3x01 'Girl of Steel'
I liked it.
+ The Kara/Alex confrontation was excellent. I really loved Alex's parting shot: "Kara Danvers is my favourite person. She's saved me more times than Supergirl ever could so just think about that while you're trying to get rid of her."
+ I love that Lena straight-out told Kara that she missed her. I love that she called Kara her best friend and that she sent back a heart to Kara's text. They are so lovely together. All their scenes were good.
+ I loved Kara turning Morgan’s words about having 'her full attention' back on him and then leaving him on the random ship.
+ "Don't cry. If you cry, I'm gonna cry, and then everybody here's gonna know that we actually can cry." - Alex. Hee. Super sweet moment between Alex and J'onn. I like that they both got choked up. I also liked him reassuring her earlier that her unrelenting seriousness was one of her best qualities.
+ I’m not a fan of J’onn’s "You have a human heart now." It just rubbed me the wrong way? I don't really like non-humans holding up being human as the best thing, the thing they strive for. Kara's Kryptonian heart aches and scars just as much as a human one would. Kryptonian's feel the entire range of "human" emotion. Kara isn't human but that's not a bad thing. I guess I want Kara to re-discover who she is in a way that acknowledges the fact that she isn't human and that's okay.
+ I love that James and Lena brought up Supergirl's contributions at the same time.
+ I'm sad that they didn't find a way to keep Cat on the show but Cat Grant as Press Secretary is pretty delightful. I really enjoyed every moment of her. They should throw in a random Cat Grant: Press Secretary moment into every episode.
3x02 'Triggers'
I enjoyed this one too.
+ I love what they did with Kara and her fears. Emotionally the show hit it out of the park. Kara being paralysed by memories of her flight from Krypton and subsequent time spent lost alone in space was perfect. It was really well done both visually (I loved the sequence where she was sent from Krypton) and emotionally (I loved the Kara/Winn scene where she explains about what she felt). This as Kara's deepest fear makes so much sense and it ties really well into what we know of her and have seen about her insecurities. I also really loved how they tied that back to Mon-el and Kara being terrified that she actually sent him to his death because he hadn't re-established contact. Melissa did a great job.
+ I loved the Kara/Alex scenes. They were wonderful. The sitting hug was perfect. I loved them cuddled together at the end watching The Wizard of Oz. I liked that it was Alex who helped Kara face her fears, talked her through it and gave her the strength to get past them.
"You got me." - Alex
"Well, I know that, silly." - Kara ♥
+ Kara and Lena were great as well. I liked Kara giving Lena a first day gift, Lena trying her best to be a supportive friend and eventually calling Kara on her unprofessionalism (deserved!) and Kara apologising and them making up. Their friendship is just really lovely. That said I do look forward to the potential issues upcoming with Kara's superhero job clashing with her CatCo job once again and how she and Lena juggle that and their friendship.
+ I loved Alex intimidating Winn into telling her the truth without having to say a single word.
+ I'm not sold on James vs Lena yet. For one thing Lena was absolutely being rude and undermining with him which feels weird. She seems generally polite and considerate to her employees so why would she start off her relationship with someone as important as James this way? Why try to sideline him? Why was she being so unreasonable in how she behaved towards him? It doesn't make sense to me. A conflict between them could absolutely work and be done believably but I don't think they entirely hit it here. That said I am far more interested in James the reporter than Guardian so I think this storyline could be interesting.
+ I like how they started the episode with everyone's morning routines and ended with their night ones. One thing I found interesting was that it started with Alex/Maggie happy together and Kara alone and then ended with Alex and Kara sadly cuddling together and no sign of Maggie. It felt like a subtle bit of foreshadowing.
+ I liked how Samantha was added onto the show. It didn't feel forced at all.
+ I'm surprised Kara didn't use the bank robberies as an excuse to Lena. That's something a reporter would be interested in. Just tell Lena that she's working on a story!
+ They really should have shot Kara's panic attack differently because the hole in the top of the elevator and the roof of CatCo is a little difficult to explain. Her taking off was probably heard throughout the building. Her bag and glasses were left in the elevator. People would notice! And then the show completely ignored it and it bugged me. That is not something James or even the DEO could simply cover up!
