2x21 'Resist'
I liked it.
+ I loved how this episode was pretty much entirely moved forward by women and just how many of them there were - Kara, Rhea, Lena, President Marsdin, Cat, Alex and Maggie, Lillian. It was wonderful to see. I can't think of the last time I watched an episode of something with so many women.
+ The Alex/Kara goodbye was beautiful. My favourite moment, wonderfully acted, emotional and it highlighted so perfectly why they're the strongest relationship on the show.
+ It was so great to see Cat again. I love how in stride she takes everything. I love her immediate acceptance of the president being an alien. She had so many great moments - 'seeing ET in a bathrobe' and thinking it was the pot brownies, her pep talk to Supergirl, "I'm always ready", and her knowing that James is Guardian and her amusement that he thinks he's hiding it (adorable!) Also when she thinks she's going to die we get a calm "Well it was nice knowing you." I've really missed her.
+ I loved Kara saving Cat.
+ I loved Alex leaping off the top of the DEO building trusting that Kara would be there to catch her. It was great on an Alex/Kara level and with how it was shot with Alex running and jumping backwards off it while shooting.
+ The Supergirl/Lillian team up was great and I loved that Kara foresaw a potential betrayal and had planned for it.
+ I loved Kara calling Lena her best friend.
+ Lena was great! I loved her shooting the guard and her using the tiara to break the lock on the door.
+ That first Lena/Rhea scene felt far more like Rhea was planning to marry Lena herself! "You're where you belong. Beside me, presiding over this new world... that we will create, together." ... how else am I supposed to take that? Rhea thinks Lena is a marvel and the best of her species and wants to create a new world with her by her side! And apparently them don't need sex for procreation so there's no reason why not. I want to see this version now.
+ Arranged marriage Lena/Mon-el amuses me and I wish the ceremony had been finished just for the potential future lols of them being able to say 'this is my ex-wife/husband'. There was no reason for Rhea to stop before it finished! I actually really enjoyed them together. Their shared 'ugh' reaction during the marriage ceremony, heh, and their teamwork escape was great.
+ The president flying towards the alien invaded city, and with only two fighter jets as protection, made no sense. WTF? That was so dumb and unbelievable! And because it was such a stupid thing it also ended up feeling very contrived. It would have worked just as well if she'd been out of the country and was flying back and Rhea sent a fighter or two to specifically take her out. I also found myself wondering where the hell the military was in all this.
+ There was a lot of 'ra ra women!' in a way that reminded me a lot of the pilot and as with that episode it didn't really work for me? I prefer to see women being amazing not hearing them talked about how they are. A couple times it was so cringy, mainly during Cat's monologue on the plane.
+ I did like Cat's line about not needing to measure anything because they were women. Heh.
+ I have a bad feeling that this Rhea betrayal is going to have consequences for Lena/Kara once the Supergirl truth comes out. I wasn't particularly worried about the reveal because Kara has become Lena's best friend and she has a good bond with Supergirl as well but with this betrayal now behind her Lena is going to be very sensitive to another perceived one. Why hasn't Kara told her yet?
2x22 'Nevertheless, She Persisted'
+ It was really nice to see Superman again. Kara/Clark continue to be wonderful together. I loved their hug after waking in the Fortress. "No, no it's fine. Just you owe me a new robot." HEE. I continue to love how Clark approaches Kara - he respects her so much and is so supportive and it's great. I like that when he meets Mon-el he doesn't try to intimidate or threaten him over dating Kara because he trusts Kara to make her own choices. The fight was great too.
+ I love that Cat read Kara's articles and kept track of her while out of the country. The latter half of her speech was good. I love the confirmation that she does in fact know that Kara is Supergirl. I knew it!
+ Winn's massive crush on Superman is delightful as always. I adored his little mouthed "I love you", hee. Also proving why Superman is the best I loved that he remembered Winn and was all 'of course, the genius of the DEO'.
+ I love that Lena made it so only Supergirl could turn on the weapon.
+ Cat being flirty with Clark and calling him 'Clarkbar' and Kara's disgust over it makes me smile.
+ The Kara/Mon-el goodbye was very well done. I don't ship them, though they can be very cute, but I thought it hit all the right emotional notes.
+ I feel like someone - Cat, Lena, anyone - needs to nip Lillian's 'fake news' spin on saving the world from the Daxamite's immediately or it's going to prove to be a big problem for them in the future.
+ Rhea's death didn't work for me. We see other Daxamites being beamed to the ships so someone is saving random soldiers before fleeing but doesn't take their queen (and/or prince) as well???? It makes no sense! Why wouldn't she have a comm or device to beam herself back up? Why wouldn't their first priority be to save her since they know exactly where she is and we've never seen any hint that they're anything but completely loyal.
Also if her blood is basically liquid kryptonite would the lead even work on her in the same way? I feel like that should have more cause and effect than we got. It would have made more sense for her to be unaffected but choosing to leave.
Also! I'm super annoyed because it feels like a waste of a character that could still bring some interesting storylines. I'm a little grumpy too that this show had both Dean Cain and Teri Hatcher and they never met.
+ The start of Cat's speech was meh for me. I'm not a fan of the whole women are so much stronger for these nonsense gender essentialist reasons. "We have the ability to feel the depths of our emotion"?
+ Everyone close to Kara is in a happy relationship? Uh, James, also new best friend Lena, does her adoptive mom Eliza not count, or Cat?
+ The lead weapon was pretty dumb. Humans are also affected by lead. I feel like Lena, Winn and Lillian should all have massive lead poisoning. Also saturating the entire atmosphere permanently???
+ This episode was pretty full but still no Clark/James interaction? Not even a hello? I did love Cat telling Clark to convince James to stop being a vigilante. They seriously need a episode next season where Clark shows up to hang-out with James, or maybe he's doing a story and ends up working with him again, and there is no Superman and it's a b-plot and we finally get to see them interacting and being the BFFs they're supposed to be.
+ The reveal that Zod is the enemy Clark fears most makes sense for the show but I'm sure that in his cell Lex suddenly found himself feeling offended and mad and didn't know why.
I liked it.
