True Blood 3x05 Review

Not bad. My like/dislike/whatever feelings for this episode mostly mirror the breakdown of the last episode.
• I liked all the Sookie stuff though it felt like there was less happening with her than usual. This episode was really showing why I do like the character.
- I liked her telling off Debbie.
- I liked her interactions with Alcide and the strength in her as shown in these quotes: “I got to do what I got to do.” (so unapologetic about being in his head) and “Then I got to dig it out of your head and I really don’t like to do that.” both of which show how she is like vampires, how pragmatic she is and willing to do what it takes to do whats needed. “Work with me Alcide. It gets easier.” – which is actually kind of badass. I love her.
- I thought her line to Bill about leaving – “I will but tell me what I’m running from.” – was both understandable and reasonable.
- And I love so very much the return of her mysterious... hand power. It seems to be even more powerful against werewolves then against maenads. The return plus Russell being all interested in it makes me really excited that we’re actually going to get some forward movement on who she is. Or at the least more use of her powers.
• Alcide was mainly just there with Sookie this episode but I liked his arms when he was holding Debbie back (very nice) and I liked his “I trust you.” to Sookie though it could turn out good or bad for him. It did feel like Coot got the best of him a bit quickly.
• Poor, poor Tara. On the plus it appears that Sookie will be joining her soon. On the minus... pretty much this entire episode (and most of the previous two seasons... and her whole life really. Sigh.) I love that Tara chewed her way out of her restraints and would have escaped if it wasn’t for the damn werewolves.
Her situation is worse in my opinion then what Lafayette suffered last season. Yeah, okay, he was chained in a basement for weeks. I still find what’s happening with Tara more horrifying. I think it’s because her situation is so much more personal. Also creepy. I mean Eric et al just didn’t care about Lafayette either way whereas Franklin is clearly so completely crazy. He is that insane, obsessive, possessive stalker who you don’t know from one moment to the next how he’s going to act. It's just scarier. But at the same time it’s almost kind of fascinating to watch to see what he’s going to do next.
• “I’ll never let them touch you. There’s only you. They don’t exist.” – Franklin. When he told her this I got a chill. I have a feeling he’s going to be killing someone before this season is done. I wonder if he’s going to see Sookie a threat to him?
• I liked getting more Eric background and finally an explanation for Eric’s hatred and obsession with the Nazi werewolves. I can’t wait to see how Eric’s going to react with this new knowledge. I loved Eric’s reaction to learning that Bill was working for Russell now and how his very first thought was about Sookie and how with Bill’s new allegiance Sookie was no longer ‘his’. His expression when Bill confirmed it – I loved it.
• I love Talbot’s fascination and attraction to Eric. I would totally be fine with some Eric/Talbot making out and Eric using Talbot to get revenge on Russell.
• Bill refusing to help Tara is definitely not going to endear him to her any more. I was wondering with Eric there if he would help her in any way but then they didn’t even interact. Actually, have they ever interacted before? I can’t remember one time which seems kind of weird considering how connected he is to both Sookie and Lafayette. Does he even know who she is?
• Lafayette's storyline was nice. It’s nice that he at least appears to have good things coming. When he didn’t realise at first that Jesus was there to see him, and it took so long for him to realise it, I felt so sorry for him. He’s so unused to good things in his life that when it’s looking him in the face he doesn’t even see it. His almost bashful flirting back made me go aww. I like the Lafayette/Jesus and the thing I think I like most is how into Lafayette Jesus is. His “I don’t think that’s possible.” when Lafayette said he couldn’t let Jesus make him look back made me do this little eeee and hand flap combination. I wonder if Lafayette has ever in his life just had a boyfriend?
• Jason continues to be boring and I cannot watch his cop scenes. I did watch his scenes with Crystal which were for the most part inoffensive but kind of whatever at this point.
• Sam is also mainly boring. I don’t care about his family and the issues therein at all. But in this episode on the plus: the Sam/Terry scene was lovely and he really is a good friend. Just how many properties does he own though?
• “It’s normal and it’s happening to me.” – Terry. Oh, Terry. He’s so great.
• I love Jessica so it’d be nice for her to get more of a storyline but at the same time considering all the crap everyone else is dealing with right now it’s probably best she stay out of it. My appreciation of Hoyt and thus Hoyt/Jessica has gone down a lot since they first got together and I don’t really like them anymore. Him trying to make her jealous is such a cliché and yet I found myself very irritated at him.
• I loved Tommy flattering Jessica – “He’s little league. You’re smoking hot vampire. You’re the majors. ... Yeah. And a hell ya too.” – it made me aww and I loved her shy pleased reaction to it.
• So was Russell’s thoughts on Bill’s mission – that he was investigating Sookie to learn the source of her telepathy/powers – true?
