The Big Bang Theory Thoughts
May. 26th, 2011 02:43 pm4x22 ‘The Wildebeest Implementation’
- This episode makes it clear, if it’s been missed before, that Amy was desperately lonely and completely isolated during high school. She missed everything about that time including friends and the concept of a BFF and all the typical mean girls and backstabbing and gossiping that are such a part of high school (or rather are stereotypically a part of high school). And now she is trying to finally experience it. Oh, Amy. The glee she went into spying on Priya and trying to defend Penny was both sad and kind of adorable. She just dives in with such enthusiasm. Also sad and adorable was Amy in her new yellow heels in which she managed to look like a little girl playing dress up in her mother’s shoes.
- I am really glad that it wasn’t Penny who started the whole ‘operation Priya, wouldn’t want to be ya’, and that she didn’t in fact know what was going on until it had already started. I feel like Penny has earned her irritation/upset with Priya but I don’t want her to be the type of person who instigates this type of thing. In the beginning there was just jealousy but now, while it’s undoubtedly still there, I feel like it is or should be more about the fact that Priya is basically keeping Penny away from her friends with her demand and that’s just completely unfair.
- I also really liked that Priya’s comment that got Penny mad could have been sincere but that Amy was so caught up in her high school narrative/fantasy that she framed it as negative and Penny is so willing, even wanting, to see bad in Priya that she accepted it that way. In fact from what we see of Priya this episode I think it’s clear that she didn’t mean it in a derogatory or negative way at all.
- I could have done without jealous Priya. I can understand why she is uncomfortable with Leonard hanging out with his ex-girlfriend all the time, which explains her attempts to force them apart, but her behaviour at the dinner felt a bit much.
- I actually can’t blame Howard for not being willing to help Leonard because it was indeed hilarious. JG did an excellent job with his ‘befuddlement’.
- Sheldon really should have asked Amy and Penny to play his three person chess instead of playing himself. Sure, he’d probably say playing himself would be a better use of time than playing with Penny but why wouldn’t he ask them?
- Raj and Sheldon deciding that orange = lonely amused me. Perfect.
4x23 ‘The Engagement Reaction’
- My favourite parts were the Penny/Priya interactions. This is how it always should have been. It just made me so happy. There was no bitchiness or underhanded comments or sarcasm. In fact the couple times when they could have made things awkward TPTB chose not to. When Penny started giggling Priya could have thought it was about her but instead she was amused and curious. Priya could have been defensive when Penny brought up Leonard and sex but instead she gossiped with Penny. They got along really well. It was great. It may be too much to hope but please let them stay this way please.
- Penny giggling at the idea that Howard is her friend while at the same time realising/accepting that he is made me go aww.
- “You’re a mean little man.” Raj messing with Leonard was hilarious. I loved both Raj and Leonard in these scenes. I loved that Leonard was actually pleased about them getting along before Raj started to mess with him. Raj’s gleeful poking at Leonard made me laugh.
- I loved the Penny/Sheldon scene. It’s been so long! I love that Penny misses Sheldon’s jibber-jabber. Her amusement with him was adorable. I loved that she managed to get him to go to the hospital because Penny has learned how to handle him over the years and of course she would be able to.
- I loved Bernadette trying to be supportive of Penny. She’s not a mean person at all, and Penny knows that and her, but for Penny she will try and she does it in her own way. It’s actually kind of sweet. Also I’m amused that when she does lie she doesn’t state it right out. See her “That’s what you ordered” to Priya. I find that kind of cute.
- “I love you so much.” – Sheldon to Leonard after an accidental sip of tequila. Heh. Aw, Sheldon’s real feelings revealed. I liked Leonard’s “are you all right” as well.
- Howard calling Bernadette ‘Berny’ is very cute. I actually found all the Howard scenes amusing.
4x24 'The Roommate Transmogrification'
- I was worried that when Penny interrupted Priya asking Leonard if he wanted to share a Sheppard’s pie with her that Priya would get irritated/angry. And I wouldn’t have blamed her because it was a bit rude (and exactly the reason Priya tried to banish Penny.) So when she reacted by laughing instead I was so relieved.
- I love that Penny uses Sheldon and Leonard’s wi-fi and even though Sheldon knows it, and changes the password to things like ‘pennygetyourownwifi’, he still accepts it. He casually tells her the password and then drops the subject. I also loved that Penny just joined Sheldon and Raj for dinner.
- At first I thought that, with Amy’s massage instruction, we would get Raj woken up/having to listen to Sheldon’s “oh, I’m so good” moaning as he massaged himself for laughs. That’s how a normal episode would end.
- “You know if we weren’t friends I would be on you like the speed of light squared on matter to make energy.” I saw the Penny/Raj hook up as soon it was revealed that she was drunk. I was hoping that there was a shared connection between the two – and I suppose there is because they’re friends – but it came off very one night stand. What I would like is if it were to unexpectedly turn out to be the start of an actual relationship or an attempt at a relationship between them. That could be very interesting. But that’s not really the feel that I got from it.
- Sheldon reminded me of Amy at the beginning when he was so surprised and pleased when everyone actually laughed at his joke and the way that he tried to make it happen again. Aw, Sheldon.
