I enjoyed it. It was a lot of fun.
I loved Eddie and Venom. I love how possessive Venom is of Eddie - "You are mine." I loved Venom changing his mind because of Eddie. I loved Eddie reaching out to Venom after they got separated. I loved Venom's "Goodbye Eddie" and (almost) sacrificing himself to save Eddie.
I wish we'd had more scenes of Eddie and Venom together, bonding and learning about each other, to make Venom's face-heel turn because of Eddie work more. As is it was very sudden with no real reasoning/showing the "destroy the world" to "save the world" switch.
I'm OT3ing Eddie/Venom/Annie. Like all sides of that relationship weirdly work really well for me. Venom decided to save the world because of Eddie; Eddie clearly likes Venom and there's just how well they bonded; Annie goes to extremes to help Eddie, Eddie is clearly in love with her still and I like how he treats her; Annie's "It did feel kind of great though" about being Venom's host; and Venom immediately liking her upon first meeting, leaving her behind specifically to protect her, and then his "You belong with us Annie" and using "we" about getting her back at the end. Not to mention that it was apparently Venom's idea for the threeway kiss as a method to transfer him back to Eddie, which was completely unnecessary (but great.) Also Stan Lee encouraged "don't you give up on her. Either of you". Clearly this threesome is meant to be.
I really loved the exchange between the three of them in the woods. I love that Eddie immediately advocates for Annie's inclusion in the fight and belief that she could handle it, even though he's seen the sort of insanity that follows a symbiotic fight. I love the respect he has for her. I love that she was immediately down to help. I love that it was Venom who was all "nope, not safe enough for her" and being over-protective. I loved her "oh, that's bullshit" when they took off without her.
I loved Venom. I loved how open he was about also being a loser. He was just a very fun character.
I liked Eddie a lot more than I thought I would based on the trailer. He was a genuinely good guy! I loved his friendship with the homeless Maria and the shopkeeper Mrs. Chen, and that his show was all about trying to help people and uncover corruption. I liked how he was with Annie, and with Dan and about their relationship.
Annie was really great. I loved that she let an alien parasite inside her to save Eddie. I loved that she was determined to help and even after being abandoned in the woods she got back and figured out a way to do so. I loved that she saw a scary alien creature that just killed a bunch of cops but when Eddie told her "I need help" she immediately decided to help him. I love that she literally within the last hour learned about this alien infecting her ex and her reacting by trying to talk to and reason with it over the harm it was doing to Eddie and then when things dissolved into violence she immediately used Venom's weakness against him to protect the men.
I liked Dan. I like that he was a good guy who genuinely liked Eddie’s work, that when he saw Eddie in need of help that's exactly what he tried to do and was genuinely worried about him, and that he was never once jealous or worried about Annie’s relationship with Eddie. He was great!
"Now let’s bite all their heads off and pile them in the corner." LOL!
I’m going to assume Venom taking it easy on the initial recovery team was Eddie’s morals bleeding through? Or was it because they were so new and Venom was getting used to the new body?
"No, you do not eat policemen!" First, LOL. Second, you just killed over a dozen of them so it might be a little late to be laying down rules, you know?
The motorcycle chase was fun but a bit too long. I loved Eddie thanking Venom for saving him at one point and Venom saying 'you're welcome' in return.
"That hurts. Long journal entry about that tonight." - Drake. Ha. I liked Drake as the villain. He, with his human experimentation and lack of care for the deaths, was clearly evil but I like that his motivation to help humanity seemed genuine and that we got to see multiple sides to him. Megalomaniac killer but good with children! The actor was pretty charismatic so he made it work.
I wasn’t a fan of the look of Venom!Annie. I don’t care if it was in the comics.
I kind of love that Eddie is completely fine with Venom not only killing but eating any "bad guys" at the end. No hesitation about him eating people at all.
