Fantastic Episode 11 Thoughts
Sep. 30th, 2019 01:46 pmI loved this episode. It did not go in the direction I was expecting based on how the previous episode ended. Instead it went in the best and most delightful direction it could have gone. A+ episode.
+ Sul's freedom from her husband and in-laws was amazing. Confronting them with the expensive wine that they're so proud of, spraying everyone with a bottle and getting Jin-tae in the forehead with the cork (ha!), calling Jin-tae out, revealing the affair and breaking all the rest of the wine as she left - legend indeed. It was worth the wait and to see her throw off her hanbok and let down her hair, free and smiling and so happy was great.
+ The friendship between the three women finally took the precedence I've been wanting and it was wonderful. I loved So-hye and Min-sun showing up for Sul at her darkest moment and saving her from her despair. The two of them managing to find the money for her mother's surgery (Min-sun liquidated her savings!) was excellent and I loved the three of them getting together to brainstorm how best to get Sul out of her marriage. I loved that they (and Pil-ho, ever supportive and wonderful) were waiting for her when she left. I also loved that little moment after her call to Sul where So-hye immediately called Min-sun in worry and Min-sun tells her everything (and then they rush to Sul's side).
+ Joon-ki and Hae-sung spending the episode as hospital room roommates was inspired. So much fun. I loved the return of their petty one-upmanship and Joon-ki messing with Hae-sung. Jamie finding their room strewn with junk food and games and then finding them secretly eating ramen in Joon-ki's secret garden (and scolding them, heh) was great. Their bickering! Hae-sung's jealousy! The moments of true caring shining through! It was all great.
What I especially loved was how worried Hae-sung was about Joon-ki throughout. His shocked reaction to the cancer revelation (I'd forgotten he didn't know) was great. Him immediately jumping out of his wheelchair to make sure Joon-ki was alright (even before the reveal), his solicitousness towards him (he covered Joon-ki with a blanket twice!) and how much he cared. He was so upset and it made me happy, lol.
+ I love that Joon-ki had Hae-sung kept for more tests so that he could show Hae-sung what So-hye would end up going through and help prepare him for what he'd need to do and how to handle it. Aww. And of course he managed to throw some messing with Hae-sung and laughing about it in there too which was perfect.
+ Honestly this episode made me fully ship Hae-sung/So-hye/Joon-ki. They are all so great - together and in all the individual pairs. I loved Joon-ki jokingly asking to borrow Hae-sung sometimes and her smilingly agreeing. I loved her worry over the both of them and her taking pictures of the two of them sleeping.
+ I love how Hae-sung has gotten into the habit of calling Joon-ki every time he can't get in touch with So-hye or needs help with something. Joon-ki telling So-hye "I think this guy likes me. What should I do?" made me laugh. If only.
+ I loved Hae-sung taking So-hye into the stairwell and asking for a hug - because he knows she just went through a rough time with first Joon-ki and then him. So sweet. (And I'm sure also he just wants to hug her because he always wants to hug her, and in my heart I also like to think he needs some comfort after learning that Joon-ki has cancer too.)
+ I was so sure Joon-ki was going to die so I'm overjoyed that he survived... but I'm still pretty sure he's going to die.
+ There was also a lot of satisfaction in Jin-suk and her mother turning on the assemblywoman when Sul revealed that she was having an affair with Jin-tae. Considering how much they loved her I wasn't expecting that. Definitely my favourite thing either of those characters have ever done.
+ Sul didn't bring up her husband's attempts to rape her nor her mother-in-law's attack on her that left her bruised and scratched and with a black eye. I hope it's not ignored.
+ Pil-ho continues to be the best husband. I loved that while he initially didn't want to give up their money he supported Min-sun's choice to do so 100%. I liked that he was there with the women at the end.
