The Children of Gabriel

I really enjoyed that. I think my favourite part was how full the episode was of little character moments and interactions.

+ I love how Clarke and Bellamy immediately take up shared leadership as the episode begins.

+ Murphy dying because of his impulsive swim seems pretty typical. Of course the happy, care-free moment of simple joy that you were surprised didn't lead to danger actually did after all. I wonder why Emori wasn't affected by the sea weed? Also I guess this probably means that no one else went for a swim. Little surprised by that since I would have jumped in as soon as it appeared safe.

+ This was a great little exchange: Echo stopping a Bellamy/Octavia confrontation because 'they'll need her if they have to fight', Clarke butting in with a resolute 'no fighting' because they need them to teach 'us how to survive'. They both want the same thing (protecting their people) but are coming at it from different angles, and I find it really interesting. I hope we get some good scenes between them.

+ See this is why Clarke always ends up leading - she leads. She steps forward, she takes action, she negotiates and talks to other groups. Anyone else in that room could have done the same thing but they didn't. I mean, she starts off by defending what happened on the ship when she wasn't even there. You can't blame Russell for thinking Clarke was the leader since she's been doing 95% of the talking since he arrived.

+ I love that Clarke realises something is wrong based on the way Abby asks 'what's out there' and her expression, and as soon as attention turns away from her she goes to her mom to find out what it is.

+ I loved Clarke's very sharp 'What' when Abby told her Madi was on the ship. How she said it was perfect, and I loved Abby trying to calm her by holding her arms and shh-ing her.

+ "None of us are (disposable)." It was just a nice line. It makes me think back to Becca's lab and Emori's worry. Also this is our first and clearest sign that there is something very wrong in Sanctum.

+ Clarke calling Madi 'my child' always makes me happy. I love how impatient she looked with Russell when he stopped her.

+ Russell: Are you the leader of your people or not?
Bellamy: She is. She can speak for us.

So interesting. In that first scene Bellamy and Clarke were working equally as leaders but when Russell walked into the room Bellamy seems to have purposefully chosen to take a step back from leadership in deference to Clarke. This is the first thing he says in fact and until this moment keeps strictly in the background. I am so curious why. He didn't step back on the ship when they were organising to come down to Alpha. Nor at any other time during the last episode.

In the last episode he told Clarke 'I don't need you anymore' but that doesn't mean he doesn't want to need her. He became leader of Spacekru out of necessity because Clarke died. He lived his life and based his leadership in honouring her sacrifice. But now she's alive and back with them. We specifically get a shot of his reaction to Raven's sarcastic "I didn't realise you were giving the orders again, Clarke" just before he says the above line and it's hard not to also take it as a response to Raven's question on his part. We even get a reaction from Raven when he does (derisive snort and head shake). His excuse is that Russell likes her but I don't buy it. It comes off far more like Bellamy actively wants his old partnership with Clarke back and is actively working for it. I love that a lot.

+ I am annoyed that we didn't get anything more than another snarky comment between Raven/Clarke, and that Raven still didn't get her answers about Shaw.

+ Interesting little character moment - Bellamy chooses Raven and Echo to go with him and then Echo tells Octavia to come and he doesn't gainsay her though he clearly disagrees.

+ I am genuinely surprised that Clarke didn't say anything snarky when Bellamy reassured her that he would get Madi, "I promise". She simply nodded and accepted that. Even though the last time he made that promise to her he then proceeded to have Madi take the Flame. I realise Clarke's currently marinating in guilt and Bellamy's one of the few people on her side but not even a "that's what you said last time" dig? It stuck out to me.

On the other hand, the two of them apparently deciding that it's done and they've moved past it already and that for them forgiveness is always given, delights me. I like how it ties in to Clarke asking Russell to give her people a second chance and Clarke taking that ethos and her wish to honour what Monty gave them by living it herself by giving Bellamy a second chance, giving him her trust to protect her daughter again. Her smile when they arrived at the end, when he lived up to her trust this time, was wonderful. I wish this was foreshadowing for the group as a whole.

+ I liked Diyoza's disdain for the Flame/Heda situation. She's not wrong and I like getting an even more outsider prospective on the whole situation.

+ I loved Clarke standing at the edge angstily watching the team leaving through the fields (and Bellamy looking back at her). I loved how she then gets distracted by Russell and the dog and the implied chance at peace and the scene ends with her back to her people as she smilingly looks towards Sanctum. It felt like foreshadowing.

+ Clarke and the dog were freaking charming and adorable. I loved her reaction to her - uncertainty to delight. Her smile! It made me realise that this is exactly what's been missing - pets. That said, I am so anxious for that dog. If anything happens to it I'm going to be super unhappy.

+ "We all made it. Thanks to you." This was really sweet. There wasn't as much Clarke/Murphy but I loved absolutely every moment with them.

+ "I saw something. I felt something." I love that Murphy says this to Clarke specifically and I'm very curious about what he means. This is the 100 so it feels like it has to be something more than him wrestling with dying.

+ Lovely Clarke/Abby scene. I like that Abby tries to reassure her about Murphy. I like that she immediately tries to explain the Madi situation to a clearly still annoyed Clarke and that Clarke accepts it and they have a moment bonding over being mothers to stubborn children. It was very sweet. I love getting to see they approach their relationship now that Clarke is a mother too.

+ That little Jordan/Clarke roof exchange was adorable. Jordan is super adorable. I loved him being all "she's pretty great" and his little hero-worship of her.

+ Diyzoa playing paralysed was amazing. She is the awesomest. I loved her and Madi working together.

+ I appreciate how lovely Clarke/Abby are this episode. Abby inadvertently putting more pressure on Clarke by bringing up Kane's survival might depend on this wasn't the best move but she did better at the end. "Be yourself" is such mom advice. I liked Clarke asking about Kane.

+ "Don't worry, Murphy. Hell's big enough for both of us." ♥ I can absolutely handle snarking/bitchiness directed at Clarke if she gets to be snarky back instead of silently taking it or helplessly apologising.

+ I don't think we have ever seen Clarke look as anxious as she was going to and at that dinner with Russell and Simone.

+ "I won't apologise for saving the people I love." Clarke feels deeply guilty and regretful for the things she's done to save/protect her people so it was kind of nice to see her refusing to apologise for it. It's definitely in contrast to how we saw her with Spacekru in the previous episodes, perhaps because they were her people whereas Russell/Simone are outsiders that she doesn't feel she has to accept judgment from?

+ I don't understand why Bellamy stopped Echo from following Octavia. He wanted to not attack in order to protect 'our people' but once Octavia attacked the cat was out of the bag, and the best way to protect the others was to back Octavia. That was silly.

+ I was kind of feeling like Octavia and Diyoza should start a murder club together and then Diyoza was all aghast at Octavia's bad murder choice. With Diyoza sent out at the end fingers-crossed for Diyoza murder-mentoring Octavia while they hang with the Children of Gabriel. Honestly this could be great for both of them. They both need a friend and a second chance, and they'll have the best chance for that away from anyone who knows them.

+ I loved Bellamy running to Madi and carefully lifting her with a "it's okay". Aww.

+ W.T.F, Bellamy!! Dude. My man. The hell? This isn't like abandoning Octavia on Earth, this is a totally unknown world with unknown dangers. They were almost killed by insects, Murphy died because he went for a swim, who knows what else is out there? Not Octavia. Plus she just killed a bunch of the people giving them a reason to attack her in turn. I understand that he is full of anger and hurt towards her, that he doesn't trust her and her killing those people only confirmed his worries about how violent she is, and okay he's worried about how unhinged she is and that she could be an active danger to everyone else, I get all that. If this was Earth I would be fine with this, if this wasn't Octavia I would also probably be fine with it. But like this, on an unknown world... eh. Right now he may think his sister died long ago but that doesn't change the fact that Octavia is still a living person. Monty would not approve.

+ So happy that we not only got peripheral Abby/Murphy moments but an actual scene between them. I loved that she went over to talk to him, that he actually opened up to her, and her trying to comfort him. I loved her touching his shoulder after Clarke leaves.

+ "Back to your murder gear already, that's a good sign." - Murphy Heh.

+ This is maybe random but I feel like Cillian could be a Children of Gabriel plant. The way he reacted in the scene where he dressed Clarke's wound felt subtly off.

+ Between "not if it makes her a target" and his genuine smile at Clarke in the dress (not to mention their short exchange on approach to Sanctum) it feels like Miller doesn't share Spacekru's anger at Clarke. He definitely shares Clarke's self-loathing. I hope we get to explore this more as well as Miller's place in the group and his feelings not only for Clarke but for Spacekru.

Also Bellamy abandoned Octavia in the forest - how is Miller going to react to that? He was one of her most loyal followers for six years even if those last days broke his belief in her. I really hope we get a reaction from him.

+ Jordan absolutely screwed up and I get why Clarke's angry about it, and honestly she wasn't that mean to him, but when she nodded to him realising that he was the reason they weren't going to be able to stay I was all 'stop being so mean Clarke!' He's innocent and sweet and was making friends with lovely Delilah, and they were being adorable together. At least on the scale of things as a first time screw up this was pretty mild. No one even died!

+ Also this is not the end of the line for everyone. There were other missions and other potential planets, and frankly I hope we get to see all of them.

+ Some great reunions at the end. Clarke/Madi reunion run and hug #3 (?), I love them so. I also loved Clarke's smile at Bellamy and his nod back. Emori and Raven's lovely hug and Raven/Murphy's little exchange. Bellamy putting his hand on Murphy's shoulder and apologising and Murphy rubbing it with his own as he tells him it wasn't his fault! ♥ So much love. (There should have been a background Echo/Emori hug.)

+ I wish we'd gotten a moment between Clarke and Bellamy where they actually talked about the fact that she stabbed him and he tried to strangled her to death. Maybe addressed some of that residual anger between them

+ Diyoza looked so happy and surprised when Simone approached her so friendly and offered her help with the baby, and I felt bad for her when it was immediately taken away. She seriously needs a friend. She's awesome, she deserves all the friends. That said I'm also rather interested in learning more about who Diyoza was on Earth.

+ Madi calling the Children of Gabriel 'terrorists' felt really off. Even if they do need a shorter name for me to use. But 'terrorist' really doesn't feel like a word that would be in Madi's vocabulary, nor one that really fits who the CoG appeared to be. Meanwhile Diyoza was a terrorist, and that past ends up ruining things for her now, which is why I think they had Madi use that word. It came off very awkward.

+ I love that Madi stepped forward when they started dragging Diyoza out and Diyoza telling her it was okay when Clarke held her back. I hope we get more with them at some point.

+ Sucks to be the people left on the ship having to live on algae but on the other hand the chances of them dying horribly are down considerably! I hope that it's not too long though because I want Indra back.

+ JR Bourne is great as Russell.

+ So this whole Prime situation is reminding me a lot of Stargate and the Goa'uld. Which makes me immediately side with the Children of Gabriel. How does the host situation work - are they completely overwritten with the Prime personality, or simply shoved into a box, or do they fight? I feel like this is something that's going to be very important for Clarke with Russell eyeing her as a potential host for Josephine. For that reason alone I'm assuming it's not the first option.

In Josephine's introduction she felt very similar to Clarke and it could be amazing if it was the latter option and there ends up being two personalities in Clarke's head, and we got to see the two interact. I wonder if Clarke's experience with the Flame will help with that? Josephine didn't strike me as the type of person who would be fine with taking over another person's body which makes me wondering if the mechanism that lets them do so causes an empathy bleed. Like the sarcophagus in Stargate. Or if we might get Josephine helping Clarke take down the Primes, that'd be fun.

I love how this all potentially ties back to Becca. This could be something planet specific but Becca's infinity symbol, the 'royal' black blood and the prominence of the Flame makes me sure that this is Becca related. I'm assuming she sent earlier versions of the Flame with each of the Eligius missions, perhaps a version where only one personality could be kept. If so I love that Becca's reach extends so far and her actions continue to affect everyone's lives.

I'm also interested in where Madi's storyline could go. Between the revel of the 'dark commander' and the potential of there being multiple earlier versions of the Flame in Sanctum there are a lot of places this could go.
