Killing Eve 2x08 Thoughts
Jul. 20th, 2019 11:29 pmYou're Mine
Great finale. I can't believe we have to wait a year for next season.
+ "We are the same." I loved Eve/Villanelle so much. Amazing episode for them. It gave me everything I could have wanted.
- "You love me. (No.) I love you. (No.) ...I do. You're mine. You're mine!" ♥
- I loved that little moment when Villanelle softly repeats "This is what you wanted" and touches Eve's chin and leans slightly forward, the two of them so close together, and it really seems like a kiss might happen.
- Loved Villanelle shooting Eve when she was going to leave her, A+ ending. Of course Villanelle wouldn't try apologising for manipulating Eve or acknowledge that she made a misstep. I love the comparison to the season 1 finale. Fingers crossed that Villanelle shot Eve in the same place Eve stabbed her. It's how they show their love! I don't know that Eve is going to be as sanguine about it as Villanelle was but I also don't think this is going to destroy their relationship long term. If Eve holds a grudge I can see Villanelle being all confused and affronted.
- A part of me wishes we could have seen Villanelle's little fantasy happen. I'm curious about what 'normal' would look like to her and exactly how long it would last. I love the soft way she says "I'll look after you."
- Villanelle was really playing for keeps - she let Raymond choke her to the point that I don't think she could have drawn her gun and shot him, and thus was literally leaving her life in Eve's hands. I fucking love it.
- Loved Eve axe-murdering Raymond to save Villanelle, as Villanelle watches and tells Eve how to do it and encourages/pushes her along. Though Villanelle lifting Raymond up so Eve had look into his face as she killed him was rather sadistic - as per usual.
- I loved Villanelle's gleeful look back at Raymond's body and then the way she presses her face against Eve, snuggling against her for a second, as she helps her down the stairs. The same with her obvious delight later when she says "with an axe" - she is so fucking pleased!
- I loved Eve and Villanelle both refusing to abandon each other even as their handlers tell them the other person doesn't care about them. Carolyn's 'She wouldn't do the same for you' and Konstantin trying to instill doubt in Villanelle, and both of them insisting they're wrong but also there being that tiniest bit of uncertainty in their voices.
- "You look cute by the way."- Villanelle - very cute.
- I loved Villanelle telling Eve "Don't be brave".
- "I'm proud of you. You made us safe."
+ Eve has been circling not only Villanelle but murder itself like a moth to a flame since the very beginning. Her finally getting to act out some of that violence shocked her hard. It definitely felt like her outrage at Villanelle's manipulation and her subsequent attempt to completely back off from Villanelle and thus the violence and killing was her reacting in fear and feeling the need to return to her safe life. It makes sense to me as an initial reaction but I'm very interested in how this is going to go long-term.
"You want me to be a mess, you want me to be scared. But I’m like you now. I’m not afraid of anything." And I don't think Eve is really wrong here. Villanelle was definitely enjoying taking charge of Eve, of Eve following her without a fight. This is actually why I love that they didn't run away together - they aren't equals yet, Villanelle is still very much the one making the decisions in their relationship and that would never end well for them. But if this is Eve's awakening... well, that could open up a lot of possibilities.
It makes me excited to see not only what Eve/Villanelle are going to be going forward but who Eve is going to be. She's killed now, violently and close-up. It left her dazed and then tempted into running back to the safety of her old life. But that was only her initial reaction. She's had that blood on her hands. The fantasy is reality. Is she really not going to be afraid anymore? Hmm.
+ As with Julian foreshadowing Aaron (but shifting Villanelle into a position of more power) I like how Raymond choking Villanelle then is brought back now, except this time Villanelle is actually exactly where she wanted to be and was allowing him to choke her for her own purposes.
+ I loved Eve's horrified "I'm sorry" to Raymond when he cried out as she was pulling the axe from his back.
+ There was no chance of Villanelle taking Aaron's offer and I honestly don't think she was even a tiny bit tempted by it.
+ I liked Konstantin trying to save Villanelle by giving her the car and weapon and warning to get out. I liked their back and forth on friends vs family. "That's what families are. That's what we do." I feel like that's part of what Villanelle wants from Eve. Also while she's the one who calls them friends for her I think Konstantin is family, and his betrayal clearly hits her hard.
+ The implication that Villanelle has family out there is potentially interesting. I feel like it can't be some random normal person, and so my first thought is to wonder if this relative is one of The Twelve?
+ Carolyn's endgame being to set up a hit that could be put off on Villanelle seems very obvious and simple in retrospect but I like it. Of course, Villanelle would kill him. I loved her using that for her own goals. I am curious if she ever had further plans for Eve or if she was always being set up as a potential fall-guy even if Carolyn wasn't sure what for?
+ I loved Villanelle's red outfit. She looked amazing.
+ I loved the setting of the last scene in the ruins. It was beautiful.
+ Poor Hugh. He seemed pretty clued in about how obsessed Eve was over Villanelle but he still misjudged how much. Eve abandoning him bleeding on the floor was harsh even if she felt bad for it. She didn't even find help before leaving! She didn't know what she was potentially running into or how long it would take. At the very least she could have run out of the hotel and borrowed a random person to call an ambulance. So cold.
