The Third Estate [No. 136]

"My bond with him extends from this life into the next." - Dembe. ♥ I really do love them. It was really nice to see more of Dembe as a person and I actually really like that, apparently for the first time, he is at odds with Red and wasn't sure about what to do. I hope we continue to get more of this side of him.

It really stood out to me how paranoid Red was without Dembe at the beginning of the episode. He greets Liz at the door with a gun behind his back, when Dembe walks in he points a gun at him and the entire time Dembe is gone Red doesn't leave the apartment. It indicates a level of uncertainty and anxiety from him that I can't remember seeing before. Yes, Dembe is almost always at his side but we have seen him sent off on his own before so this level of unease felt extreme. The idea of potentially losing Dembe, the most solid and trustworthy thing in his life, has really thrown Red. Which makes sense if Dembe's been by Red's side for decades. But it does make it all the worrisome about how things will go when Red learns that Dembe lied to him.

I liked the race track scene but Red standing in the middle of the track was a little much even for him.

"So yeah, I'm listening. For an answer to my question." Heee. That just really amused me and I want Liz to reply to Red like this every time he side steps a question from now on. Also I like how she immediately clocks that it was Red that answered and starts looking for and questioning Dembe's absence.

Liz didn't have much to do but I liked what we did get. Her refusing to accept responsibility for Des's death but "if we fail to catch them that's on us" and her figuring out to look at the torture rack. I liked her "Actually it's not." on the difficulty in making the choice of giving the ransom.

Aram was also really great. I loved him during his kidnapping and how he didn't stop trying to save Tyler and talk himself free, how he managed to free himself and get the gun. I also really liked his final scene where he connected with Des.

I love that McMahon played them. That was such a great twist and makes her an even better antagonist. I'm guessing that she set the Task Force on the Fifth Estate because they were attacking people involved in her group or who could be? Mr. Foy felt weirdly prominent and I wonder if we're going to see him again.

Honestly I felt a little, not satisfaction but maybe schadenfreude, at the Whitmore’s using their money and power to force the storming of the hideout and then it being their son who was killed because of it. He might have survived if they hadn’t thrown their weight around.

Why didn’t Dembe tell Liz about Smokey when she was asking if Red would really kill a friend? That would give more urgency and weight to her choice if she knows that Red has killed already.

The random guy leader of the Fifth Estate was really unnecessary. We leaned nothing about him and they easily could have simply had it be the rich kids. Was this simply a get rich scheme for him/the kids? We're they actually giving some of the money away?

I was disappointed that Katarina's mother was already dead and this was all to simply lead Ressler to Dom. I'd never thought of her before but when the show introduced the possibility of her existence in the last episode it got me excited so this was a let down.
