Doctor Who 6x10 Review

• The set up for everything did make them look a bit dim. Why would Amy not ask which button to push since there were two? And who picks red over green? Why would she go into the room calling for them when she could clearly see that they weren’t in there? I guess everyone has bad days.
• “Good question, bit sinister. What’s the answer to not get us killed?” - Rory Heee.
• I’m annoyed that they introduced a plague that could kill a Time Lord, no regeneration possible, because it makes it the second time this season they’ve used that (well, poison in 2x08). It feels lazy. They could have made the plague what was killing the Doctor in 2x08.
• “Hello, handsome man!” LOL and of course he’s talking about himself. I loved Rory’s reaction.
• The robots are neat. Love the ‘secondary delivery system’ which looked very creepy.
• This was a very visually pretty episode. I loved the garden.
• Why would they have everyone in their own time stream? Wouldn’t it be better for them to have company?
• Amy’s older make-up is very good.
• I don’t really buy Amy building a sonic screwdriver. She’s smart and she clearly taught herself a lot during her decades of isolation but her actually building a sonic screwdriver? I just don’t buy it. I was amused by her and the Doctor’s back and forth about whether it was a sonic ‘screwdriver’ or a sonic ‘probe’.
• Aw, she named her pet robot ‘Rory’. Many quietly sad moments this ep – her thinking about putting lipstick on, her first laughter since her arrival, her sign on the door faded away...
• “This is your fault! ... Then I do not want to travel with you!” – Rory. He was angry and lashing out but this plus the rest of the episode has me really thinking that Amy and Rory will be leaving the TARDIS at the end of the season. I just hope if they do it will be on good terms with the Doctor because this year really hasn’t been good to them.
• The difference between Amy waiting 36 years and Rory waiting 2000 for her – Rory chose it while Amy lived for decades thinking she was abandoned. That’s a lot of time for bitterness and anger and grief to build up. Plus she was alone, and Rory could (and probably did) interact with other people.
• “Sometimes knowing your own future is what enables you to change it. Especially if you’re bloody-minded, contradictory and completely unpredictable.” So, the Doctor than?
• I liked Amy 1 and Amy 2 meeting. I was as amused by them arguing over which was Amy 1 as the Doctor. Also by Rory’s attempted to make peace between them – “Amy you always said cooking Christmas dinner that you wished there was two of you.” LOL.
• “I’m not alone. I’ve got my wives.” – Rory. Heh.
• Amy taking out the robots with her sword and staff, clearing the way for Rory and her younger self and covering their backs was excellent. I liked how it was shot and she was amazing.
• Oh, Doctor. He knew. He always knew he couldn't save them both. He can be so wonderful and amazing but he can also be so scary and that can be easy to put aside at times. But this is the man who sacrificed his entire species for the greater good.
• Rory accusing the Doctor “you’re turning me into you” reminded me of Turn Left and of all his past companions. I don't think this necessarily a bad thing - he makes his Companion's stronger and better (in that he helps them develop their own potential) - but I can definitely see why Rory would see this as a negative.
• Amy and Rory on either side of the door – so sad. Oh, Amy. I like for his character that Rory wasn’t willing to make the Doctor’s choice and I love that in the end it was Amy’s choice to sacrifice herself not something decided for her. “I’m giving you my days.” It’s something completely different to re-write time when the person you are erasing is a person you can see, and hear and who doesn’t want to be erased however bad her life was. Poor, tough and damaged Amy.
