Whenever You're Ready
It was lovely. Overall a good goodbye to the show and these characters.
I loved Michael becoming human. I loved that Eleanor came up with the idea and made it happen for him. I love that he got something he so desperately wanted for so long.
Janet's emotional goodbye to Michael really got to me. She was so worried and upset! I also really liked the Janet/Michael exchange at Jason's goodbye party and Michael checking in on her.
The wave metaphor was so lovely.
I love that those going through the door arch continue to bring goodness into the universe and help people.
Tahani and Eleanor's goodbye was so nice. I loved Tahani's final goal of "problematically objectifying Eleanor" and the hug.
"I was alone my whole life. And I told myself I like it that way but I don't." - Eleanor. Oh, this moment. Oh, Eleanor.
I love that Chidi's love for Eleanor was so great that even after he realised he was ready to leave he held off and then when he did tell her seeing how scared and upset she was made him agree to stay longer for her. I love that Eleanor realised she was wrong and loved him enough to let him go.
I loved Chidi leaving a calendar of himself as goodbye.
I loved Michael's attempts to go through the door arch and Eleanor and Janet's reactions. I loved Michael trying to piggyback on Eleanor to get through. That whole scene was excellent.
That Jason actually did become a monk in the end was honestly really great.
Jason popping up for a second goodbye with Janet was very him and it was such a nice surprise. I loved Jason's "Chidi, wait up!" as he went through the door arch.
I liked that Jason and Eleanor got a final moment of understanding each other.
I liked Eleanor convince Mindy to give the test and other people a chance. I love that she brought her to Tahani and the Mindy/Eleanor goodbye was nice.
Everyone completing Tahani's final name-drop with her was great.
I'm so happy that Tahani got that happy end (on screen) with both Kamilah and her parents. That little montage of the four of them was so nice.
I liked that as soon as Eleanor realised that Chidi wanted to leave she ran to Michael for help and he was immediately ready to offer her suggestions and his support.
Chidi being all excited for a moment over the possibility of eating words was adorable.
"I know, buddy" Loved that Michael/Shawn moment and Shawn's little smile after this.
I loved Shawn unable to help but sound evil, heh.
Dance Dance Resolution was amazing and I'm glad that Jason got that moment of greatness.
I liked the dinner appearance of Chidi's BFF Uzo and Eleanor's two friends Madison and Brittany, and that Simone was there too.
Michael giving Jeff a real frog was sweet.
I loved Michael giving Tahani the bowtie and what ended up being their last scene.
I was surprised by Tahani becoming an architect. I'd never considered that as a possibility and if I'd have guessed anyone becoming an architect it would have been Eleanor. But that said it actually made sense when I thought about it (super planner Tahani!) and as an end to her story it was really nice.
I liked the little cameos of the season's three human test subjects. Simone having regular dinners with them was nice, I liked that John and Tahani were still close gossip buddies and Brent still being in his test made me smile because yeah that makes sense. But at the same time we spent so much time with these characters for the first half of the season and then they disappeared and in the end it leaves me feeling a little meh.
I really enjoyed this episode and it was filled with a lot of very lovely character moments but at the same time it was kind of lacking in them? I wanted more. I mean they all had many many Jeremmiy Bearimy's together but I wanted to see more of it. Just random little fun scenes or little meaningful bonding scenes between the main 6. Eleanor and Jason, and Tahani and Chidi, and Michael and Janet, and Janet and Tahani, and Jason and Chidi, and etc, etc. in all the combinations. I wanted more.
I was sad when Eleanor was all "I'll be alone" because what about Michael and Janet? They've been just as much a part of her life, she loves both of them and I was upset that those relationships were ignored like that.
I was really not a fan of how post-Chidi Eleanor seemingly spent the rest of her eternity pining over him. It is in fact possible to love multiple people. But far more importantly we see her missing/yearning for him and then cut to her trying to find a way to be satisfied enough to also move on through the door arch and just - it really didn't work for me. It made everything about Eleanor revolve around Chidi. Just showing her with friends/family and doing things that made her happy would have made a big difference. But what I really wanted was Eleanor helping Mindy/Michael, because like with Tahani she wanted to do more, NOT because she wanted to want to move on with Chidi gone. It was just so dissatisfying this way. I ended up wishing that instead of going through the door arch Eleanor had instead found another third option (like Tahani), perhaps continuing to help people.
I was sad that there was no final Tahani/Jason scene.
It felt wrong to not have Tahani at Chidi's farewell. Even if she wasn't supposed to leave the hell side I feel like an exception could have been made for her.
