Avengers: Infinity War Thoughts
Apr. 29th, 2018 12:02 pmI really enjoyed it. I'll do a longer review later. Some thoughts:
+ The theme of this is clearly love and sacrifice - sacrificing yourselves, sacrificing others and especially whether you can sacrifice someone you love for the greater good. We get two instances of someone asking/begging the person they loved to kill them for the greater good [Quill->Gamora, Wanda->Vision], and even though that person agonized over it they eventually did it – out of love. Plus both Gamora and Vision chose to kill themselves for the greater good but for different reasons are physically unable to do. We have two people giving up an Infinity Stone, and thus the greater good, to save a loved one. [Gamora->Nebula, Loki->Thor] Then you have Thanos sacrificing Gamora, possibly the only person he loved, to reach his goal. Also tied in you have people letting their emotions, especially grief, get in the way of doing the best thing. Thor didn’t kill Thanos immediately, Quill attacked Thanos at the wrong moment, even Steve refusing to let Vision die fits in. It makes me really curious, and a little nervous, about how this is all going to come together/play out in Endgame. What does this love/sacrifice theme mean for how Thanos is going to be defeated and things fixed? Who is going to have to sacrifice? ... so worried.
+ I actually felt like there needed to be more pre-Dusting deaths? Heimdell, Loki, Vision... really that's it? Considering the danger I honestly feel like there should have been more death.
+ I was really happy to see Pepper again and Tony/Pepper happy together was wonderful. I love them so much. BUT I was really disappointed that once again Pepper was being anti-Iron Man and ugh, I'm not happy that this is the direction they've gone with her. I got something completely different from IM3 - that she'd made her peace with Iron Man and understood why Tony did it - so I'm annoyed and bitter with the direction they've gone in with her. She's become more of a prop for Tony rather than a character in herself. I mean if this is still an issue than why did they even get back together? :(
+ Tony/Peter were delightful. I really love their relationship. I will be disappointed if Tony's not in the next Spiderman movie at all.
+ I really enjoyed Strange. I loved Tony/Strange a lot more than I was expecting. They were great.
+ The Cloak is still the best.
+ Thor was amazing. I loved him a lot. His big entrance in Wakanda was the best. Love. I really loved his kindness to Gamora.
+ Didn't see the Rocket/Thor team-up coming but they were wonderful.
+ Poor Gamora :(
+ I don't buy Loki's death. It was sad and everything with Loki/Thor was so great but if that really was Loki's death I'm going to be so disappointed. There was no way that attempt was going to work so why did Loki even try? He disappeared during the Hulk fight and then suddenly showed up again, why?
+ The big Thanos fight on Titan was excellent. Really well done. I loved that it came down to Thanos vs Tony and I'm intrigued by the fact that Thanos respects Tony. I love how well everyone worked together. Peter attacking Thanos was a dumb move but also 100% in character so it didn't bother me.
+ Guardians vs Team Iron was very fun. "What is Gamora?", forever LOL!
+ Love the new Iron Man armour. So much armour porn from this movie. Oh, and the Spiderman armour too. The legs were awesome.
+ That short Rocket/Bucky scene was a delight. I hope we can see them interact again.
+ I love the idea of Tony and Nebula working together to survive and becoming BFFs.
+ Everything with Okoye was great but I wish there'd been more of her.
+ I was kind of meh on Bruce. He felt very different but than I haven't seen Ragnarok yet.
