MCU - Pepper in Endgame
Apr. 30th, 2019 07:28 pmOn the Pepper front I loved what we got but I think it would have been very easy to add a couple more little scenes/deviations that would have established her role a little more in the future and it would have been perfect. This is what I would have liked:
- There was a perfect amount of her during the opening - her greeting Tony with a hug and sitting with him after he was sedated, though I would have liked her to be in the background of the scene where everyone discusses what happened.
- I would have added a Pepper hologram to the Natasha debrief scene. She can fill Natasha in on some SI project as she's still CEO. I'd have added a line between her and Okoye, just because they are my favourites, perhaps about some relief project they're working on together. Or possibly a line about Tony having finished some project and Pepper is having them delivered. Yeah, I like that it implies that Tony is also helping. Also Pepper and Rhodey exchange a Look before Pepper disappears.
- I'd change Tony's line about the Rescue face armour from it being a present he's making for her to a sort of "hey, now where'd you get that? I've been making upgrades to your mom's armour and you know you're not allowed to touch". IE, implying that Pepper is already Rescue which would make her later sudden appearance at the big fight as Rescue a lot less out of nowhere.
- When Steve/Natasha/Bruce stopped by the Stark house Pepper should have been in that scene. So Tony walks up the porch with Morgan, away from everyone. Pepper comes out of the house and she and Tony share a look as he walks past her to the other end of the porch. Pepper goes down and greets everyone. 'Hi Steve, come up./Hi Pepper' moment, not affectionate but friendly. Bruce comes forward and the two hug, 'hi Bruce/hey Pep' exchange. Maybe she asks something innocuous about his life (like, how's that book or something). He heads up and Pepper and Natasha meet up. It's clear in their body language that they're close/know each other well. Perhaps Pepper asks her if Rhodey talked to her, and how she's doing and Natasha confirms she's going to have to finally deal with Clint, perhaps tells her there's a smidgen of hope now, that's why they're here. I'd love a comforting half hug as they head up the steps. Perhaps Pepper saying "you guys are welcome to stay for dinner" and then takes Morgan from Tony and leaves. When Morgan comes back out it's to 'save Tony' but also 'mom says dinner is ready'.
- I'd change up the Tony/Morgan night sequence a little where after their talk Pepper comes in and Tony is all "oo, busted!" and Morgan giggles, and you think Pepper is going to nix snacks but instead she's all 'actually i want that too' and so the three of them head to the kitchen instead.
- Keep the Tony/Pepper scene where he confesses he did it except add some physical affection. She moves forward and they have a forehead touch calling back to IM3.
So yeah, that's basically what I'd add for Pepper specifically. Not a lot but just enough to fill out her (and Tony's) life in the future a little better. A couple other little changes that would have made a huge difference:
- I'd also add a Natasha funeral scene. Shorter than Tony's, sure. But when we see Clint and Wanda at the lakeside it's them both releasing their own flower bundles for Natasha and Vision. Pans back to show everyone there (though not going through everyone as it did for Tony to mix it up more.) Maybe a little change up in how people are ordered. Pepper is standing beside Peter and May, perhaps with Rhodey beside her and his arm around her. Clint's family are standing beside him. Steve is at Wanda's side.
- Also I really, really, REALLY need Morgan Stark to be just as much of a genius as her father and grandfather. We got two generations of male Stark's who were brilliant and to have the first female Stark not measure up to that genius would be infuriating. I really wish we'd had one scene during the movie showing a hint that Morgan was a chip of the old block. Like, maybe instead of playing superhero with her mom's facemask she'd been tinkering with it. OR she was playing superhero but with something she build as a bad guy - like her own version of DUM-E.
