)

+ I can’t believe that James spilled Superman’s identity like that. WTF? I loved Winn’s reaction but there had to be a better way to drop that secret. A way that didn't make James look terrible.

+ "Krull's not some crazed alien, he’s a human being." - Kara. This bugged me a lot. It feels like the show saying aliens = crazed bad guy while the human is deserving of compassion and help by virtue of being human. Which considering our lead is an alien doesn't sit right with me. Actually I hate this sentence.

+ I loved Jimmy's Superman signal watch. I love where they went with him using it as a crutch everytime he was scared and that his move to National City was in part to try and break away from relaying on Superman so much. Also I love that Clark gave Jimmy a signal watch.

+ "I may not need Superman to be a hero but I will always need you." Kara/Alex continue to be lovely.

+ I'm not a fan of them adding in a love triangle three episodes in. Why?
