5x15 ‘Patti Sue Edwards’ [No. 68]

+ Aram’s loving smile at Liz giving a briefing was adorable

+ Red has never seemed more like a mafia godfather than he did this episode.

+ Poor Singelton. I knew it was inevitable he’d die but I didn’t think it would happen this quickly.

5x16 ‘The Capricorn Killer’ [No. 19]

I enjoyed this one and I love the direction it's taking the story.

+ Liz starting her own network (a la Red) absolutely delights me. Her letting Fulton go was a surprise but then to go that step further and use Fulton to achieve her own goals and then cultivate her for the future... it was the best.

Now I need an episode with everyone working on a case while in the background Liz and Red unknowingly compete to 'woo' over the same person into working for them. I really want Liz to continue to expand her network and for it to result in clashes with Red as her influence grows. I mean how amazing would it be to have Liz and Red nominally working together while at the same time creating competing circles of influence?

+ I am really enjoying Liz this season and I love the direction she's going in. The great thing is that none of this is out of character and that the previous four seasons have laid the groundwork for this side of her. This is the Liz who stabbed Red in the neck, the one who locked Tom up in a ship for months, who shot the Attorney General of the US.

+ There is a lot of talk about the apple not falling far from the tree but I'm wondering how far Liz has fallen from Katarina's tree? I hope that is explored more.

+ "Secret or no secret if you reach out to her, I’ll cut off your hands; if you look in her direction, I’ll cut out your eyes; and if you ever utter her name again in my presence, I’ll cut out your tongue." ♥ Dangerous protective killer Red is one of my favourite versions of him.

+ The Red/Garvey scenes were great.

+ I liked Red being completely honest, to Liz's face, that he was was still going to do everything he could to keep his secret. His blithe
"I’m going to help with the former and prevent the latter. Fifty/fifty split, like a good divorce. "
was great.

+ Aram's expression when Harold summarized the whole Red's secret/Tom's murder connection was interesting and now I find myself wondering if we're headed toward some sort of Aram/Red split/confrontation? He seemed distinctly unhappy about Red’s involvement. Then the witness is stolen literally from his arms (and he's left thinking the scared kid in his care was murdered), he feels like he failed Liz too and she's left devastated. Aram has always been in awe of Red and likes him as a person but this episode feels like it could be the start of schism between them especially once Aram discovers Red was behind the kidnapping (as he will.)

+ "Pardon my French, you can back the hell off." Aram vs Garvey was amazing. Aram doesn't know the entirety of what Garvey is capable of but he knows enough that him standing up to Garvey's threats and intimidation was ballsy and awesome. I am so pleased with him.

+ We got some lovely Harold/Liz and Aram/Liz moments. I loved Harold holding an emotional Liz after the witness pointed out Garvey and Aram's look at her. I loved how hard Aram tried to reassure Liz and the little hand touch. I liked that Liz made sure to tell Aram that she didn't blame him. Harold's pride in Liz at the end was both nice and sad considering the direction she's going in.

+ It was really nice to see Liz as a profiler and investigator in the field, and that we got to see her being competent at both (which doesn't feel like it happens often enough.) I love that she noticed the difference in the sword immediately. I liked how she put Mrs. Seever at ease and that she was the one who noticed the sword picture. I liked her using her profiling skills to figure out who Hollis was.

+ "In our sessions, you were everything I could have hoped for." Well, that feels ominous. But I am so here for Dr. Fulton as a dark mentor for Liz. I hope the show continues to explore that relationship. Also I love that Fulton has been watching Liz since Connelly.

+ This Fulton twist certainly puts a different spin on her calling Reddington a serial killer during their confrontation. I'd thought that was a weird take on him.

+ I'm annoyed that Agent Graves was killed. It was completely unnecessary. Hollis was all about righteous justice and killing serial killers so him killing a good man like Graves when he didn't have, which he probably didn't as he could have killed Sandman before Graves shot him, made no sense.
