I Will Rise Up

• This episode actually made me cry, twice, and this is not a show that makes me cry usually. I’ve gotten teary eyed a couple times I think but full out crying is a first. The first time was when Eric broke down on the roof, begging Godric to live, and then the second time, during Godric and Sookie’s conversation before his death. The entire roof scene – first between Godric and Eric, and then between Godric and Sookie – was so very well done. I loved it all.

• Sookie stays completely honest with Godric in the end, not even giving him a comforting lie, but despite not promising to care for Eric I feel like she’s now going to feel an obligation to do so anyway. She watched him break and it’s something she truly does understand. It adds an even stronger bond between them then the blood bond he forces at the beginning of the episode. He showed her his weakness, his pain and grief, and it’s something she is always going to remember about him. (And once again I find myself getting flashes of Elena and Damon.)

• Incidentals: I loved Sookie reaching out to take Eric’s hand as he passed her and her reassuring him that she would stay with Godric, and his little nod to her. It will be good that Sookie will be able to tell Eric that Godric died unafraid. Eric willing to stay and die with his Maker, and Godric not allowing it because he never set Eric free (because Eric never wanted to be free) was touching. The colouring of the scene was interesting – Godric all in white, Eric all in black and Sookie in white/red (too bad it wasn’t a white/black dress).

• I like how the first scene of the episode mirrors the final scene of the episode. In both we have Godric, Eric and Sookie; we have Eric completely ignoring Sookie at first to concentrate only on Godric (he only has eyes for him), and then Eric paying attention to Sookie only after Godric brings her into it (in the beginning by sending Eric to save her, and in the end when he sends Eric away from him).

• I loved Sookie’s dream about her and Eric. I found it very sexy though maybe a bit much with the nudity (I think this show does nudity just to do it not because it fits in the scene). The whole thing was a lot more... gentle/tender then most sex scenes on this show and I liked that. I loved them holding hands the whole time and the way he keeps kissing and touching them. Also the way he keeps touching her body, running his fingers along her was so sexy. I’m assuming that this is Sookie working out her issues? Eric telling her “This is the beginning.” and felt portentous to me.

“He’ll always know where I am and how I feel. Always. That’s worst of all.” – Sookie. Huh. So only a drop or two and the vampire is connected to that human for their entire lifetime? I always thought that it wore off when the blood left their system (and Sookie is constantly needing to drink Bill’s blood not to mention sleeping with him so that’s why the connection remained between them). That’s really kind of horrible – for the vampires. It’s like Sookie’s gift.

• Huh. So humans drinking a vampires blood also pulls them sexually towards that vampire – it forms a sexual attraction on the part of the human? That... kind of adds another, creepy and wrong, layer to the Bill/Sookie relationship. Just how strong is this sexual pull?

“It would have happened sooner or later. He was determined to form this bond with you.” – Bill. And personally I can’t wait until this comes into play.

• It was so obvious that Eric was playing Sookie at the beginning with his faux ‘I’m dying’ shtick – he was just so over the top and it was hilarious. I loved Sookie’s “Son of a mother.” and Eric’s big grin as she was sucking the second piece of shrapnel from his chest. One thing though – if it was just about getting his blood in her he managed it with the first bullet, he didn’t need her to remove a second piece, that was just cause he liked it.

- “Bill, you’re right I believe I do sense her emotions.” – heeeee. Poor Sookie was so proud to be saving him, understandable since he tried to save her at the church and then did save her life at the house when Luke exploded, but she definitely won’t be falling for that again. On the positive the blood she did take in was probably enough to heal whatever injuries she had from the explosion.

• I loved that Sookie’s first thought was for Jason and making sure that he was okay. I like them making up and reaffirming their loyalty to each other.

• I’m very happy that Isabel not only survived the bomb but that Godric made her Sheriff in his place. That’s an excellent choice. More than any other vampire we have met on this show Isabel is the one you could call Godric’s successor, his protégé. She’s already shown a fairness and a willingness to reach out and to consider humans as equals. I mean she truly fell in love with a human. From everything that we see of Godric this is exactly the type of person he would want replacing him. I’m thinking that he’s probably been grooming her for his position for awhile now. How long have they known each other, and how long has she been his Lieutenant? I wish we could have learned more about their relationship because it seems obvious to me that she loves and respects him. I hope that we get to see her again.

• It’s very interesting to see the differences sunlight has on different vampires. That vampires get more flammable the older they get is interesting. Godric was actually smoking even before the sun came out. And as he tells Sookie it happens very quickly. Plus his flames were all blue. It was a very cool affect.

“Take it easy, it’s just a few signatures.” – Nan, pats Godric on the back and leaves. And this was actually the moment where I became interested in Nan. After how pisses she was during the whole scene, how cold and in control, and then this which is so casual, like she let go of her mask of ‘in charge’ now that things had been dealt with. It was interesting. I wonder if she and Godric knew each other before this scene?

• When Jessica told Maxine that she had no family anymore except for Hoyt I was left going ‘uh, what about Bill and Sookie’? Because the show has been very heavy on them as her parent substitutes and even though she’s only known them for a week or two, she’s known Hoyt for a lot less. Then I kind of rolled my eyes a bit at the teenage drama queen-ness of it all.

• I’m very glad that Lafayette (and Lettie Mae) staged an intervention and rescued Tara. It’s actually only been a couple days since things have gotten out of control but it was a very ‘about time!’ moment for me.

• Something I noticed – on the roof Sookie was wearing a red and white gingham dress with white shoes. This stuck out because of Maxine’s random hatred of women who wear red shoes (because it makes them look cheap) that was brought up in this episode and how with a red/white dress you can wear white or red shoes to match. I don’t know if TPTB made this connection and put Sookie in white shoes on purpose? Probably I am seeing more there than there is.
