Project Runway 9x11 Thoughts
Dec. 30th, 2011 06:07 pmThis is for the Birds
• I was surprised to hear that Viktor thinks only Josh, of all people, could be competition. Maybe it’s because Josh’s horror in the last challenge is still stuck in my head.
• It was nice to see how happy Anya and Laura were when they thought they were working together. I liked how friendly most of them were during the challenge.
• I love the whole idea of a head-to-head challenge. Has the show done this before? I can’t even remember.
• When Bert and Josh were paired I was amused and then immediately thought of how wrong that could go. We have seen how badly they work together and even though they are at a much better place their aesthetics are so different that I could see them imploding. Then they got the parrot as their inspiration and an implosion seemed so much more likely. The two of them ending up in competition instead of partners was possibly a good thing... except in a way the parrot was probably the worst choice for both of them for different reasons and as partners they could have maybe served to counter the other person. Josh is so flamboyant and goes overboard so easily that ‘parrot inspiration’ could cause him to go into ‘crazy’ easily; meanwhile Bert has the opposite problem where the parrot colours are really not something he uses or is comfortable which could affect his end product. He could either go too much to overcompensate or do not enough. Certainly the two of them are going to be very different. I can’t wait to see.
• “You think that sewing for four months is all it takes. True talent will shine though.” – Josh. Except... that makes no sense. This is a competition for designers. If it was all about, or mostly about, sewing that would be a different thing but that’s not what the show is about. Michael even says during the judges’ discussion that “this is project runway. It’s about design”. I think the whole situation with Anya pretty much proves what Josh said – in her favour. She is all about ‘talent shining through’. She has only been doing this for four months, designing at all for only a couple years, and she is already this good. It’s impressive.
• I really don’t think Josh’s simple orange dress was in any way copying Bert’s clothing. It didn’t look anything like Bert’s outfits and you can’t claim an entire style, sorry Bert.
• Tim hugging Kimberly was sweet.
Runway
Viktor – Pretty. I love the feathering effect (in fact I would have liked even more.) I like him using some yellow.
Kimberly – Sexy. I like the shape of the top a lot. I like the flowing of the skirt.
(They’re superficially similar but such different takes that I don’t see copying there.)
Bert – I like the layers of the skirt. The top is very meh for me. I don’t like the fabric of it – I don’t know how he got parrot with it.
Josh – Very pretty. The orange is surprisingly appealing. I like the drape of the dress especially in the back. I think it looks great.
Anya – I like it a lot, very interesting. I love the structure of it.
Laura – Okay. I love the purple feathering around the collar. The shiny material she used much less so especially in the pants. It’s too shiny and tight for me.
I choose Viktor, Josh and Anya as the winners. I picked Anya as the best and Bert to go home.
• Kimberly had such a bad day (and Viktor was so certain he would beat her) that her winning her competition was great.
• Anya’s model having to be cut out of her dress isn’t great but this competition wasn’t about ready-to-wear clothing so I don’t think that was as big a deal as Josh made it out to be.
