This show’s timeline is so Lost redux. Oh, my god it’s ridiculous. Season one took place over like a week or two. Season two is starting with only a month having passed since the pilot and this season looks to be following last season in each episode following after another.

2x01 ‘Nothing But the Blood’

• Okay, Sookie and Tara thinking it was Lafayette in the car makes the screaming make sense. I didn’t even consider that as a possibility until I read the recap and Jacob stated, fact, that it was Lafayette’s foot. But no, I was right – a woman, Nancy/Jeanette. Poor Nancy – her face when she died, the terror on it, was pretty horrible. She was alive when he heart was ripped from her wasn’t she?

• I think Bill/Jessica may become one of my favourite things ever. He is so old fashioned and she is so modern and they’re hilarious together. I love watching him play dad with her (bedtime at 4 sharp, no eating people, no cell phone, recycle). I wonder if this means were going to get a Sookie/Jessica relationship where Sookie’s the step-mother who becomes a friend?

• I’m glad that they’re apparently going the route of Sookie and Jessica being friends, or at least I hope that’s where it’s going. Bill was all agog that her chat with Jessica worked but it worked because Jessica is lonely, and because there was truth in Sookie’s words. It wasn’t just a way to get her out of the way (though it was that too.) When they first meet Jessica realises “So this is your fault?” but we know that despite her irritation with life right now there’s no ‘fault’ here. Jessica is gleeful, immerged, in her new life. There is no blame, only thanks. It makes me think even more that they’re going to be friends. I hope we get to see their girls’ night out (going by timeline we probably will).

• Sookie/Bill continue to work for me. They’re rather adorable at times. I really love how Sookie calls Bill out on his crap. “If I’m with you and she’s with you then she’s with me. ... That’s not protecting me, that’s lying to me. How am I supposed to ever trust you if you keep something like that from me. ... I’m a lot stronger than you think.” He wants to protect her and sometimes she needs to be protected but she can also damn well take care of herself, and she never needs to be protected from the truth.

The thing that really stuck out to me with them was the end with Bill biting her and then feeding her back her blood when he kissed her. Kind of disturbing, kind of hot... It makes me really wonder what is going on in her head. Blood is definitely not a squick for her but it’s her blood she’s tasting which goes just a little further. She exclaimed to Jason, appalled, that Amy was a ‘V-addict’ but it really reminded me that Sookie probably has more V running through her on any given day than Amy ever did. Why doesn’t it affect her like it did Amy/Jason, or like the Rattry’s back in the pilot?

• I like that it was Jason in all his idiot savant wisdom that convinces Sookie to give Bill another chance. “If you love someone you have to love it all or else it ain’t love.” I do not think this was the result he was expecting. Plus he may be all caught up in the love part of the Fellowship but he knows there is something wrong, knows the hate is there, because he feels the need to lie to Sookie about where he is going.

• The biggest surprise for me this episode was learning that two thirds of vampires die in their first year. Huh.

• "What a rare opportunity this is! I've always wondered what it would be like to gaze into the eyes of someone so devoid of human compassion that you would abandon your own child when she needed you most." – Maryann. Ow. Tara looked so taken aback by that, and hurting for her mother. Her mom’s expression when Maryann and Tara hugged, and Maryann was being so mothering and Tara so accepting of that mothering, – I felt sorry for her.

• Tara tells Eggs that she saw her first dead body the night before and it was kind of a shock for me. I was going ‘her first, really?’ and thinking back. It’s just at this point Sookie has seen so many dead bodies, so much violence and blood, it’s shocking to put their experiences up against each other.

• Are we supposed to connect Nancy’s fate to the dungeon beneath Fangtasia? Was she one of those kept down there or is her death to do with something different? I’m thinking it was Maryann. Maryann who I really want to know more about. What the hell is she? Was I right with witch?

• So Eric is capturing people who kill vampires, locking them in his basement for weeks, before killing them. Is this something he decided himself, or a part of his job as Sheriff? I don’t think Sookie is going to take this well. (This is relevant because I ship them.)

2x02 ‘Keep This Party Going’

• I loved how much Bill was Jessica’s father and Sookie was her step-mother this episode. I saw the parallels in the previous episode but the show actually made it explicit here with Bill naming Jessica his daughter and shopping for clothes for her, and Tara stating to Sookie that she’s now the step-mother to a vampire. Sookie messes up, oversteps her bounds in her role of step-mother, and things go bad but I hope this doesn’t mean that she’s going to be cut off from her step-mother role because I’m enjoying it.

• I loved all the Eric we got in this episode. I loved him being all repentant about getting blood in his hair and his scene with Bill was excellent (so many layers there).

• Bill, messes up just as much as Sookie but with less excuse, in telling Eric no even though he knows it wasn’t really a question. He knew the smart thing to do would be to say yes and yet he just couldn’t do it. Sigh.

• Lafayette was awesome this episode – fighting so hard and so well to save himself. First, in answering anything Eric asks, even to the point of giving up Jason. Second, doing something horrible in order to get out of his chains, and almost escaping. Third, once again using his words to try and convince Eric to make him into a vampire. He was pretty fabulous throughout.

• This episode gave me the Sookie/Tara stuff that I’ve been wanting for so long – Sookie showing interest in Tara’s situation and especially Sookie asking Tara to move in with her – but I want more. I really want Tara to take Sookie up on her offer (though considering how the episode ends with Tara back with Eggs I’m doubtful.) I love how Tara was such a part of the Stackhouse family, that she was right there in the picture on the mantle like she belonged, because to them she did.

• Maryann and her deal is intriguing but not as much as I thought.

• Jason’s storyline is boring me.

• Another bit of interesting vampire trivia – vampires actually have to listen to their Makers.
