3x05 'Damages'
Overall meh. So many pieces of the episode made no sense or were dumb so it didn't work for me.
+ I appreciate what the show is doing with Sam. Her mutually supportive friendships with Lena and Kara are great. Her and Kara working together to protect Lena and get to the bottom of things was also great.
+ I loved the Kara/Lena scenes.
+ Lena's moroseness over thinking she'd poisoned the kids was well done and I liked the little flash of being a Luthor when she confronted Edge as well as her quick thinking that prevented the barrels from falling into the reservoir.
+ I thought Maggie and Alex's break up was handled very well. It felt respectful.
+ I liked James saving Lena.
3x06 'Midvale
I loved it. It's actually one of my favourite episodes of the series.
+ The casting of younger Alex and Kara was phenomenal. I absolutely bought them as younger versions. Young Alex's actress especially managed to be Alex by capturing Chyler's mannerisms and speech patterns perfectly. So, so impressed. I hope they can contrive some reason to bring them back again. More flash-backs, time-travel, Alex/Kara changed to their younger selves, alternate dimension versions... it's a sci-fi show so it shouldn't be a problem.
+ "I feel at home with you." / "Always." ♥ I loved getting to see the beginning of Kara and Alex being sisters and how the bond between them first formed. Their fighting at the beginning was well done. Both of them grieving, unhappy and struggling in their own ways and lashing out at each other and how understandable it was on both parts and I loved the contrast with their sisterly bickering at the end. I love how appropriate it was that them coming together to solve a friend's murder is what caused the shift in their relationship.
+ I loved Alex keeping her calm with the sheriff, her defiance and Kara's explosive rescue.
+ I loved all the little nods/homages to Smallville - Chloe and her wall of weird, Erica Durance, teenagers solving murders in the early aughts, the telescope, getting run off a bridge.
+ The 'Noelle'/Kara scene was great. Poor Kara. Her telling 'Noelle' "I love you, mom" was so sad. I loved her tearful lament that she just wanted to help people but no one would let her.
+ Kara getting all enthusiastic about the Superman/Lex fight was cute. Between that and her "I just want to live with Clark and be super" once again made me all annoyed and sad for Kara in how they dealt with Clark and Kara pre-series.
+ I wish the show would let us see Kara being good at math/science more.
3x07 'Wake Up'
+ "Oh my god, that was horrible. That was amazing. Can we do that all the time?" Heh. Winn was a lot of fun. I loved his disappointment at not getting to see Supergirl do a Superman-style whirl into the ground.
+ Mon-el's secret keeping was ridiculous bullshit. There was no point to any of it except to drag things out and thus ended up only making him look bad. As soon as he was alone with Kara he should have told her that Imra was his wife. The way he ended up revealing it, kissing her, was terrible. Dude. But right from the beginning he should have been open with Kara - about the seven years, and that he needed to go back to the ship to save the people in the pods because she absolutely would have helped him, and about everything else I'm sure he's keeping mum about. Sigh.
