It was great! I enjoyed this episode so much more than the previous one.
+ That entire final Red/Liz scene was amazing. I loved it. "I love you. That's what I wanted to say. That's what I wanted you to hear." ♥
- Liz giving up her chance for answers, choosing Red over them - yesss. I love that she put his needs first, that the most important thing for her was that he knew the truth about her feelings.
- I can't remember if it's been said in so many words but Liz is the forgiveness that Red's been searching for and never thought he deserved, and yet by telling him that she loved him that's exactly what she gave him. I love how utterly overwhelmed and stunned Red is by her saying that.
- "You're going to be phenomenally wealthy." I found this interesting because Liz has never been interested in money and yet this is the first thing he says. Red has always wanted to take care of Liz so I guess he finds some satisfaction that at least in this way he's made her life easier?
- "My mother understood the problems of the human heart in conflict with itself." That's basically Liz in a nutshell (and actually Red too). Liz from even very early in season one has been torn by the fact that she genuinely likes Red and enjoys being around him while also finding him and his secrets infuriating, his methods occasionally appalling, and the affect he's had on her life enraging. She's been in a constant state of conflict from the beginning. I wonder if this episode and event might signal her starting to resolve that conflict?
- "All those years spent worrying about you, fancying myself your guardian angel — she would have taken one look at you and known you’d be fine." Really liked this. Liked Red categorising himself as her 'guardian angel'. Love that he's at peace because he knows that she's surrounded by people who love her and who will protect her, and always be there for her.
+ I love how Red's doesn't look away from Liz, doesn't even blink. It makes me think about how Red told her that she is his ray of light, his way home, and in the end that is what he's looking at. Once he almost died with a gun to his head and his last thought and last word was 'Lizzie'. This time he's going to death actually looking at her and I think that's exactly how he'd want to die.
+ It would certainly be very Reddington for him to go into a monologue as his 'last words' but I think this time Red will stay silent.
+ I love that shot of Red's reflection between Dembe and Liz.
+ LOVE, love, love the Task Force showing up on the plane, refusing to let Liz go alone, not caring about the dangers.
"Us. Breaking the law. Me and Dembe. We're his family." - Liz
"And we're yours." - Samar
♥♥ This whole scene, but that exchange in particular, made me so happy.
+ It was interesting to see Liz claim herself as Red's family. She knows that they aren't related but has finally reached a point where she doesn't need that as a crutch in order to ignore what has been obvious for years - she loves Red.
+ I do wish we'd gotten more little moments of bonding and familiarity between the characters over the years. Especially Samar and Liz who I think have fallen a bit to the wayside.
+ "The questions, the searching for answers, the mystery... in the end Liz, he's just a man who loves you very much." - Ressler. Aww, loved this too.
+ I really loved that short interaction between Ressler and Aram when Liz left - Aram immediately starting to follow her because "she shouldn't be alone" and Ressler stopping him even though he agrees because "it looks like that's what she wants", and Aram accepting that. It says so much about all their relationships in a very short little exchange.
+ This was a great Harold/Red episode. "You are the best, Harold — as an agent, and a person, and a friend." Awww! And then Harold really proves it by going above and beyond - blackmailing the president of the united states! - to try and save his life. He was so great. Also Pannabaker calling Red his "sun, moon, and stars" was certainly something.
+ I was rather annoyed about how little Dembe was involved in the episode considering how very important what was happening was to him. Red's death affects him more than anyone except for maybe Liz. We didn't even get to see a last moment between him and Red! The hell? At the very least we should have had Dembe with Red when Liz arrived, and him choosing to leave for Liz to have her final minutes with him, with the implication there that Dembe has been Red for the previous few hours. I'm very annoyed by this!
+ I loved Liz reaching out to grasp Dembe's hand and him squeezing hers between both of his but was super annoyed when they let go. No! They should have continued to hold hands for the entire time!
+ My guess for the way Red is going to get out of this is that the executioner with the lethal dose is actually going to be working for him/Dembe/someone else and will instead inject him with something else that mimics death. Faking his death at this junction could only be good for his well being. Though I will say that based on his reactions this episode and how all his scenes were about him coming to terms with his death I'm not certain he will be saved by his own scheme. Either he thinks there is a serious possibility it won't work or it's someone else.
