Episode 7

+ Wook/Soo are really sweet. I loved him waylaying her during her duties and the calligraphy scene was really nice. I loved her being distracted by his closeness when he was showing her how to write and him giving her the bracelet.

+ I liked the bittersweetness when Wook realises that Myung Hee read his love poem for Soo to her.

+ So and Soo also had a number of nice scenes. I liked his slow understanding at Eun's birthday that he likes Soo. When he was dragged back to the party after his revelation his inability to not smile at Soo was really sweet. I also liked their moments earlier - when he got angry over the fact that she almost died and him showing her around the palace grounds.

+ I like the Grand General a lot.

+ Soo's present for Eun was sweet.

+ I really like Wook’s mother. She is lovely. Her friendliness with Soo and Lady Oh was nice.

+ I loved Soo using her knowledge to help crown prince Mu and their little moment of friendliness at the party.

Episode 8

+ I loved Soo using her skill with cosmetics to help So cover his scar. That entire scene was great. I loved her tracing his scar and that moment when their faces got too close together and they couldn’t help but notice each other. They had some really great chemistry as well. I also liked that when he moved in to kiss her and saw she was shocked and not reciprocating he stopped and didn’t push.

+ I'm disappointed that we didn’t get to see So’s reaction to his unblemished face for the first time. That scar has been the source of So’s grief and shame and insecurity and it disappearing, if only for a short while, and being able to see himself whole for the first time is a huge deal for him! I’m really not sure why we didn’t.

+ I loved the Soo/Court Lady Oh scenes. I love their growing friendship.

+ I really like the relationship between the Grand General and his daughter.

+ The shot of the rain washing away the make-up covering So’s scar was great. I love the ominousness and danger in that shot.

Episode 9

+ Soo/Wook continue to be lovely. The picture flip book of their walk in the snow was a truly lovely gift.

+ Poor So. This episode started so well for him and then ended so badly. He handled the dinner really well but you could see him allowing himself to hope before his mother crushed him once again. Honestly, as a schemer and manipulator she has dealt so badly with So. Considering how much he wants her approval and love she could have had a somewhat amoral devoted servant in him if she’d played it right.

I also felt really bad for So during that last scene with Soo. His aggressiveness with Soo and the forced kiss weren’t great in reality but I loved the scene. It also wasn’t surprising considering his well-established possessiveness of her. He asked his father for her as a reward! He clearly has boundary issues, amongst all his other issues. For someone raised so… emotionally deprived his freak out makes a lot of sense to me especially with the lead up to this scene. He goes to Soo for comfort from yet another harsh rejection from his mother only to be rejected by the one person he’s allowed himself to trust and count on. She promised him in the last episode that he could trust her and she wouldn’t change – and now bam she’s suddenly (for him) doing that and breaking her promise. She was supposed to be the person who’d be there for him and he is clearly not stable enough to accept his worst fear re-affirmed (ie. he’s a monster).

+ I’m eagerly awaiting Wook catching So with Soo or for So to catch Wook with Soo and the jealousy that would then ensue but it keeps not happening. After her second vision would have been the perfect place for it with So catching Wook holding her in his arms. Missed opportunity there. I guess I just want the two sides of this love triangle to meet already. I don’t think that So even knows about Wook/Soo yet and while Wook is perhaps suspicious about So/Soo I don’t know that he understands the extent of So’s feelings for Soo either.

+ I thought Soo deciding to actively try to change events, when she had no idea exactly how things go ‘wrong’ in the first place, was silly. How could she know what to change? But her switch to deciding there was no helping after her second vision felt too quick and unsupported. Even though it clearly terrified her it bugged me that it was enough to make her back off so completely. Plus he rejecting So especially so harshly could end up doing exactly what she feared and I wish we’d seen her struggling with that.

+ What is going on with Soo’s ‘visions’? Are they actually visions of the future (somehow) or merely the little bit she does remember of this time interacting badly with a vivid imagination and her fear? Hard to tell. But I can see why it’s freaking her out.

+ Every time Soo gives Wook cryptic warnings to be careful of So I wince and want to shake her. She was scared that her helping So with the rain ceremony changed things and yet hasn’t seemed to consider how dangerous randomly warning his brothers against him could be. The downfalls there seem so obvious! Same with telling So that he’ll ruin everything and should leave.

+ I’m genuinely surprised that the Empress and Yo had that ‘murder the crown prince’ talk with So while Jung was also there. He’s never been part of their machinations and seems pretty innocent overall so it seems obvious it wouldn’t go well.

+ Poor Eun. I felt for him. I really liked the scene between him and Soo. Also I felt bad for Soon-deok a number of times but she at least knows exactly what she's getting into and seems happy with her choice. For some reason.
