Briarpatch Episode 1 - 4 Thoughts

iariaEpisode 1 'First Time in Saint Disgrace'
+ It's very stylised and not at all like most shows I watch. I’m not sure how I feel about it.
+ This is a very male heavy show thus far with women other than Allegra as small supporting background but I really liked the little moments of kindness between the women we got. The renter offering her condolences for Allegra’s loss, the nurse sending all the men away and her gentleness and kindness with Allegra, even the woman who answered Spivey’s door was friendly.
+ I’m really not a fan of how both sisters were having affairs with married men.
+ The fact that the police shot the kangaroo at the beginning made me mad – it’s a kangaroo! What the heck did they think it was going to do? >:( Now I’m worried about the tiger. I’m pretty sure it’s going to meet the same fate and it’s going to annoy me so much. Ugh, then we started episode two with the poor dead cat. If this series is going to have a dead animal every episode I might have to call it quits.
+ I’m happy to see Edi Gathegi who is a great actor that’s never in as many things as he should be.
Episode 3 'Terrible, Shocking Things'
+ Allegra’s relationship with Spivey is definitely the most interesting. I loved their talk at the party – his offence when she accused him of being behind the bombs, him calling her family, her worry about him (and the fact that she warned him).
+ I'm liking Allegra and Singe's partnership.
+ I like Cindy. She seems sweet.
+ Harold really isn’t smart, is he? Antagonising the woman who’s threatening you with a gun is just dumb. Cindy deserves better.
+ I'm enjoying all the random zoo animals but also I'm always so nervous about their fate every time we see one.
Episode 4 'Breadknife Weather'
+ The Allegra/Spivey scene at the funeral was great. And I liked the contrast between their irreverence and Singe's horror at the story.
+ I liked getting to see more of Allegra's grief and her letting herself cry at the burial was a nice moment.
+ I felt so bad for Floyd.
+ That exchange between Lucretia and Gene outside the funeral was really weird. I'm interested to see what that was about.
