I liked it okay.

I really wish there had been more focus on the Asset as a person and that more time had been spent developing him. I feel like of all the characters in the movie he’s actually the one who gets the least amount of attention which feels a little crazy to me. He ended up feeling more like a mcgruffin then a character in his own right. What we did get was great though and I loved him at the end.

I also really wanted more time spent on the Elisa/Asset relationship. I liked them but I was surprised how undeveloped they ended up feeling and I wanted more. Especially more of them learning to communicate and getting to know each other in the beginning, and seeing them both fall in love. It felt like an important piece to the story was missing.

I liked Elisa. I loved her signing fuck off to Stickland.

How the ending played out was great and I loved the reveal that her scars were gill slits.

I liked the Elisa/Giles and Elisa/Zelda friendships. I wish we could have seen more of Zelda and Zelda/Elisa interacting outside of work but I loved her coming when a panicked Elisa called her, not saying anything when Stickland threatened her and then calling Elisa to warn her.

I hope Zelda and Giles became close friends post-movie. Maybe Zelda can leave her husband she doesn't seem that happy with and move into Elisa's old apartment and they can be there for each other. (And then find their own monster men for a happily ever after ending.)

I would have taken away a lot of the Stickland stuff. Everything with his fingers was disgusting. All the family/car/career stuff didn't really add anything - I feel like he would have been just as understandable/unlikable a bad guy without it and so it felt unnecessary to the story. The time would have been better spent on the Asset and Elisa's relationship with him.

I liked Dmitri and helping them save the Asset but as with Stickland all the time spent on him felt really unnecessary. The KGB side-story could have easily been cut.

I loved Giles and the Asset’s goodbye.

I am really glad I knew about the cat death going in because as soon as the Asset approached the cat I skipped ahead. I don’t need to see that. I did like the scene between Giles and the Asset afterwards and that Giles didn’t blame him. Also his “don’t play with the kitties” later on amused me.

Elisa flooding her bathroom was just such an insane thing to do I can't get over it.
