Elementary 7x12 and 7x13 Thoughts

+ I really liked the little moments of Sherlock struggling with his grief and guilt over his father's death. Looking back I'm surprised that the show didn't give Sherlock a moment of reconciliation or understanding with his father before his death. Or rather they didn't have Sherlock take the opportunity to reach out, even knowing how dangerous the situation was, when he had the chance. Morland basically told him that he would always be there for Sherlock, and Sherlock could have extended an olive branch in response. Instead Sherlock let his father leave without saying a word and it was the last time he saw or spoke to him before his murder. How bitter that must be for Sherlock. Especially since that's so similar to how things ended with Mycroft. Ouch. I feel so bad for him. I hope this gets touched on one last time in the finale.
+ I liked the final Sherlock/Odin confrontation. I actually wish the season had been longer so they could explore Odin as a character and his relationship with Sherlock (and Joan) more.
+ I loved that moment of Marcus's looking out over the water and struggling with the unhappy truth that Sherlock was probably dead. I loved Gregson's obvious grief in his confrontation with Odin and his vow to take him down.
+ Really loved the scene with ME Eugene. Him showing how much he cares about Sherlock by going the extra mile and doing background was great and I loved his reveal that he'd dumped his phone in a glass of formaldehyde.
+ When Sherlock said that he was 'the last Holmes' I found myself wondering if he might donate his sperm to Joan so she could have her child and his family line would continue.
7x13 'Their Last Bow'
Overall I really enjoyed it. I loved last season's finale's ending slightly more but this was a very fitting end to the series as a whole and as a cap to Sherlock and Joan's relationship.
+ "As long as we're together, what does it matter?" ♥ Joan/Sherlock were great. Sherlock hugging Joan was perfect! How emotional he was when he confronted her about her cancer, how emotional she got, the way he repeats that "I'm staying" and her eventually accepting his comfort. So great. I like that they ended the series still living and working together as the platonic life-partners they are.
+ I am very glad that Joan was in on Sherlock's plan and helped him succeed with it. I would have been pissed if he'd kept it from her after his promise. That said I really wish that when Sherlock had revealed that he was still doing his work and making local waves Joan had sighed exasperatedly and been all "I know but that's not the point!" because she is as smart as him and I'm not pleased that she didn't know his fate for two years. She would have looked, she would have noticed.
+ I get why Sherlock chose to stay away - a relapse plus Joan finally getting the child she wanted (plus his enemies) - but at the same time him choosing to make that choice for her again by not being honest with her annoyed me. But than I guess in a way Joan was doing to same. They are a pair. I love that both their choices were made to protect the other and their happiness.
+ I was disappointed not to see Moriarty but I did like how much of a presence she had in the episode. I loved the acknowledgement of Sherlock and Moriarty's still lingering love for each other - by Joan when she got the package (and thinking it was important enough to bring Sherlock back), during the Joan/Ellory talk. I adore Sherlock being so convinced that Moriarty faked her death. I love that he still sent a $500 flower arrangement even though he's sure she was alive.
+ I like the hint that Joan jumped at the chance this Moriarty contact provided to bring Sherlock back because she was scared about her cancer and she wanted him to be there. Or at least that's what it seemed to me.
+ I loved the Sherlock/Gregson scene. The hug, the talk with both of them opening up to each other and Gregson trying to help Sherlock by giving him gentle advice and telling him the truth about Joan. It was a wonderful scene and a perfect cap to their relationship over the series.
+ The three year time jump was a big surprise but I understand why they did it and I agree that it was the right choice.
+ The Sherlock/Arthur first meeting was nice but I wish we'd gotten more. Perhaps a short scene after the one year time jump seeing their relationship after a year living together.
+ I love that Joan told Marcus and Gregson the truth within weeks.
+ I'm actually pleased that both Joan and Sherlock found fulfillment and joy during their years apart. Joan continuing her work at the precinct, getting her son and writing the book. Sherlock continuing to take down criminals around the world in exciting new ways.
+ I love that Joan wrote a book about Sherlock. I love that it was partially in revenge after he stopped contacting her and his little grin when he called her on it and then the slight smile when she acknowledged it.
+ I appreciate that Joan finished the show continuing her trend of wearing lovely clothes - her opening dress was great, the theatre dress looked good, the black/white dress in the middle was gorgeous (I want it), and that final outfit was pretty.
+ Marcus punching Sherlock felt wrong to me. He had almost three years to deal with the knowledge that Sherlock was alive and faked his death. I don't buy him being physically violent with Sherlock. It was the biggest moment that didn't work for me.
+ I like what Joan did to the brownstone.
