Exit Wounds

+ I really liked that little moment of Octavia that shone through Blodreina when they thought missiles were in-coming and Bellamy refused to go to safety with her. That little catch in her voice when she called his name got me.

+ The way Kane staged his first salvo against Octavia was really clever and so him. I think he and Diyoza are actually a great pair. She's more ruthless than him but she's also thinking of the long term. I like how calculating and methodical she is. I like how smart she is.

+ I loved the tiny Miller vs Clarke showdown when she tried to enter Octavia's meeting. It reminded me of him trying to stop her entering the area in the drop-ship they were keep Lincoln.

+ I'm very grumpy we didn't get a Monty/Clarke reunion. That's bullshit show! D:< Also this season has been all about the callbacks and right there was a perfect on from season 2 just waiting to happen.

+ So I adore Clarke this season and I am enjoying her storyline but at the same time I find myself missing old Clarke too and specifically the way she was always a part of some major plot thing happening. This season has her maintaining a distance, in a way, from everything happening. In previous seasons we probably would have seen that meeting between Clarke and Spacekru where they decide to approach Octavia but here it just happens and then further conspiring happens without her. When Clarke and Bellamy meet towards the end they are on two separate pages. This is entirely on purpose of course and the point is that they have differing priorities but I guess I just want her back in the thick of things again.

+ First instance of Clarke's number one priority rearing it's head - Bellamy throwing out an opening of "That's not my sister" looking for support and brainstorming about what to do, just as they always used to do together and wanting to fall back into their usual relationship, but instead Clarke gets completely distracted by Madi and abandons him without an explanation. I felt bad for Bellamy but also for Clarke that she's in a place where she doesn't feel like she can turn to Bellamy for help with Madi.

+ I loved Spacekru sticking together all episode. I love how Bellamy's priority is so much about Spacekru - they have to save Raven and Murphy, so they're doing what they need to. Then later all three of them were 100% ready to abandon Polis and take their chances in order to back-up Echo. The fact that Bellamy was willing to so quickly fall back into 'for my people' and sacrificing others is interesting and definitely gives support to Monty's fears about returning to Earth. I liked Monty questioning Bellamy over it.

+ I really liked the Bellamy/Octavia fight scene and just as a whole I love how their relationship and Bellamy are being portrayed this season. I love that Bellamy refused to take Octavia's anger, that he didn't let her control the direction the conversation went and that he refused to back down on Echo.

That said while watching Bellamy fight competently with a sword is hot and I loved watching it, I have a hard time buying Bellamy taking Octavia down, even if she was injured and not expecting him to be so good.

+ I'm absolutely on Bellamy's side on the Echo issue. I get Octavia's anger and I don't think she should be under any obligation to forgive Echo herself or be forced to have any sort of relationship with her but at the same time Bellamy wasn't wrong - they all have done terrible things. Octavia included. Frankly nothing Echo has done is any worse than anything others have done. I mean if you look at it from her point of view she was a spy who did everything "for her people" and it's just unfortunate Skaikru weren't her people.

+ I'm happy that in the six years in space Bellamy learned to forgive himself and I like how sure in himself and grounded he feels now.

+ Echo was wonderful. I really loved her refusing to turn in the defectors. Her trying to argue Bellamy into staying in Polis to help was also good.

+ Niylah! Their reunion, and the panther statue, was lovely. I am so glad, and a little surprised, that she's still alive. But also sad, and really surprised, by how much she's bought into the Blodreina mythic cult. Her line about the sun to Clarke was really creepy. I mean, she was going to tell Octavia the truth about Madi knowing and accepting that it could lead to Madi's death! This is really not where I saw her character going and I need to know what the fuck!? How did Niylah of all people end up here?

+ I find myself wondering if Niylah went to visit Clarke out of friendship or if Octavia sent her to learn the truth about Madi, knowing that Niylah would be able to get the truth? She is so devoted I can 100% buy her being Octavia's spy and I'm kind of into it.

+ I knew Gaia would be all about a natural Natblida and yet she still surprised me. Not her willingness to immediately murder Niylah to protect Madi's secret or her taking Madi's existence as a sign but more her demeanour. We'll see more in the next episode but Gaia came off a lot less fanatical than I was expecting. I wonder if she found herself regretting what she created. Also I'm curious if there are other Flamekeepers in Wonkru?

+ The Murphy/Emori make-out reunion was not at all surprising. Of course being forced back into a situation where they're relying on only each other to survive against an enemy would remind them of why they used to work. This is their thing!

"I was part of something bigger than myself. I didn't know I needed that, but I did." This line got to me so hard. Emori has spent most of her life forcible separated from society, always on the edges and unwanted, and so she rejected it in self-protection. Her realising on the Ark how desperately she did need to be a part of something, to have a community of her own, makes me both so sad and happy for her. She has a family and place in the universe! She was accepted and loved! It makes me so happy for her. And then Murphy...

"And you punished me for it." Murphy couldn't deal with it not being just him and Emori anymore, couldn't deal with her not needing only him and having a life, and so did his Murphy thing of pushing her away. Murphy is such a disaster. I love him but honestly dude. Emori was so right to break up with him and I'm really glad she did. He was out of line and being unfair and I really hope they don't just return to status quo without him dealing with the whys of what went wrong. Emori deserves way better than that.

+ The Monty/Echo hug goodbye was great. It was also really needed to help sell the Spacekru bond. I really want another flashback for them.

+ Poor Harper once again regulated to being ignored in the background. Only this time it was even more suspect because we got the Echo/Monty goodbye. They didn't even say anything to each other! It was so weird.

+ "You're my family. Family looks out for each other." Clarke and Madi were wonderful all episode. This was a beautiful moment but honestly Clarke should have guessed that Madi would turn around and do her best to save Clarke's life in turn. 'It sucks' is really not enough to offset "I'm planning to die for you", you know? I also really loved the look they shared when Madi said "I owe her my life."

+ Poor Bellamy. First he loses Raven and Murphy, then Octavia has changed to be this entirely different and dangerous individual that he doesn't recognise, then he finds himself making the choice to sacrifice random people to protect his completely against who he wants to be now, then Echo leaves for a dangerous spy mission with the enemy. Then on top of all that Clarke - who has been so distant - tells him that she's leaving. After he just got her back. Ouch. I kind of wish we could have lingered on that more.

+ I love that as soon as Clarke realises Madi is missing she immediately assumes that Bellamy will help her look for her and he does.

+ I loved that as soon as the shooting started Clarke switched from looking for Madi to going after the sniper. It shows that not all of Clarke's focus is Madi-centred and that the compassionate person who cares about protecting other people is still there. I also loved her and Bellamy working as a partners again - having each other's back and getting ready to kick asses. It also showcased the new turn to their relationship - Clarke didn't make a move upon seeing the sniper, it was Bellamy who went in first and Clarke who followed and had his back.

+ Clarke is so alone and afraid this episode, and I just wanted to hug her. But I also love the position this episode ends on for her. On the one hand, hell no I don't trust Octavia's seeming congeniality at the end and Clarke clearly doesn't either. Clarke and Madi are now on very uncertain ground and Clarke it has to feel like it's a trap closing around her. On the other hand, her potentially best ally in protecting Madi is actually Gaia. Except while she can probably trust Gaia to protect Madi and put her safety first at the same time Gaia wants to make Madi the next Heda, something Clarke and Madi are staunchly against. I am so interested to see how Clark gets out of this trap she's in. Where does she go from here? This whole Clarke/Madi/Octavia/Gaia(/Indra) situation can go in so many directions. Personally I really hope we get a Gaia/Clarke alliance.

+ Well, Octavia wasn't wrong. There is no way Diyoza would believe that Octavia would simply let them all leave. It was a rather awful thing but it was also smart and calculating. I'm on Octavia's side on this one. Plus as a leader it also managed to solidify her leadership and put the fear of Blodreina in Wonkru, so it worked to multiple purposes.

+ I'm excited for spy Echo. I loved her quick thinking in hiding the thumb drive in the poor woman's bullet wound. I loved her determined look closing out the episode.

+ That long Kane/Echo look was interesting. Have they ever had a conversation before? Huh, I can't remember. I'm very curious to see if they're going to be allies or working against each other. I can't see Kane turning her in as a potential spy but is he going to help her?
