Kubo and the Two Strings
Dec. 18th, 2018 09:32 pmI really enjoyed it. The story was great and I liked the stop-motion animation. It was a lot funnier than I was expecting.
+ I loved that Kubo defeated his grandfather not with his father's sword and armour but with his mother's shamisen and the magic he inherited from her. I love that Kubo was a storyteller and that was his strength. Also that he used his mother's hair, his father's bowstring and his own hair to string his shamisen.
+ I love that Raiden wasn't defeated with violence and that when he ended up in front of everyone memory-less and confused the villagers and Kubo reacted with compassion. That Kubo chose to forgive this version of Raiden of his past and accept him as his grandfather.
+ I honestly did not get that Monkey was Sariatu until her battle with her sister which I feel silly about. I mean she's played by the same actress. I did consider that Beetle was Hanzo but then dismissed it from my mind until the Sariatu 'reveal'.
+ Monkey was a delight. We don't get to see a lot of Sariatu when she was human but based on her time as Monkey she was wonderful.
+ Beetle was very fun and had a lot of the overt comedic moments. "Look I have stuff. I mean, either I'm a samurai or a really bad hoarder." LOL.
+ I enjoyed Monkey and Beetle a lot. They were great. I'd have loved to see a film about their story.
"I told him, 'You must die'." - Sariatu
"Yeah, that's so you." - Beetle
I loved this because even then, when they didn't know, he said it so fondly and appreciatively.
+ Honestly a little surprised that both Sariatu and Hanzo died. Also sad that they were together the entire journey but didn't even know.
+ Kameyo was great and I really loved her place in the story. I also appreciate that she's a woman since she easily could have been an old man. That Sariatu had sisters instead of brothers was great too. Women definitely felt like 50% of this universe.
