It was okay.

Alicia Vikinder was much better than I was expecting. I didn’t love her but I didn't hate her either. I thought she did really well with all the physical stuff.

Lu Ren/Lara were great. I'm glad there was no romance but I ended up shipping them all the same. I loved all the little moments where we see Lu Ren watching Lara – we get it on the boat, on the island and one last time on the helicopter. It makes his decision to help her escape (with the probable result of his death), then refusing to abandon her and going back for her, and the fact that he kept digging for her, work better than they might otherwise have. I bought his rather intense loyalty to her. I do wish that we'd seen more of her pov on their relationship.

In the workers escape Lu Ren did a lot more to save everyone than Lara did. After she kills the first guard she shoots a couple arrows and misses and it’s mostly down to Lu Ren and the gun he picked up that they escape. He came off more competent than her. It leaves you wondering why she didn’t pick up a gun. This could have easily been fixed simply by having her make those shots.

Why the hell would Richard go to the sealed door? Sure he’s kind of crazy but still! This was another easy fix - he came after her to protect her and gets caught by Vogel trying to do that rather then while staring in awe at the door to the tomb. I mean, really.

I liked Lara stubbornly refusing to touch her father’s fortune/company because doing so would mean accepting he was dead.

I liked Himiko’s body decaying after they opened her tomb. That was an effective little moment.

I actually didn’t mind that they stepped a little back from the supernatural and made Himiko a carrier of a (kind of supernatural) disease. Though it makes you wonder why her body wasn’t simply burned. A better use of those handmaidens, rather than sacrifices to serve in her afterlife, would have been to make them the guardians of her body and have their descendants guarding the tomb and in a midst of a war with the Trinity fraction.

I get why the movie cut back on the crew of the Endurance but I really wish they had kept Sam at the very least because a) the movie seriously needed more female characters, and b) I would have liked to see Lara with a loyal friend helping her. (I realise Lu Ren fulfills this role but it's different than a girl friend Lara's known for years sticking by her side. I think both characters could fit in the movie easily.

I feel like there was something better that Lara could have pawned to get money rather than a gift from her father.
