The Twisted Ones by T. Kingfisher

I really enjoyed it. As always I love how she writes. I don’t read horror much and the tension really got to me. I loved the atmosphere. I liked the humour too.

+ Mouse was great, Foxy was great and I liked that it was Foxy who accompanied Mouse at the end. I loved lovable dumb Bongo. I loved Mouse’s love for Bongo and literally any comment or thought she had about him read so true to me. I was nodding along, all ‘yup, so true’ at every description.

+ The effigies/poppets were super creepy.

+ I did find that the book lost some of the tension at the end for me.

Song of the Beast by Carol Berg

Really enjoyed it.

+ Aiden was very likeable and I loved his connection to the dragons. Him lighting up and causing sparks when others touch him at the end after Roelan became his third wing was cool. I want to know how that plays out.

+ I liked Lara and how the romance played out.

+ I liked the Donel chapter and getting to see Aiden through the POV of someone else.

+ The Elhim were a neat species and I liked the whole history about how the dragons came to be enslaved.

+ I wish that there had been some resolution with Alfrigg who Aiden liked and appreciated but who never realised it and ended in such a bad place with him.

+ I wish there was a sequel because I want to know what happens next – especially with Aiden’s connection with the dragons and how the dragons integrate into the world as not murderous slaves but also with Lara, and the Ridemark without their dragons, the world dealing with all the changes, the Elhim, the new world to the west.
