The Mummy [2017] Thoughts
Aug. 22nd, 2019 11:05 pmI actually didn't hate the first half of the movie but once the Prodigium was introduced it was all downhill. I definitely feel like this movie suffered a lot because of how clearly it was being used as a foundation movie for a cinematic universe instead of simply being a movie in itself.
+ I liked the reasoning behind Ahmanet's interest in Nick and her being in his head. I thought that surprisingly worked but it didn't go anywhere interesting. I was left at the end wishing that if they wanted a mummy they had done something more with Ahmanet instead. Everything Jekyll had to say about Nick ('soulless', 'evil') would have made far more sense directed at Ahmanet and her story could have been much more intriguing. There are a lot of ways they could have taken it.
+ Ahmanet's death, meh. It was a let down. Nick bringing Jenny back to life, meh. Nick's fate, meh. The whole end didn't work for me, except for Nick bringing Vail back to life.
+ "The third one was unnecessary. You freaked me out, I panicked. I'm sorry. Okay?" - Nick. LOL. This was the funniest moment for me though Cruise gets a couple other amusing moments. He does deadpan well. I enjoyed the Nick/Vail relationship a bunch and thought they were fun.
+ It would have been nice if Jenny could have been competent and kickass in her own right instead of the damsel-in-distress she was. More of an Indiana Jones character, especially considering the secret society she belonged to. She should have been the knowledgeable one with insight and the skills to back it up. They also could have done something interesting with her relationship with Ahmanet considering her ability to speak Ancient Egyptian and her interest in Ahmanet and her time. Overall all of it annoyed me but the moment sticking out is when she runs back to help Nick during the Hyde confrontation, fights a co-worker to do it and then she doesn't even save him!
+ I liked Jenny putting her seat-belt on after a zombie almost pulled her out of the vehicle and that immediately saving her life when it rolled soon after.
