Enjoyable episode, excellent final scene.

Alpha

+ Wow, I loved that final scene. A+ for Bob Marley! It was a beautiful scene.

Bellamy: No, I'm not losing you again. Come on, Clarke. Come on. Clarke, I need you. Madi needs you. Now wake up.
Octavia: Bellamy, she's gone.
Bellamy: No, she's not! Wake up Clarke, come on. I'm not letting you go. You're a fighter. Now get up, and fight!

... I don't think I can buy a platonic understanding of this scene. They love each other, clearly. They are each other's 'Person', yes. But to go from this and have Bellamy continue on as if Clarke isn't everything to him? I don't know if I can buy that. Or I can see him doing that, and Clarke doing that, but I wouldn't find it super satisfying. And it makes me feel sad for Echo who deserves someone who loves her that much, which is clearly not going to be Bellamy.

+ There is so much in this scene, parallels and allusions and layers, and I loved every single one:

- Octavia witnessing the Clarke/Bellamy reunion hug, just as she did back in 2x04.

- Octavia seeing Bellamy’s grief and refusal to accept Clarke’s death makes me think of Octavia and her own overwhelming grief when Lincoln was killed.

- Octavia watching also makes me think of 5x08 when she called Clarke "a traitor who you love" and Bellamy poisoned Octavia into a coma in part to save Clarke.

Then there’s:

- Josephine waking up to see Gabriel (her love of several centuries), after he saved her and Clarke waking up to see Bellamy, after he saved her. That then led to hugs between both as Octavia watched.

- Gabriel saying goodbye to Jo and letting her go vs Bellamy refusing to let Clarke go.

- Gabriel's "I could never hate you." makes me think of everything that Clarke and Bellamy have done to each other that they have subsequently forgiven each other for, sometimes without even a word about it, and I feel like this line applies to them just as much.

Also:

- Bellamy under the Red Sun in 6x02 telling Clarke "I don't need you anymore, Clarke" and Bellamy here, desperately pleading with her "I need you!"

- Bellamy "I'm not losing you again"/"I'm not letting you go" - he let her go post Mount Weather, he thought she was dead for six years post-Praimfyre, he thought she was dead after Josephine took over her body.

+ I loved Octavia's smile during the Clarke/Bellamy hug, I loved her softness with Bellamy when she tried to tell him Clarke was gone, and I loved her sadness and grief for Bellamy when he seemingly hopelessly refused to give up.

+ "Once the head stops telling the heart to beat it's over." I really loved how the whole 'heart and the head' thing has come back around in this scene with Bellamy beating Clarke's heart for her so she could come back to her head. Head/Heart working together, both necessary for the other to live. It's amazing. That said they've been mentioning it too much this season, a little too heavy-handed at times, so I hope they retire it for awhile.

+ I honestly thought Bellamy was going to say "I love you" when he was refusing to accept Clarke's death.

+ I love that it was Bellamy's voice demanding Clarke fight that distracted Josephine enough to give Clarke the chance to take her out. I have so much joy over the fact that it's Bellamy begging and demanding Clarke fight that causes her to fight hard enough to finally save her life.

+ Josephine betraying Clarke didn’t bother me at all. It’s Josie being Josie. Like Murphy! They’re always going to be who they are. And I love them for it. Plus, honestly, that’s exactly something I can see Clarke doing too. Anything it takes to protect their people.

+ I am genuinely sad that neural mesh!Josephine was killed instead of hanging out in Clarke's head forever. We could have had Clarke and Josie interacting with Josephine in a new body! Peanut gallery Jo. Clarke taking some me time in her head and making everyone else deal with Jo instead. The Clarke/Josephine show is a delight and I'm going to miss it.

+ It's clear that Bellamy's decided to completely put aside the whole Octavia situation to concentrate on saving Clarke and ends up mostly ignoring her. Put in contrast to Octavia's joy at seeing him and her running to hug him and crying, it's painful and definitely makes me feel for Octavia. Especially when he walks away without a word when she tries to talk to him. That clearly stung. But I get it. Their relationship is complicated and he only has the space to deal with one complicated situation at a time. I did really love his awkward little back pat when she hugged him - he didn't embrace her back but he couldn't help but do something. I found it endearing and funny.

+ Bellamy to the rescue was great. I loved Josephine's "because of course it is" when Bellamy killed the guards, ha. Yeah, she's getting it now.

+ The way Octavia said 'Clarke' and smiled after they pulled her from the roots makes me disproportionately happy. And then her semi-threatening "What happened to Clarke". I'm afraid that with Bellamy back at the same time any Clarke/Octavia reunion is going to be ignored but I'm hoping hard. There is a lot of baggage between them that I want to see them actually deal with, just give me a scene!

+ This episode sold me on Josephine/Gabriel. Josephine watching her and Gabriel's reunion in his second body was great. I loved their actual reunion in the blind with the hug and smiles and the way Gabriel rested his head against hers. Their final scene was actually emotional - Josie trying to reach him, their goodbye, his expression when she flatlined.

+ I love that as soon as Josephine starts trying to convince Gabriel to let her keep Clarke's body Bellamy instantly loses his patience with their drawn-out goodbye.

+ Clarke/Josephine were excellent. I really enjoy them together. Clarke threatening to shoot Josephine was great and I liked her coming up with the solution to space Josephine's memories. I liked Clarke's sympathy during Josie's memory of her second life dance and her empathising with her later on. Josephine tells Bellamy that "we're actually friends" and I would honestly like that.

+ "Trust me, I know the feeling. We can let the bad things that happened to us define who we are, or we can define who we are." On the one hand she is right and I like that Clarke has apparently decided to define for herself who she is. But on the other, I mean it's not just the things that have happened to them it's also the things that they themselves have done. They've both done horrible things and that's as important as the bad things that were done to them (and sometimes they are both at once) and this ignoring that makes me go "yes, but!"

+ I liked the way Clarke kept talking about 'our' head and 'our' body.

+ I was surprised that Josephine didn't try spacing some of Clarke's memories. I was very tensely waiting for it.

+ I wonder why none of Clarke's memories were running wild? I would have enjoyed seeing that.

+ It's interesting that the wall of memories behind the bed changed. Before it was mostly locations (ruined Polis, her home in Eden, Lexa's throne room, a waterfall) plus a nice portrait of King Roan. Now it has Madi (being shocked, that memory is a big one for Clarke!), Bellamy (from 5x03?), Jasper, Luna and the dead of Mount Weather. It's clearly a purposeful change so I wonder why, and if it'll be addressed. The most confusing and intriguing additions are Jasper and especially Luna. I could see this as the wall of people Clarke feels like she's wronged the most. Or perhaps Luna's there because Clarke wants to emulate the way Luna created a safe place for herself and people?
