Bastien Moreau, The Conclusion [No. 20]

+ I loved Liz and Dembe waiting for Red outside the jail. The callback to Red waiting for Liz in season 3. The big grins and happy hugs. Love. Also I liked the little detail that while Liz was very "wth, Red" about the reveal that he had no idea where the Moreau was, Dembe was still smiling in the background. He's basically immune to (most of) Red's nonsense at this point.

+ How Red survived was a bit anti-climatic.

+ I'm not sold on Liz deciding to drop her search for the truth. I mean, really? It worked for me that she chose not to question Red when faced with his death. But it doesn't entirely work, that after everything she has gone through and how much she has always felt the need for answers, that she'd just drop it. It could work if they'd approached it differently and explored Liz's feelings a little more. Her explaining it to Ressler is the perfect opportunity to also explain it to the audience.

I can fanwank it - in the last episode she realised that she loved Red more than she needed the truth and so you can also say that at the same time the experience caused her to truly realise the terrible place her obsessive need for answers took her (almost inadvertently getting Red killed) and that shakes her up enough to rethink her choices and needs. Fine. But I want to see that onscreen.

Plus if Liz is truly giving up her quest for answers that leaves two very big questions: does this mean she's finally going to get her daughter back, and is she going to call her sister. Family is supposed to be important to Liz. Jennifer left because she wanted to stop looking into Red/the past; now that Liz has giving that up she can renew their relationship. Even more importantly she gave up Agnes to protect her. Liz is stable now, has worked past her anger (off screen mostly, still annoyed), and is no longer single focused on investigating Red. So that should mean she gets her daughter back, right? Doubtful. I'm sure they're going to use the new conspiracy as an excuse to keep Agnes gone, if they even bring it up, and honestly it annoys me a lot. This is Liz's job and it's never going to change. At this point they should have simply had her give Agnes up permanently.

+ You know this is just bringing up how disappointed I am with how the show has dealt with the Agnes situation. It would have been so easy to keep Agnes a presence on the show without having to deal with a kid actually being on the show. Have Liz looking at a picture of her, throw in a conversation or two with Jennifer where Liz tells her about her niece and perhaps make it clear that Liz is still seeing Agnes, have Liz turn down a dinner/drinks invitation because she's spending the weekend with Agnes, or have Red ask about her. By acting as if she doesn't exist, by not even doing the bare minimum to show that Liz misses her daughter and that loss is a constant presence in her life it's really doing a disservice to Liz, which annoys me so much.

+ So Ressler is totally going to keep looking into the truth about fake!Red, isn't he? Perhaps dragging Liz back in. I admit if he finds out more than Liz did I'm going to be irritated.

+ Dembe's continuing love for games is delightful. Those poor people, lol. The Task Force seriously needs to have a game night for him. I love how excited and into it he got.

+ "I'm being completely genuine. Because it's one that's proven to be a job with an extraordinarily high mortality rate. Shall we sign?" - Harold. Heee. I am so looking forward to McMahan overseeing the Task Force because so far her interactions with Red and Harold have been rather fun.

+ Harold threatening the president to save Red was great.

+ "The man we hate to love..." Yeah, that's pretty much Red in a nutshell for them now. Harold's voice was so fond, aww.

+ Poor Samar. I feel for her. But I don't get at all where her storyline is going. Maybe she's going to go back to working for Red? Or perhaps Ressler will bring her in to research Red? McMahan was very clear that if any of the Task Force help Red commit a crime they'll go down for it so perhaps she'll help them off the books?
