Fantastic Episodes 4 & 5 Thoughts
Sep. 23rd, 2019 11:12 pmEpisode 4
+ I liked the reveal that Hae-sung and So-hye had a mutual crush on each other back when they first met.
+ I like the little moments we get of So-hye mentoring Sang-hwa and Sang-hwa cheerleading So-hye dating Joon-ki was really cute.
+ Sang-wook's crush is adorable.
+ Chang-suk's unrequited feelings for Hae-sung made me sad for him.
+ Jin-sook is the worst. (Her mom isn't far off.) Her taking the cash was just petty. And of course she blackmailed Hae-sung into signing a terrible contract with her.
+ Meanwhile Sul's husband Jin-tae is so spineless. He clearly feels some shame over how she's treated (and by his lack of interference?) and yet does nothing to actual help her, instead giving the occasional sad look or small attempt to be nice. That whole family is so terrible.
Episode 5
+ Oh, So-hye. I get it, she thinks she's dying and doesn't want to bring that sort of pain to someone she genuinely cares about but at the same time - sigh.
+ Poor Hae-sung, he is so in love with So-hye. I felt for him so many times this episode. His scene with his grandmother was sweet and sad. I liked hearing from him about his feelings. I do rather love that he's been pining for So-hye for ten years.
+ I actually thought for a minute there that this show would do something wild and do away with having a main love triangle. I loved that scene between So-hye and Joon-ki. But I feel like this is all going towards Joon-ki pretending to be So-hye's boyfriend only to actually fall in love with her (he really likes her now and respects her but it's not love yet) only to inevitably get his heart broken. Probably with a smile. No thanks!
+ I continue to like Joon-ki a lot. His attitude is great. I loved his amusement at Hae-sung; I liked his perceptiveness about So-hye's real feelings and his gentle teasing making the situation so much easier than it could have been; I like how his genuine concern for her isn't bossy or controlling; I like his compassion and honesty.
+ I loved that Hae-sung wasn't upset that Chang-suk had been embezzling from him but was annoyed he hadn't come to him for help and offended that he didn't do a better job covering his tracks.
+ Hae-sung's game of one-upmanship against Joon-ki was so childish but hilarious. I had a similar reaction to Joon-ki actually.
+ Sang-wook and Sul are cute but why didn't Sul go to So-hye (or Min-sun) when she needed a kitchen instead?
+ I like that they tied the Sul and So-hye plotlines together by making Sang-wook and Sang-hwa friends.
+ I loved Min-sun making it clear that she was on So-hye's side first and the way she kept getting distracted by being happy for So-hye dating instead of cheering on Hae-sung.
+ I was actually giving Jin-tae too much credit. I mean I knew he was terrible but I thought more as a weak-willed and pathetic follower. But his glee at continuing his affair with the congresswoman while on the phone with Sul, and him making her thank him, before hanging up to be all giggly with his mistress was as vile as his sister and mother (throwing out those leftovers!) and I want them all to go down in flames.
