The Vampire Diaries 3x02 Review

• Elena pretty much completely ignoring Andi’s murder (and Stefan being her murderer) makes me sigh a lot. Her morality has changed so much over the seasons. At this point it is entirely about the people she loves (well, it was that way last season as well) and she has become so inured to death and violence now that it doesn’t really seem to make an impression on her unless it's someone she loves. I can actually understand that. I mean it’s only been a couple months since her aunt and birth parents were all murdered (two in front of her, one 'for' her). Back when Vicki died she called out Damon on the fact that people died around him and it mattered. A season later she was more worried about Caroline and Rose then the people they killed and now she’s concentrated fully on Stefan and ignoring the people he’s killing including a person she did know. Not that this changes my love for her but I really hope that the show addresses this.
• “Because I’m not the kind of person who checks out.” – Elena. Bitchy! I love when Elena gets snarky and bitchy.
• I really felt for Carol. I loved her first scene with Tyler. Her fear that Tyler was a vampire was actually something I hadn’t considered. I really liked how she couldn’t kill Caroline even though she thought Caroline was a monster because she’d known Caroline since she was a baby. I love that when confronted with the truth about her son she immediately accepted him. Actually not only that but her love for him also let her overcame her hatred of vampires, or at least in the case of Caroline. I hope we get more of their relationship because I am loving how much love and loyalty and respect there is between them.
• I wonder why Carol chose to contact Bill instead of Liz?
• "As Caroline likes to remind me, Stefan's in this mess because I bit Damon. I figure I owe you one." – Tyler. Huh. I find that interesting. We sadly haven’t gotten much from Caroline on Stefan so it’s nice to know that he is still in her thoughts. I wonder what proceeds Caroline reminding him of this fact?
• I liked Tyler helping Elena to finding the werewolf pack. It makes him feel like more of a part of the Elena made-family.
• “Do you, ah, is this like the kind of thing you need another person for?” – Matt. I’m glad that he’s starting to remember that Tyler is his friend.
• I love that the Sheriff is now putting vervain into the coffee at the Mystic Grill.
• "Why don’t you save it for future generations of stubborn, relentless baby Gilberts." – Alaric. Heh.
• I love that Elena gave Alaric the ring. That said, I didn't hear Elena saying 'here Ric keep it forever'. He could keep it until she or Jeremy has a child old enough to wear it and then give it up.
• “I’d feel bad if I got you killed before happy hour.” – Elena. LOL. I kind of want a scene between Alaric, Damon and Carol at the bar. Because it would be really funny.
• “It’s not difficult to be loyal when you’re on the winning team.” – Klaus. I am not buying this line of reasoning. It doesn’t really make all that much sense to me. I mean I could see people staying with him temporarily out of fear but commanding their loyalty? I’m very doubtful. I really doubt for instance that the female werewolf he tried to turn would ever have been loyal. (Actually I could see her playing inside mole to take him down.)
• "Thanks for the tip, brother." I found Damon calling Alaric this very weird. And kind of wrong. I love their friendship but no.
• I love Alaric/Elena/Damon. The road trip was great and Elena/Damon bickering with Alaric rolling his eyes in the background was excellent. I want more of that. “Right now I think you’re both being idiots.” and “What are you guys twelve?” Hee.
• Elena was not making the best decisions in this episode. Her choosing to go to the mountains to look for werewolves on the night of a full moon instead of waiting a day, for example, was really stupid. There was no reason for her to rush. In fact it would have worked much better to go the day after the full moon when all the werewolves would be tired. There was also her reluctance to leave Damon out there with the hybrid. What exactly did Elena think she could do to help him?
• Stefan really needs to work on his lying skills and poker face because he is very bad at both. I’m really surprised that Klaus didn’t figure out the truth by Stefan’s so very obvious expression.
• So perhaps Jeremy is a ghost magnet now because he died and came back and now the ghosts want him to help them return as well?
• Hmm, Anna vs Vicki. I’m choosing Anna’s side here and not trusting Vicki, not because I love Anna more, but because Vicki’s assertion that she could be brought back to life is just not going to go anywhere good.
• "I changed my mind, because even in his darkest place, my brother still can't let me die. So, I figure I owe him the same in return. I'll help you bring him back." – Damon.
• So Damon is going to make a play for Elena even as he helps her to get Stefan back? I actually really liked that final scene between them.
• It’s interesting that of all the characters it’s Alaric who seems to know the most about the Elena/Damon relationship. He's the one who always sees these little moments between them.
"Know what you're doing there?"
"No. I don't."
• I was really hoping for a Liz vs Carol showdown but based on Carol’s actions I’m guessing that won’t be happening. Or at least not over their kids. Instead I’m now hoping for a Liz (& Carol) vs Bill showdown. Carol had better call Liz immediately.
• Speaking of, where the hell is Liz? And for that matter Bonnie being MIA is annoying me as well. I would be far more interested in Bonnie being involved in the Jeremy ghost situation than Matt. And I really want Carol/Tyler/Liz/Caroline and Liz/Damon scenes.
• Bill seems far too enthusiastic about killing his vampire daughter. I mean he could have had an off screen breakdown about it when Carol told him but everything we've see on screen shows someone with seemingly no regret or angst over what he’s about to do. I’m finding him creepy. I'm hoping he goes the way of HRG on Heroes with whom this character is sharing a remarkable number of similarities with.
