1x21 ‘Funk’
This was an okay episode but I don’t really feel much about it.
• There were two things I loved.
- First, we got another really wonderful Quinn/Mercedes scene and this is how I wished they’d do every relationship. They’ve slowly built these two up into an actually friendship that started in a believable place and thus made it believable for Mercedes to ask Quinn to move in and for Quinn to agree to. I would have liked more scenes between them – even just more background stuff like Mercedes and Quinn being the ones to accompany Rachel to spy on Vocal Adrenaline – but it has been built up enough that I believed that moment. And I loved it. Their friendship makes me happy. But I will not stop wanting Rachel to get a girlfriend of her own.
- Second, I loved the Gleeker’s anger over what VA did to Rachel but I especially loved Puck’s anger. He wasn’t just angry, he was completely pissed off. He wanted to mess up Jesse’s face because Jesse humiliated Rachel and broke her heart and not just because Rachel is one of them which was the main reason for everyone else’s anger. As Kurt said, "Rachel is one of us -- we're the only ones who get to humiliate her!" It may be delusional shipper of me but Puck’s rage about it, while being a bit about glee protectiveness and his own anger/violence issues, felt too much, and too personal. He was way angrier than Finn seemed (though this may just be an actor issue.) I’m choosing to take this as yet another little sign that Puck still has feelings for Rachel.
• I’m sad that Jesse/Rachel ended this way even though I knew it would (well, I didn’t see the egg thing coming) because I really do like them now. Plus I think he actually does like her.
• I wonder what Shelby thinks about what they did to Rachel? I mean they all have to know she’s their coach’s daughter so wouldn’t they think better of doing what they did and target a different Glee member?
• I feel like I should say something about the whole Will/Sue debacle but I don’t really have anything to say. I do think Will got off lucky though.
• Sadly none of the music really worked for me.
1x22 ‘Journey’
This was a good episode though it didn’t really feel like a finale.
• New Directions performance for Regional’s was good and I enjoyed it but I really wish that the vocals had been more evenly split. The second and third song had a couple of the others singing but for the most part it was all Rachel and Finn, and while I think Rachel’s voice is amazing I do really prefer when big group songs like this was, or should have been, are actually group songs and not everyone being backup vocals for Rachel (and Finn). I am glad they lost because I thought Vocal Adrenaline’s routine was better, it was also much better choreographed, and it would have been a bit much for them to win.
• I liked Sue sticking up for them and making it so that Glee club could continue, even though I knew it was coming as soon as the other judges turned on her.
• The kids song to Will ‘To, Sir, With Love’ was wonderful and moving though the bit right before about how he was glee club was a bit much and had me rolling my eyes.
• I loved the little character interactions during the Will/Puck scene and my favourite was Quinn and Mercedes smilingly holding hands across Kurt and then him smiling and holding their hands in his. Aw.
• I wonder if Quinn is going to continue to live with Mercedes now that she’s had her baby or is she moving back in with her mom? I’m hoping for the former. I loved Quinn asking for Mercedes to come into the delivery room with her.
• The whole situation with Shelby and Rachel is still irritating me. Shelby tells her in this episode that “I missed out on my chance with you.” which yes, she missed Rachel’s childhood but, for gods’ sakes, Rachel is right there! They have a chance to have a relationship and be mother and daughter now. *hands*
• I’m amused that Quinn and Puck’s daughter is going to be Rachel’s sister.
• It appears that we’re going to be entering the next season with Rachel/Finn and Quinn/Puck as couples, or so I assume with the ‘I love yous’ that were said and the coupley behaviour. I am sad that Rachel and Jesse never made up. Sigh.
