The Princess Will Cause a Catastrophe!?

Best Shibby Moment: I am really loving Mamoru’s interactions with the Shitennou. I like how steely he is with Kunzite.
Funniest Moment:
Tie:
1) Ikuko unexpectedly returning to Usagi’s room to find Ami sitting there – “Aiiyah! (pause) You’re awake?” Heeee. Ami and Luna’s reactions were excellent and the whole thing made me laugh. I love Ikuko-mama. She is so much fun.
2) Makoto impersonating Usagi while Luna sits under the pillow encouraging her with cue cards on how to be more like Usagi. The cue cards were the perfect touch.
Cutest Moment: The expression Rei makes after Minako tells Rei that her line reading had ‘no feeling’ and then stuck a kupi hat on her. She looked so unsure/uncomfortable, and then she sighed and rolled her eyes and you can see her deciding to just go with it. I found it adorable.
WTF of the Week: I don’t know if this is a WTF because I could just be getting it wrong but it seemed to me that Makoto didn’t know about Usagi’s disappearance until she got to Usagi’s house. In which case that would be a huge WTF (and yet another time where she’s left out). On the other hand she could have known and her expression was just about seeing Ami dressed as Usagi and Ikuko calling her Usagi. It seemed more like the former though especially on the first watch so I’m putting it here.
Best Senshi Interaction: I loved the opening scene in the Crown. I liked Rei convincing Usagi not to give up, Makoto commenting “You said something good.” causing Rei to turn her back on everyone while behind her Makoto and Ami smile.
Other
• “You can’t let that ghost from the past take people who are important to you!” – Rei. This definitely felt like Rei speaking for herself and I love how Minako is made equivalent to Mamoru for Rei.
• So Serenity tells them that she is the one who destroyed the planet. I’m not sure if we’re supposed to believe that or not but there has to be a lot more to the story. The fact that the silver crystal is inside of her, a part of her, could explain why she is more powerful now and why Metaria is getting stronger. Well, the first, I’m not sure about Metaria. Perhaps she just feeds on energy/power? But in the past Queen Serenity was the one who had the crystal. We get confirmation from Minako that Serenity did fight in the past but I don’t see her having the crystal unless the back story is much different and Queen Serenity was killed earlier. How could she have destroyed the planet?
• Beryl: Power, wealth, happiness, beauty... The source of all my desires was in you.
Mamoru: (he walks away) What a self-centered delusion. I’m just a human.
Beryl is so completely gone into her own thoughts and remembrance that she didn’t even hear what he said, or the insult towards her. Instead she just continues on with what she was saying. This scene made me realise that Beryl’s hatred for Serenity wasn’t just because she had Endymion but also because Serenity had and was everything Beryl wanted to be and wanted to have. She had beauty and wealth and power and happiness. Serenity made Beryl feel less, made her feel lower and unworthy. I actually like that (possibly) most of Beryl’s hatred for Serenity is for Serenity herself and not because of Endymion. We also saw this hatred and weakness when she was confronted by Princess Sailor Moon. Beryl’s ‘I’m your equal now, I am more then you now’ felt a bit weak as if now that she was face to face with Serenity she was no longer so sure of herself.
• “I have told you, Beryl is not the one who should use you. It should be Master Endymion.” – Zoisite. Oh, the translations... He clearly did not mean it how it sounds but it still amuses me.
• I loved Shingo’s reaction to finding Ami dressed as Usagi – staring at her, a mild “What the heck is she doing?” before leaving. Hee. I love Usagi’s family.
• When Ikuko tucked Makoto into bed all I could think was how nice a moment it must be for Makoto to be fussed over by a mom.
• “Are you the sword that protects me?” – Endymion. I always love the flashbacks. Kunzite being Endymion’s teacher makes a lot of sense and I loved how clear it was how much they cared for each other. Endymion seemed to have a lot of respect for Kunzite as well.
• “I lost everything.” – Kunzite. I find myself remarkably unmoved by him. I’m pretty sure that everyone lost everything. He is not a unique snowflake in this case. So I think because I don’t feel for him here his quest for revenge falls flat for me. He tells Mamoru “I will eliminate everyone involved in that. This is of my own will.” but he’s lashing out at everyone. The other Shitennou seem to be at the centre of what he lost but you don’t see him taking the opportunity of them all being alive again to treasure them. Instead he’s confrontational and antagonistic and even attacks them. Endymion was as important if not more but Kunzite’s decided that he is to blame despite not actually knowing what happened.
• I’m glad that Nephrite is alive, and very glad that he’s reacting to what happened by being pissed off. I would have thought he’d turn into a nephrite though so I’m confused about why he became a human instead. I hope this means that we can get him working together with the senshi, especially Mercury. I loved how we discovered he was alive – when Ami ran past him.
• Mercury: Usagi-chan.
Mars: No. It’s the princess.
They are really making it explicit that Usagi and Serenity are very much not the same people. I still don’t know how I feel about that.
• I hate when they have Venus shown as leader by having her tell the senshi to do something completely obvious. It doesn’t make her seem more like a leader. I mean when the youma showed up of course the senshi were going to transform, they didn’t need to be ordered to. It would have worked better if she had sensed them coming or if after Mars sensed something she had ordered them to transform and then have the youma appeared.
