Haven 2x10 Review

I loved this episode. It was brilliant. I loved everything about it.
• I really like the shades of grey this episode gave to Audrey. At the beginning when she nixed the idea of bringing in outside help it made me go ‘wait’ because it didn’t at the time seem so connected to the troubles. It was a serial killer and a missing kid and that’s the sort of thing you definitely bring not only the rest of the local police into but maybe also the state police. I love the sense of Audrey and Nathan (and Duke) together against the world – “From now on Nathan, it’s just you and me” was excellent – but it did give me pause. And then there was the end... which I’ll get to.
- What Audrey and Nathan need to do, and unfortunately I don’t know that they understand it yet, is expand their allies not circle the wagons (so to speak). They need to get people on their side, they need more people they can trust and call on. They need to create a sense of community in a way. By closing themselves off all they’re doing is making Reverend’s job easier.
• I loved the scene of Nathan running into Duke and the Reverend. I loved Nathan turning his back on Duke even though Duke had a gun pointed at him – because he trusts Duke and he knew Duke wouldn’t shoot him. I loved Audrey showing up somewhat randomly considering they’d split up and having Nathan’s back because that is what she does. And Audrey’s gun is pointed at the Reverend of course.
• “Play nice, boys. I can take out two of you before anybody gets off a shot.” I love the first line so much. Was the second supposed to be aimed at them or was it more of a warning aimed at the Reverend and his guys? Both? Her telling the guys to chill out already while at the same time warning the Reverend’s people not to even think about trouble because she would take them out?
• I love that Nathan immediately starts defending Duke – “Bluffing, maybe. Hopefully.”
• I love the shots of the forest. So pretty.
• I love the Duke/Audrey scene. I love him coming over to try and make nice with her. I love how emotional she is – she is so hurt by his apparent betrayal that she can’t think logically. And then he gets angry and tries to get through to her and make her understand him. He just wants her to trust him and understand him!
- “Damn it Audrey I came over here to tell you that you can trust me.” The first time I watched I heard it as ‘I can’t believe that I have to tell you that you can trust me’. I don’t know which I prefer.
- “Audrey, it’s me.”
- I like the bit about Audrey and Duke connecting over a shared desire to know the truth about their past. And that Audrey continues to have knowledge that she doesn’t remember getting.
- “You know, with you Audrey, there’s nothing I don’t believe.” – Duke. ♥
• “Duke’s gonna get himself killed.” LOL. Nathan goes into the forest because Duke went and then Audrey follows her boys. ♥ So much love.
• The meeting in the forest made it look like we’d be getting Audrey vs Reverend which was something I was all for.
• “I’m going to be the prince.” – Sophie. ♥
- “I can’t eat you, you’re going to save me.” – Sophie. I kind of love Sophie a lot. And Dwight with Sophie was lovely.
- I thought Dwight was going to tell Sophie to eat his caught foot but either way it appears that he has some suicidal tendencies. I hope we get to learn more about him. I’m very curious about his hallucination/vision of his dead daughter Lizzie. Does that happen a lot? Was she actually a ghost?
• Audrey killed the Reverend! Holy crap! Wow, I was not expecting that. Actually when we saw him shot I thought it might be Duke (giving up his chance at knowledge to save the girl) but I love that it was Audrey.
- Earlier in the episode Audrey tells Duke “Some doors you kick open you can never close again” and I think killing the Rev is going to prove to be one of them.
• I like the effect of the Wendigo’s moving quickly.
• I loved Nathan covering for Audrey.
• I love Dwight basically adopting the Benton sisters (or at least that’s what I’m assuming). That is so awesome.
• I really want more about the Benton sister. Frankie seems pretty cool, Amelia is a good person and really just a scared teenager, and Sophie is wonderful. I love them. They isolated themselves so they wouldn't hurt people, and eat animals even when what they really crave is people. How horrifying would that be? To wake up after you're parents death and realise that people smell delicious and you want nothing more than to eat them? I find them kind of fascinating. I want stories about their lives now.
• I really like that when Vince tried to put Nathan off on what was going to happen with the Benton sisters he didn’t accept it. He wants to know everything now.
• “I don’t know.” Yeah, I don’t believe Duke. He tries to play tough and unaffected and as if he’s this bad guy but he’s really not. He would never have let the Rev kill the girl.
• “Well, you need to figure that out, Duke. Because while you're looking for answers, the rest of us? We're fighting a war. I did what I had to do.” – Audrey. ♥ That was pretty awesome. She has really accepted wholeheartedly her place as the warrior protector of the Toubled hasn't she? That's who she is now - when she doesn't know anything else true about herself that is what she's chosen.
- I can’t believe that Audrey bought what Duke was saying. I mean we got to see earlier in the episode that she isn’t sure of Duke, that when it comes to him he can hurt her into not thinking things through but still. Clearly he wouldn’t!
• I love how Duke, Audrey and Nathan are wearing basically matching outfits (I only noticed in the final scene.) Duke in a light blue shirt, Audrey in a medium blue/teal and Nathan in a dark blue.
