Meh.

Positive

+ I liked Carina.

+ "Oh, come on. I have to walk up stairs too?" - Jack LOL.

+ "In short most of you have the mind of a goat." - Carina. Heh. I enjoyed her final last words.

+ I quite enjoyed Jack and Carina's few interactions and theirs was a relationship I wanted to see more of. Their bickering during their duel execution scene was fun and amused me. I thought all their interactions had a lot of energy to them.

+ "How dare you do what I would do if I were you!" - Jack to Carina. Hee. I loved Carina choosing to jump ship.

+ Barbossa's reaction to learning the truth about Carina was wonderfully well done. All their interaction after that point were great. I loved them on island and their final scene on the anchor was great. He has her stars as a tattoo! "What am I to you" / "Treasure"

+ The Barbossa/Jack interactions were great.

+ I liked Jack saving Henry during the shark scene and how that played out even if it didn't make sense.

+ Will and Elizabeth's reunion, even if I didn't like the circumstances, was lovely and Jack watching it via telescope from The Black Pearl was the perfect touch.

Negative

+ The whole thing was trying too hard to be funny and missed the mark a lot.

+ This movie faced a lot of the same issues that time jump sequels do in dealing with the original casts and where they currently are in the story. And unfortunately it didn't much work for me. Will was okay. Barbossa, eh I can accept it I guess. But Elizabeth and Jack? No.

Jack felt fully flanderized in this movie. He was always a fun, ridiculous and verging on silly character but he was clever and sly and that offset it. He had heart. He was a pirate with a heart of gold! This movie almost entirely shifts him into slapstick comedy monkey and the competence of the character dropped. I think his character arc was supposed to take Jack at his lowest point, a drunken failure, and raise him back to the Captain Jack Sparrow everyone knows and loves but it didn't really work for me.

Elizabeth meanwhile is off-screen and when she shows up at the end it's in full period appropriate costume apparently having been content, or at least sadly resigned, to Will's loss and letting her son try to save him. No. This is not Elizabeth. She's King of the Pirates. She would have been on that search for the Trident herself, or on her own separate one. Why was she wearing that dress? Elizabeth hated those clothes. While people change this is not a change I'm interested in.

+ There also felt like there was a lack of connection between Jack and Will/Elizabeth that I found sad.

+ Jack drooling over Elizabeth, talking about her physical features instead of her character ones that really set their connection put me off.

+ That whole island forced marriage sequence was utterly terrible.

+ The witch character felt very pointless. They could have maybe did something with Carina being accused of being a witch and her actually being one but they didn't. She was simply a deus ex witch to move characters in the right direction but who didn't really make sense to me in the story as a character.

+ Sad that Barboss died though it'd be very easy to bring him back. Still his death felt very unnecessary and his survival would have given a better resolution to Carina's story.

+ Carina being at the helm of the ship made no sense whatsoever.

+ The ghost sharks and birds were a little ?? Where did they even come from and why does Salazar have control of them?
