The Face Behind the Glass

Another really enjoyable episode. This season is great so far. I really can't wait till next weeks episode.

I'm sure Russell is wrong about the mind being erased because there is no way they're killing off their main character in episode four. That said it is The 100 and if any show would do that I can see it being this one. I'm mostly not worried. Only a little, hahaha... :{ Going forward assuming they don't kill her there are two options: Russell was wrong/lying about the host mind being erased or, Clarke's previous experience with the Flame will act as an extenuating factor in Josephine's mind-stealing not actually working properly. I'm hoping for the former simply for poor Delilah. Either way I foresee Clarke being trapped inside her own mind and perhaps having to fight against her regrets/demons from the past to regain control.

I am so excited about this Clarke possession story. Both for Clarke, assuming we get to see her POV, and especially for everyone's reactions to what happened to her. ESPECIALLY if they do think she died and is gone. I want all the angst and anger and regret. All of it. This is the perfect opportunity for Raven and Murphy to deal with their anger towards her.

Poor Clarke. Of course as soon as she let's herself have a short night of fun it'd end in betrayal and her body being stolen from her. Her crying while paralysed, unable to save herself, was heartbreaking. After everything that she's survived for her to die like this - ouch.

Eliza did an amazing job as Josephine. Her body language, her smile and her inflection were so different from Clarke and I was impressed. I also thought Delilah's actress did a great job differentiating between Delilah and Priya.

Josephine appears to be 100% in agreement with body-snatching, darn. I wanted her and Clarke to work together.

Jordan's explanation of growing up with 'faces behind the glass' and his guilt about his choice to enter cryo making him a face for his parents was bittersweet and sad. I really loved it. I had the impression that Monty/Harper had convinced him to go in but it being his choice because he wanted a life with other people makes me hurt for Monty and Harper. I'm sure they visited his cryochamber often which adds a lot more bitter to their bittersweet ending.

The Clarke/Bellamy amends talk was so lovely. I loved Bellamy once again empathizing with Clarke over making one person your everything because, as stated over and over, he understands that headspace intimately and that's why he can so easily forgive her for the events of season five. I loved Clarke responding that he was her family too and promising not to forget it again. I adored: "You're too important to me." and the hug was great if maybe a little too short. I loved both their expressions during it.

Clarke looked so worried when Bellamy first stood up. As if she was genuinely worried that Bellamy would take her apology and reject her, and it made so sad for her.

I did have one issue with the Clarke/Bellamy amends talk: the fact that Bellamy didn't make amends. Now he wasn't feeling the whole amends idea, fine, but it almost came off as if he didn't need to make amends to her? Which - no. Clarke left him to die and then sided with their enemy but Bellamy isn't guilt free here. He made Clarke a promise and then broke it by making Madi Commander, breaking Clarke's trust. Regardless of whether he thought it was the right decision, he knew it was a betrayal. Also if we're talking apologies why does Murphy get a "i'm sorry" for trying to drown him under the influence but Clarke doesn't for him trying to strangle her?

Clarke promising not to forget that he's her family and then immediately 'forgetting' via being taken over by another person is going to hit Bellamy hard. I can't wait.

Clarke adding 'Leaving Bellamy' to her lantern over literally any of her other many sins was great. I love them. Though when Bellamy said he had too many sins I was like "and Clarke doesn't???" Frankly everyone in their group should be sending up a massive amount of those things. They could call it lantern therapy. It could be a team bonding exercise. At the very least Murphy and Miller should have been doing it.

Delilah and Jordan are very sweet. I loved her running back to kiss him and tell him not to let her be a 'face in the glass'. I hope, though doubt, they can get a happy ending.

Raven teasing Jordan and lightening up for even a moment was nice to see.

I really loved that little Madi/Jordan interaction. Enjoying cookies for the first time together, Jordan adorable covering Madi's ears at Raven's innuendo and Madi's giggles over it. They are so adorable! I know he's a fair bit older than her but she has a lot more life experience than him despite his age and they had similar childhoods and I want them to become BFFs.

I loved the Madi/Clarke moment over the cookies - Madi looking to Clarke first before taking one, Clarke's smile as she watched her take a bite (her pleased anticipation), Madi's surprised delight at the taste. It was small but lovely.

I loved Delilah hugging Clarke and calling her "my hero". It made me happy for Clarke to have someone appreciate her so unreservedly.

I loved Clarke getting to let go and have fun. She was so giggly and joyful! Dancing and laughing with a cute guy, finally breaking that enforced six year sex dry spell with presumably great sex, just letting herself be free and happy for one night. It was really great. Plus she looked fucking hot in that blue dress.

I was initially disappointed that we didn't get more of an obvious Bellamy reaction during that dance club scene. After having watched it several more times it ended up working for me. I thought it wasn't obvious that he was watching Clarke but, honestly, what else would he be looking at? I took his explanation for how pensive and unhappy he was - the last party/Octavia - at face value. Even though that Ark party was definitely not the last party he'd been to. I missed that he looked back at the dance floor before going to Echo. So while I wish it'd been more obvious that Bellamy was watching her, and that we'd gotten a reaction shot specifically of him first seeing her in that dress, I like it more.

Bellamy was a dick to Echo so I'm glad that he apologised later on. But it was interesting that it happens immediately after watching Clarke dancing and having fun with another guy.

Clarke's changing expression when she found Cillian drawing of them - ouch. It was so great.

I knew hot doctor Cillian was a Child of Gabriel plant! I did not see him dying so quickly. It's a little too bad - he made Clarke happy and they shared an interest in both medicine and art (he's a great artist!), and I'm sure Clarke would have ended up siding with the CoG eventually - but I'm not really attached so mostly only a little. Plus if instead of having sex with her Cillian had decided to sit her down and explain what the Naming Ceremony means and the truth behind the Primes, everything would have gone a lot better for him, so really this is his own fault.

I do love that Clarke went to Raven first to try and make amends. I liked her telling Raven Shaw's last words.

"Your impossible choices." Well... yeah? So many of the choices Clarke's been backed into making have absolutely been terrible and Clarke has, in turn, been hurt from making them and regretted the pain and death that resulted from them. And she keeps making choices because that's how life works. Things keep happening, and in the 100 world they're often terrible. But what does Raven want from her here? To not make choices, to throw her hands up and refuse to ever do anything? Cause that's the thing about choices - either way you choose is still a choice. Should Clarke have not saved the 100 from Mount Weather by irradiating it? Should she have let ALIE succeed in her plan to 'save' everyone? These are still choices that she had to make? I've been saying it for a long time but I really, really need Raven to be the one who has to make one of these choices. She finds it very easy to judge Clarke about it but I wonder how she'd do in the same position?

Also Raven comparing Bellamy abandoning Octavia because she's a potential danger to the people he cares about positively against Clarke and her actions is ridiculous. All of Clarke's choices are for what she thinks will be the best for the people she cares about. She abandoned Bellamy (Indra/Gaia) to protect Madi. Everything she did was for Madi, because after 6 years her priorities changed. But nothing she did is different than what Bellamy did that Raven apparently approves of.

"The only difference between you and her is that Octavia doesn’t pretend to feel bad about it." Wow, Raven is so wrong on every level. Octavia is drowning in guilt, she's emotionally destroyed by everything she had to do. The same as Clarke. The fact that Clarke keeps making these difficult choices, and sometimes the wrong ones, but never the exact same ones, doesn't mean her regret or guilt is fake.

I loved Octavia with Rose. She was good with her and then so devastated when she died. Poor Octavia. Also I love the fear/demon speech call-back to Bellamy's similar speech to Charlotte in season one.

I knew we were heading to a Diyoza and Octavia team-up and I am very pleased.

Diyoza continues to be great. I really like her taking the deal to save her child. I loved her at the beginning - building a fire, staying calm and sure in her ability to survive this.

Raven deserves happiness, and I want her to have love with that happiness, but considering that Shaw has been dead for only three days as well as how short the time frame of a season always is, I am not down with Raven/Riker becoming a thing. I am however already OTPing Raven/motorcycle. ALL of the 100 need to have motorcycles now.

I liked Xavier's kindness to Octavia and Rose, and that he helped them to escape. I am definitely interested to learn more about him. That said, I hope the show isn't heading in a romance with Octavia direction with him because I really want Octavia/Niylah and I'll be disappointed if it doesn't happen.

I was disappointed that in an episode with talk about making amends Miller, Jackson, Murphy and Emori were all missing. At the very least it would have been nice to see Miller writing his own lantern message.

I wish we'd had a mention of the people still on Eligius 4. Niylah and the remains of Wonkru kom Skaikru are still hanging out and eating algae while 400+ more people are cryo. This whole Sanctum situation is going to blow up quickly but they don't know that so I wish we'd had them even mention how they're planning to deal with this.

So 'the anomaly' is totally that weird green vortex Raven saw, yes?

I love how the Prime's taking over random bodies means some interesting visuals for the Prime relationships. I loved Priya hugging her baby boy Riker. I wonder who poor little Rose would have become?

I'm curious how Russell intends to explain away Josephine cutting the line to the other Primes? Are they going to try and fool everyone that she's still Clarke? Because I can't see that working for very long. Like maybe one interaction with Clarke's people. I foresee a Prime slap-fight in the future.

I liked the switch between Simone starting off hesitant to use Clarke to her reassuring Russell that it was meant to be.

JR Bourne is great as Russell. I would have bought Russell being genuinely torn and regretful to Clarke more if we hadn't had that rather masterful passive-aggressive amends speech earlier. That was some grade A+ bullshit. On the other hand we did have him being adamant that he didn't want Delilah's day ruined. He's an interesting mix.

It was interesting to hear Russell call Clarke 'innocent' especially considering that they know everything about her past. Even Simone doesn't use her being a mass murderer as a reason for why it's okay to sacrifice her.
