I’m pretty sure this was cancelled which is too bad because it was a really cute series and I liked it. That said I’m not too upset about it and I felt like the finale worked really well as a series finale.

+ This series more than anything is about journeys with Evie’s journey being the central one. This first time I loved this show was episode four and the place it took Evie and the finale really reminded me of that which is a great thing. I love that Evie went to Reykjavik by herself, and that despite her numerous run-ins with Graham she kept it a solo journey. That short scene of her watching the Northern Lights was a wonderful moment.

In 1x12 I loved her attempts to keep everyone close by and how important it was to her so her final decision to quit so that Kareema could have her job was perfect. Evie continuing that into getting her dream job and choosing to follow that instead of moving to DC with Xavier felt like not only the right way for her storyline to go but the only way it could have gone. Xavier helped Evie to discover herself, helped her have confidence in herself, and got her out of her rut and moving forward to a future she was excited about.

It’s weird but despite really enjoying Evie/Xavier I find that I would actually be 100% okay is they never did get back together (in the event of a renewal.) Xavier has always been a bit of Evie’s Manic Pixie Dream Girl and I think the finale opens it up to the possibility that that is all he was ever meant to be. That it’s not true love. It’s someone who changed her life, who became a friend, whom she fell in love with but who in the end isn’t a part of her future (at least not as a lover.)

That said it’s left completely open where Evie’s romantic life is leading – solitary, Xavier (who still loves her), Timothy (who still maintains that they’re meant to be even as he’s moved on to a new possibility, which honestly I like), or new guy Graham (who seems perfect for her.) – and I love that.

Also liked:

+ Xavier also got to complete his journey with his theory finally being confirmed, his skills acknowledged and lauded and a dream job to save the world. It was nice.

+ I liked Evie and Xavier doing one last thing on their list together.

+ I like that Hank and Deirdre are having a baby.

+ Kareema getting teary-eyed twice in two episodes with Evie was wonderful. I also liked the closure her storyline got with her getting married and making up with her brother and taking Evie's job because she actually does care.

+ I liked Graham a lot.

+ Tim and Hank starting a band was great.

+ I loved Jesse kidnapping Xavier to take him to the NASA meeting because he believed in Xavier.

The ways the finale fell short for me:

+ the store subplot felt like something we’ve seen before and went on a bit too long.

+ I wish some of that store time had been taken out and instead we’d gotten a scene between Evie and her family. They sort of disappeared mid-season but considering Evie’s new job in another country and also the world ending (which she knows) not getting a scene with her actual family felt super weird.

+ I also really wanted an actual scene between Evie and Timothy. Now that they both know the world might end a short conversation would have been nice!
