Believe Me! I Definitely Won’t Destroy the Planet!.
Much of this act was a clip show so I decided not to do an Awards for it. Instead just a couple of points:
- I find myself very confused about what exactly happened. At first I wondered if it was Beryl telling Endymion and it would prove false but it seems not. That does leave a lot of questions though they can be separated into two categories: what we were told previously happened on this show, and what we know about Serenity and her power.
1) We were told that Earth had its own civil war, there were some sort of ‘calamities’, and Metaria and Beryl took over. Something happened in the Moon Temple that destroyed the Earth and then lead to the destruction of the Moon. This is not what seemed to have happened. First, by Moon Temple Minako apparently meant the moon palace or perhaps a temple on the moon, and not a temple on the Earth dedicated to the Moon as I had assumed. But okay, that’s not a big issue. What is an issue is the fact that the Moon was touched by Serenity’s power first, and then the Earth. I wondered if this was perhaps not the destruction everyone talks about but rather the calamities but no. For one thing Serenity and Endymion are dead afterwards so it immediately doesn’t work. But what happened to the Earth attacking the Moon? Were both kingdom’s several damages but not destroyed? Then the Earth deciding it was an attack (understandable), or otherwise lead by Beryl, decide to attack the Moon kingdom and the war between them finished everyone off?
2) What is going on with Serenity’s power in this verse?! She has seemed more powerful than the Serenity’s of the other canons but I figured it was just in the way that TPTB used her power. After all Serenity was always the most powerful Senshi in the end. Plus I just figured that it was all or mostly the Silver Crystal which appears to have become a part of her in this life except that she exhibited the same power, only greater, in the past. I’m assuming that the Silver Crystal wasn’t a part of Serenity then because I can’t figure any reason it would be? But then that leaves Serenity as having this awesome inner power that she can’t control which continues to confuse me. Adding to it all are two points: 1) “The Princess’ power and Mataria’s power are one and the same.” Um, what? Since when? And, seriously, what? That has me equally intrigued and confused. 2) The whole scene with Serenity destroying the Moon Kingdom/Earth very much made me think of Saturn and her power. It kind of made me feel as if her power was co-opted by TPTB for Serenity. (On a plus I’m sure Sailor Saturn will be pleased about not being the only world destroying Senshi now. Next time she does destroy a planet or has to and gets flack for it she can always point at Serenity for having done it first. They can have meetings, and a club!)
• I love that Princess Sailor Moon can teleport. It is very cool. I hope that Sailor Moon gets to keep that power.
• “To protect the princess, and to prevent the tragedy from the previous life.” I feel horribly sorry for the Senshi and cats but especially for Venus. Protecting Serenity is their entire purpose, not to mention that they are completely devoted to Usagi (and I’m sure in the past to Serenity). To learn that she is the biggest danger... Ow. Poor Venus who has made protecting the princess and preventing the Earth from being destroyed again her final missions in life, now finds them at odds. What is she going to do now? After all it’s not just Endymion being in Serenity’s life that is the problem – it’s all about Serenity, and her power and her lack of control.
• I wish that Usagi had reacted more on the fact that she destroyed both kingdoms and what that means (what with killing all her loved ones and everyone else) and less with it being all about Endymion/Mamoru. Sigh. But then I guess the former is just too big. It makes sense for her to concentrate on the immediate, smaller and more personal part of the whole revelation. But then she also could have concentrated on the fact that it was her loss of control that did it.
• “No... we’re evenly matched.” I am continuing to love the Mamoru/Shitennou interactions. They’re great. I do find myself wondering, now that we have Serenity wandering around as a separate person, if we’re not going to be seeing Endymion as separate from Mamoru?
