Good episode.
+ The final Michael/Sanders scene was really touching. Sanders tried to adopt Michael twice! Michael coming clean about the copper and trying to work out a plan to pay it back, and Walt knowing about it the whole time. Michael left crying alone at the end - knowing how close he came to that happy childhood, that someone out there had wanted him and was looking out for him this whole time.
I really feel for Walt too. When he was a child he had one year, three months and four days of a happy and loving family, and then he lost them in such a horrifying way and it's stayed with him his entire life. Michael could have been his family and that was taken from him too. He tried to brush it off that it was for the best since he might have screwed Michael up even more but he so wrong. He tried twice. He went back a second time for Michael. And then he still tried his best to be there for him by giving him a safe place to escape to. They would have been good for each other.
My hope leaving this episode is that they still can be. Now that the truth is out they can actually have a real honest relationship and I'm surprised by how much I want that.
+ I enjoyed the Michael/Isobel/Sanders scenes. I loved how they both interacted with him. I loved Isobel trying to be threatening before moving to bribery. I loved Sanders little touch to her hand and telling her that she was like her mother before leaving. It was such a kind gesture. I liked the flashbacks.
+ Kyle/Liz were so great. I loved her telling him that she would have fought like hell to save him. I loved him giving her shit for being hypocritical and her accepting it. I loved him knowing she was hiding something and her instantly giving in and spilling what she's doing. I loved them giving each other romantic advice. I just really appreciate them together. They fit so well!
"I compared our dna."
"You did?"
"Hi, I'm Liz, have we met?"
LOL. That was adorable. I love that Kyle actually nods and shakes her hand.
+ The reveal that it had been Max screaming and drawing on the walls just before the Evans walked in, that Michael took the crayon from him to calm him down, is so deeply sad. Max really was the reason Michael was left behind. Michael who suffered so much because of it. :( I both love this reveal and find it deeply upsetting. Twice we're shown that Michael almost got a happy childhood! I don't want Michael to resent Max but I don't know that I believe him when he says he doesn't.
Meanwhile we keep getting little drips of information - child Max chained up, Max furiously screaming and writing on the walls, Noah calling him the "Savior" - and I am getting impatient! I wish they would tighten up their plotting and concentrate more on the alien stuff.
Nora says: "I have to protect her. At all costs. I protect Louise because only Louise can protect the child." and Michael assumes "the child" is Max, which seems a good bet which in turn is making me wonder if we are misconstruing what she said. Maybe it's not Max but someone else, or maybe it's all three of them? Drunk Max said it had to be three - maybe together they are 'the child' and there is something fundamentally important about them as a trio. I really love that idea. Also why can only Louise protect the child?
+ I am deeply annoyed that we didn't get an Isobel/Max scene talking about the information Is found out about their mother. He tells Liz he talked to her but that is a talk we damn well should have seen. Why isn't Max involved in this storyline?!
+ I was annoyed that Isobel didn't tell Michael that Max was calling her for help. I don't care that he just finished complaining about Max as the Chosen One. They are family! Also we got Max saying in that flashback episode ago that 'there has to be three, there is always three' and then it hasn't been addressed since. Get a move on it show!
+ I found Sheriff Valenti's seeming obsession with Max having killed Noah strange and a little random but what we learned in this episode made it work for me. Her having been there when they were found as kids and being obsessed with their case, her suspecting Max because of what she knew of his past and being so aggressive because she wanted to help him were actually great.
I liked Kyle being so protective of his mom. I liked him pushing Max into confessing about his heart surgery. I loved Valenti and Max's final scene and him telling her the truth about Noah - that he was a serial killer, that he hurt Isobel, that he was hit by lightning.
+ Why wouldn't Alex show Michael the napkin full of alien writing? Or Isobel?
+ Jesse being a lying faker who can't be trusted is the least shocking thing ever.
