I'll Stand By You

+ I really loved all the Isobel/Max/Michael this episode.

- It was so nice to have Isobel/Michael being there for each other and talking again, and yet this episode still highlighted the distance that's grown between them. Isobel coming down on the side of Max making his choice and Michael going along with it felt very off to me and I really wasn't buying it. Not even with the abortion/Noah situation could I see Isobel letting Max die. So when the episode proceeded to reveal that they weren't as resigned and accepting as they'd showed each other it made a lot of sense while also making me sad about them feeling the need to put up a false front with each other. I mean Michael's MO is maintaining a distance with everyone else but Isobel is often the exception. Meanwhile I don't get why Isobel didn't tell him about her dream plan?

All that said I loved their hug at the hospital. I loved Michael's reaction to finally learning about the abortion and that little moment between them.

- "Pretend like he hasn't been ours all along."

- "I didn't ask for that Max. I never asked for you." I liked the focus on Michael's feeling for and about Max. I really love him coming up with the alien pacemaker to help save Max's life. I loved that he figured out himself what Max was really doing with trying to kill himself because he knew Max. I liked the flashbacks. I liked how focused Michael was on fixing Max's jeep. His breakdowns - losing it on the jeep, sinking to the floor when Max flatlined - were great moments. I also loved "If you wake up we can be a family"

- I loved Isobel dreamwalking her way back into Max's mind when he started to die, telling him that she would "never let you go alone".

- I love that Michael got Max's tattoo. Isobel has to be next right? I really wish she'd been waiting there for him when he pulled up.

- "You were the only one I couldn't run off." Ummm, is that implying that he did manage to make Is leave? Because, no, I am not buying that. Like, at all. I guess I'm just going to take this as a 'you' equals 'Max/Isobel' in Michael's head. They are one.

- It really feels like it Michael should have been there at the end with Isobel - especially with his line about being a family being the one to lead into the final scene and the repetition that of how important it is that there be three. They are an important triad even, beyond the twin bond, and I wish that had been showcased here. Also it just makes more sense to have Isobel and Michael team up against a possibly out of control Max, and I can think of no good in-universe reason for why he wouldn't be there.

- "You know she'd never let me go." It's weird because during the Michael/Is talk I thought the exact same thing but then when she first met with Max I found myself changing my mind. I bought for a second there that she would let him go and accept his choice in order to save him from the pain. If that's all it had been I think there's a chance she could have (even if it'd be small.) It was learning that he's being self-sacrificing to protect everyone else that switched her back to saving him.

+ "There has to be three. There is always three. ... It's all broken without three." I am very interested in this! That was a lot more than drunken rambles and I want to know exactly what it means.

+ I loved Alex asking Michael if he was in love with Max and then a minute later Michael sarcastically saying "Yeah I'm totally in love with Isobel." He isn't in love with either I'm sure but I love it being brought up all the same. Also Rosa's 'psychic twinscest weirdness', hee.

+ Isobel knocking Rosa out with a book and a pithy 'beg forgiveness later' made me go 'holy fuck Isobel' and yet also nod along all 'yup that is way more in line with what I was expecting for her'.

+ Rosa giving in in the face of Liz's pain was a nice little moment. Her having lightning power is definitely very interesting and I want to know more about that.

+ I liked all the little moments of people being there for each other - our alien trio, Maria/Liz, Rosa/Liz, Kyle/Liz, even Alex/Kyle at the end.

+ I liked that Maria and Alex decided to call it even.

+ This show has really been skipping through time with two week intervals between every episode and now a three week jump, and that's fine to skip ahead for plot stuff but annoying since it forces them to either skip important relationship stuff, mention it in passing or stall relationships for weeks for seemingly no reason, so I have to say I'm not a fan of it.
