+ The whole world feels wrong without Isobel." ♥ There was some really excellent Max/Isobel this episode. I loved Max camping out in the cave, reading to her and keeping her company daily, for the last six weeks.
+ I loved Michael's dramatic "You literally hate everything I love!" after Max smilingly rejects his proposal to go at Arizona guns blazing. It was a really cute moment between them.
+ Max/Liz were a mixed bag as usual. I actually quite liked them and that final desert conversation and first kiss were great. But... I was not a fan of the way Liz just got over her (reasonable!) anger at Max and absolved him of any wrongdoing.
"I'm not angry at you for that." Uhh, why not? Liz being willing to forgive Max covering up Isobel's crimes because she understands love for a sibling works fine for me. But her so easily letting go of the fact that their cover-up lead to a decade of shunning and terrorizing for her dad works so much less. It's too quick, too easy. That said, it's been six weeks since the last episode, Liz is a genuinely good person so fine, I guess. It felt too early for me, I needed to see her work through that anger and betrayal more, but maybe it happened offscreen for her.
Even so, I think the fact that she doesn't just forgive Max for what he did (covering up her sister's murder and how they set up her 'death' inadvertently making her family a target, trying to start a relationship with her while keeping that secret) but actually absolves him of wrong-doing (you were just a kid) and then goes a step further to take the blame on herself (she doesn't trust people, she thought he was inherently good and that was betrayed when she realised he lied, and thus she was really angry at herself) does not make me happy. At all. If they leave it at this and don't bring it up again I am not going to be pleased.
+ I loved Maria's little 'damn it' + fist shake when she woke up and realised that she slept with Michael. Heh. They were pretty cute.
+ "Your casual blurring of the lines between science and satanic rituals concerns me, Liz." - Kyle. Heee!
+ The Liz/Maria/Max/Michael bar scene was really cute. Michael's worry for Maria and asking Liz if she shouldn't go to her, Maria singing away her pain, Liz's "Maria saves herself" and how admiring she says it, Liz calling Michael 'Mikey' and dragging him up to dance, and them 'dancing' with Maria, Maria dragging Max to sing and him actually going along with it - I liked it all.
+ I liked the short scene of Michael and Liz working together on the cure and the little hints of the friendship that's grown between them over the last six weeks. More of that please!
+ I love that Cam went rogue and decided to turn to Alex instead of reporting to Jesse because that was a much better choice on her part. I also liked her refusing to let Alex and Kyle exclude her - and her inadvertently threatening to go to their parents made me LOL. Buut the way that argument played out left me feeling meh and I disliked her "who are you calling a girl".
+ Wow, the pod squad's secret is spreading at an alarming rate. I'm retroactively now 100% on Isobel/Michael's in sending Liz away and trying to intimidate her to leave. When did Alex even learn the truth? If Jesse suspected enough to have them as aliens in his files you'd have though he'd have made on move on the pod squad.
+ Noah's reaction to finding Isobel in an alien pod was pretty suspicious. Now I'm wondering if he's the alien killer or a red herring. Either would make sense.
+ The Alex/Michael talk about how they just connected to each other as if they had some sort of cosmic bond is making me wonder if the aliens really do imprint. I'd actually love if the show did canon alien soulmates and explored both the good and the downsides of it. It would make Alex/Michael and especially Max/Liz, work for me much better. Hmm, I wonder if that means Rosa was Isobel's imprint/soulmate? It could explain some of Isobel's behaviour with her.
+ Michael not noticing Maria's necklace in his boot until that very (in)convenient moment makes no sense. If it bothered him that much how did he manage to walk back to town, sit the entire drive home and then walk to her trailer without noticing and removing it? There was a less contrived way to do that.
+ I liked Max angsting about not healing people and naming the people who died that he didn't even try to save. Though with the prominence of Michael's hand injury this episode it just makes the fact that Max never healed it even weirder. I'm sure he tried and failed but then why didn't he keep trying, why didn't he keep practising until he could do it?
