Roswell, New Mexico
Mar. 25th, 2019 09:03 pmOne negative for the series is the fact that Tess won't be on this show at all. She was apparently a creation of the previous show and not in the books, and thus this show has no rights to her. I am super bummed about this since Tess was my favourite.
Episode 2
+ There was talk about co-dependence between the aliens but at the same time the second episode emphasised the distance between the three. I want the co-dependence! I want the relationship between the three of them to take precedence. I do like the conflict. I loved Michael and Isobel showing up to save Max.
+ "I never look away. Not really." Hmmm, nice.
Episode 3
+ I liked Isobel saying “our brother” to Michael about Max. I love Isobel’s co-dependence with Max I just wish that Max returned it more instead of being 100% into Liz. That said I liked Max telling Noah about The Land Before Time and that Isobel might be having a bad night.
+ I like that Michael was paying close enough attention that he knew Isobel was going to get sick, and that even Max noticed and came to check on her.
+ I liked that little exchange between Noah/Michael/Isobel. I like how accepting he is Michael (and Max) in their life and Isobel's co-dependence with them. The easy report he had with Michael is something I'd like to see more of.
+ I wonder why Isobel didn’t psychically realise that something was wrong with Max since she did in the first episode?
+ Kyle is super great. I love that he used the excuse of ‘love triangle’ to explain why he broke into his mother’s office, lol.
+ Is the show going in a Rosa/Isobel route? I’d be down for that. Isobel as Rosa secret girlfriend would be a great twist. I’d love if all the aliens were naturally bisexual.
+ The casting of Liz and Rosa as sisters really is amazing. I absolutely buy them as sisters.
+ Michael’s pining over Alex is angstily great but Alex himself is leaving me a little meh.
Episode 4
+ I love Isobel/Michael. Everything about them is excellent. His reaction when her collapsed was great as was him taking care of her. Their closeness is great. Want more. I also enjoyed the Isobel/Michael/Max scenes.
+ I thought both the Michael/Maria and Isobel/Maria scenes were filled with some great tension. I could ship any combination.
+ Looks like Isobel wasn’t Rosa’s secret girlfriend which is disappointing.
+ Kyle continues to be the best. He’s my favourite though I think Michael’s a close second. He is such a genuinely kind and sincere and compassionate person, who tries to do the right thing. I like his relationship with Liz.
+ The Kyle/Max scenes were good and their final scene was excellent.
+ Honestly, Max is the weak link for me. The actor is actually a pretty good and is genuinely great at the angst and the heartbroken face journeys whenever Liz makes him sad (which is a lot) and that does work for me, and yet he’s still the most meh to me somehow? I think it's actually down to Max/Liz and that so far he is so much about her. It's weird because devotion is absolutely one of my favourite things and yet, even though I like this version of Liz and Liz/Max more than the last series, it's not working for me. Instead of drawing me into the pairing (which is fine) it's kind of repelling me. I want more attention paid to Max's other relationships. I want him to step back from his Liz obsession and let things breathe.
+ I’m not actively shipping anything but there are pairings I like – Isobel/Michael, Isobel/Max/Michael, Isobel/Maria, Michael/Maria, Max/Kyle, Kyle/Liz.
