Final Dance
Overall, I loved it. It was a great end to the series.
Dutch, Johnny and D'Avin on a mission together was a great way to end the series. I am in fact very content about where this show left all of the characters. There are mysteries left unsolved (Jaq's visions) but it doesn't feel like we're missing anything, rather that the story is continue we just won't see it. I wish we could see it but I'm happy with all we got.
"Find what you're looking for Johnny and then bring it home." I loved that Johnny's sabbatical ended up feeling like just that. I was worried that the series would end with Johnny leaving permanently to have a quiet domestic life somewhere but even with his decision to leave it didn't feel like that. He spoke of going on vacation (moontan) but also of adventure/fighting (destroying the hackmod factory). I really love that Johnny brought up Clara. I could see him finding love with her. Overall it felt like while Johnny was leaving for a bit he absolutely would be returning home again.
Dutch/Johnny's final conversation was so lovely and so them.
I love that Dutch's reunion with Johnny and D'Avin was at the same time and was a group hug between them. I like that to the end the relationships between the three of them were all equally important.
Dutch/Khlyen made me very happy. Theirs is my second favourite relationship on the show so I was so glad that such a large chunk of the episode was them together. Their relationship is important to me. I really loved how well the show showed Dutch's complicated feelings for him in all their glory. She both hates him for what he did to her and loves him deeply. Her getting to let out her anger and tell him how much he hurt her, and call him on his shit, was great. I loved that she both poisoned him and worried about him over it. I loved her embracing him after she poisoned him. I loved that little moment when Dutch held out her hand to help him up and he took it. Their dance and fight was amazing even if I did feel like Dutch should have done better against him. She has before.
Khlyen has always been a "problematic parent" to both his daughters but it's always been clear that he really loved them and everything he was doing was his (messed up) way of protecting them. I loved how that stayed true till the end. I loved his "I was always happy around her." I like that his main worry was Dutch surviving and him begging her to fight to win. I loved her stabbing him and him telling her "Good girl". I really loved their joyful hug after the defeat of the Lady.
"Sliding through your memories like they were my own" - AHA! And now suddenly it all makes sense to me. Now we see why the Lady was so attached to Khlyen and wanted to be his most beloved daughter. The Lady talking about her feelings on seeing the sisters memories (her favourite was Dutch's birth!) and the pleasure she got was really interesting to me. She was learning from Khlyen yes, but everything she knew about humans she learned from the two of them! I wish this had been brought up at the beginning of the season.
 I liked the Aneela/Lady conversation.
Khlyen wanting to save the Lady because she wanted a name and because he knew she could grow empathetic and change worked for me. I loved that Dutch didn't kill her human body. I'm not sure how it works that she survived even when her true form was killed but okay. I'm just happy she survived. I loved that despite Dutch's harsh words to her in the end the gift she gave the Lady was a doll. I love the symbolism in that. I only wish that during the Lady/Khlyen/Dutch confrontation Khlyen had given her that name she wanted. I can definitely foresee a future where Khlyen and Yalena return and basically adopt the Lady, and she becomes Dutch/Aneela's sister in fact.
The Lady as the big final villain was rather a let down in the end. She didn't feel like that much a threat and in the end defeating her was not really that hard. I did love her sending fighters with her children out into the wider universe. That was clever.
Aneela rushing to the rescue to save Jaq was amazing. Loved her fierceness when she demanded her ship and stalked away and then her showing up to save the guys. I loved Jaq's awed happiness at seeing her and the way she touched his face.
"I'm never going to be nice but I am going to try to be good." I feel like this is the best place we could leave Delle Seyah as a person.
Aneela/Delle Seyah getting their own Hullen happy ending was great. I loved that last shot of them. I love that Aneela gave Kendry the choice and was supportive either way but of course she was always going to choose immortal queenhood with the woman she loved! They were great facing down the Qreshi families. That said I am honestly surprised by their ending. They get basically everything they want - each other and Jaq, and power as rulers of the Quad, plus immortality - which I love because I love them, but they are also the two people who killed the only two goods guys (Pawter, Alvis) who died on the show. I'm surprised the show didn't feel like they needed some sort of punishment for that.
That last shot of Khlyen in his ship, smiling at the black hole, that was him going for Yalena right? I love it. It's all I wanted for them. Even though we don't get to see their reunion (boo!) I am happy with where the show left him.
I was really not happy we didn't get a Khlyen/Aneela scene. She's his daughter too, and their relationship matters. :( She had to have gone to see him when Dutch took him prisoner, right? At the very least a short scene at the end (post-party) of Aneela and Khlyen reuniting and her introducing him to Jaq would have been wonderful.
I also wish that we'd gotten a final Dutch/Aneela conversation. Aneela was so worried about Dutch and Khlyen during her talk with the Lady and then she never actually interacts with either of them afterwards. Meh.
"Hey first of all, you are very smart. But we are about to die and you are psychic as shit so which one is it?" - Johnny. LOL.
Aneela feeling when Jaq was shot was interesting. Did we know they were that connected? Does Jaq feel when Aneela is hurt or is it one-way?
Lucy choosing Johnny was obvious but I liked that we got that moment anyway rather than leaving it unsaid.
"Remember when you were a toddler for five hours and had no opinion? I miss that." - D'Avin. Heh. Jaq luring the Lady in so that he could save his dad and D'Avin getting to hear that, and hear from Jaq how important D'Av is to him made me happy for them.
"Leave you, take Lucy, save Dutch." Aww. The Zeph/Johnny scene was lovely. I loved the teasing and him calling her is "pretend little sister" and reassuring her. I loved their shared understand about what she should do if things went wrong.
The group hug at the beginning was great.
Pip being alive is... really unbelievable. I was with Johnny's "... what???' confused reaction (it was great.) Pip blew up! But fine, whatever. It was nice to see Pip again and I'm glad that Zeph got her happiest ending too.
I wish we'd had a scene between Dutch and Pip or even her reaction to learning he was alive. Her failure to think of a way to save him and the fallout to her relationship with Zeph last season brought her a lot of hurt and it would have been nice to see a resolution there.
"Bitch do not toy with my emotions." - Pree. LOL. Pree becoming Lord Governor of Westerly and Gared surviving was a good end for him and I'm glad.
Turin giving Pree a wet-willy to wake him up post-party - lol.
I wish Fancy had been given something to do but I'm glad that he survived.
I wish we'd seen Renika, Mace and Calvert during the new RAC swearing in ceremony. They were at the family dinner but except for a couple quick shots of Renika all were missing from the final. It would have been an easy way to make it apparent that they're still a new part of the family.
