I loved this episode.
So much happened and progressed but we still got some really lovely character scenes and development, especially with Gon/Tae-eul. I wanted to watch this episode so much after the last one that I ended up watching the first half hour before going to sleep, lol. I couldn't wait!
+ I loved Gon/Tae-eul so much. This was their best episode yet and I am so invested in this couple at this point.
- The expanded reunion scene was so good. I'm glad we got to see Gon go from the dramatic walk with his guards to running to Tae-eul. I adored the way they came together and clung to each other. That was such an amazingly great hug. I loved the way he touched her face and held her head and couldn't stop touching her. I liked her repeating three times that she missed him.
- Their conversation in his bed was wonderful from start to finish. I loved him tucking her in and kissing her forehead.
- I really loved Gon saying he “wanted to stop beheading people” and Tae-eul sassily replying ”Go ahead and try me.” while offering her neck and Gon responding by kissing it. That was really hot, I loved it. Then it leading to him kissing her again and again, and, presumably, them sleeping together was great. I do wish we’d seen her reaching out to him – either touching him or kissing him, just being active in some way.
- I loved Gon revealing that he’s been sleeping beside Tae-eul. He did say that he wouldn’t be ‘so considerate next time’ during the field scene.
- Gon taking her straight to his chambers was great - no guest room for her any more. I loved that he sat outside his bedroom waiting for the doctor to leave, for maybe hours, without going in nor bugging them for an update. Just sitting there waiting.
- "If that door closes I’ll open all the doors in the universe and I’ll come to you." And thus that moment when he crossed time to tell her he loved her - because his gate was closed. It's very worrying!
- I love how the way Tae-eul ties her hair up when she 'means business' has become an important piece for Gon to know it’s her. His overwhelming relief when he watched the security video and realised it was her alive and well was so well done.
- I loved Gon making rice for Tae-eul. I love that he listens and remembers everything about their interactions. I love that he’s ridiculous/romantic enough to actually do it. It amuses me that he ended up washing an entire bag of rice waiting for her to show up and his subsequent whining about it.
- I was sure after the last episode that things were heading to Tae-eul accepting Gon's proposal but despite her being brought up as the future queen multiple times in the episode she doesn't actually give any indication of accepting his proposal. In fact she appears to be planning on going on with her 'no thinking of the future' plan. This is super not practical. This show has been really good about characters not keeping secrets so I really hope Gon shares with her the time stopping side affect and how it's lengthening.
- I liked that Gon put together new clothes that followed Tae-eul's style instead of trying to give her a makeover. And putting a copy of the necklace in the pocket of each outfit - lol.
- I liked this line: "I support her every step and every moment."
- I thought when Gon asked the priest for a favour he was going to ask him to secretly marry them.
- I love how dramatic everyone’s introduction to Tael-eul is especially after how they tried to keep her secret on her previous visit.
- I loved her telling Gon that she understands the need for taste testers now.
- "I like you more than Yeong." - Gon
"That's such a lie." - Tae-eul.
LOL. Very cute moment. I also liked him saying sorry, her little laugh and then pausing to ask 'sorry?' and him revealing he said it to get her to look at him again.
+ I loved the Yeong/Shin-jae scene. And while they didn't interact this was a great episode for Yeong/Gon. I loved Yeong revealing that when he saw Gon at his coronation he thought "I want him to be happy". At four! I love that Yeong thinks their relationship is fate. I loved that Shin-jae, in the face of Yeong's devotion to Gon since childhood, immediately asks if they're dating and Yeong smiles and calmly states that there are rumours. I loved Yeong's explanation - saying that Gon is his "law and justice" that he will protect with his life, and comparing it to Shin-jae and Tae-eul being cops. I loved Yeong declaring that he will ("must") follow Gon no matter the battlefield. Also Yeong throwing the bottle at Shin-jae's head for being disrespectful when talking about Gon was great (and a step-forward from pointing a gun at him!)
+ I don't think I've ever said this but I love Lee Gon. He's just great. I love him being all math geeky. I like how measured and calm he usually is. I love his ruthless side. I love his romantic devotion. I love how curious and intelligent he is. I love that he's a genuinely kind man. I love that he's completely ridiculous sometimes, and childish.
+ So now both of Gon's Unbreakable Sword(s) have been shot, and in basically the same place. Does this bode well for their survival or not? I have to admit of all the characters I am most worried about Yeong. He will absolutely sacrifice himself for Gon and I can see it happening. But after Gon and Tae-eul he's the character I most want to survive. It'll make me so sad if he dies!
+ "Every woman I like is unwell." Aw. I loved what little Ok-nam/Gon we got. I loved her concern for him when she saw him covered in blood. I loved that he stayed away because Ok-nam told him to. I really loved him hugging her when he thanked her. They are so sweet.
+ Ok-nam is from Korea!!! Well, holy shit. I definitely didn’t see that twist coming. Wow. She crossed over 67 years ago as a 17 year old. So the big question is how? Does this mean Gon’s grandfather was using the flute?
+ I also didn't see Eun-ah having replaced Seo-ryung already. We had all the lead up but I was expecting it to occur onscreen and ended up shocked by the reveal. I guess this means she has to be dead, right? I didn't think this was how it was going to go for her and honestly I'm not sure that is what's going on? I mean what was Lim doing by sending her the news clippings if he was simply going to replace her like everyone else?
Plus Eun-ah played Seo-ryung perfectly. Honestly a little too perfectly - she had the sniping with pregnant lady down, her interactions/sniping with Gon felt exact like what we've seen between them before. And when Yeong confronted the person he thought was Seo-ryung she really did seem like Seo-ryung. It muddies the situation a bit. So I don't know, I think that there might be something more going on with this situation that will be revealed in the next episode.
+ What is Gon even going to do about Eun-ah? He can't disappear her into an oubliette or kill her like the other Lim followers. He can't even grab her and force her back to Korea because she's the prime minister. Even as king I don't see how he can act against her.
+ Gon crying after time froze during their first picture together was so sad. According to his calculations everyone was frozen for 4489 seconds aka 74 minutes. He stood there alone in the frozen world for over an hour! And then him pulling it together to smile for the picture - ouch.
I am very worried about this and what it could mean for Lim. When Gon goes through to Korea next Lim is going to have an hour of frozen time to act. He could kill anyone he wanted! I hope Gon realises just how dangerous this is.
The freezing seems to be a set up for a bittersweet ending where Gon is forced to close the gates between the worlds. But the time freezes only began once Gon started travelling between worlds as well as Lim; Lim seemed to travel fine for those 25 years. So if Gon gets the other half of the flute he should be able to continue to travel between worlds without the side effects.
+ "Announcing the queen after so much blood was shed... that’s a very symbolic show of action." Wait, did Gon make an official announcement or is he talking about Gon's cry to protect Tae-eul before the charge? Because if the latter only his royal guards on horseback with him should have heard that. Did one blab? Or was it the explanation given for her presence at the palace? Also where did the photos come from? I suppose Gon is really just completely done hiding. Possibly though he should tell Tae-eul, lol. Because she does not seem to realise that she's been declared the future queen of Corea. Although once they dig up 'her' criminal past it's going to create a serious issue.
+ I’m still not sure how Gon knew Tae-eul was in Corea instead of being in danger in Korea where he last saw her.
+ I didn’t get Gon shooting the last bullets from the gun. It was very dramatic and I kind of loved how it played out but it confused me. I guess he could be covering up evidence that Tae-eul used the gun? But then he's king, and as this episode made obvious, he can do whatever the hell he wants. He could have just had Ho-pil dispose of it.
+ The lightning scars spreading to people other than Gon and Lim is interesting. We don't get to see everyone so we don't know if say Yeong/Eun-sup were affected but Tae-eul isn't. I don't buy the curse idea she floated because Gon has been affected from the beginning. Instead I wonder if this is yo-yo kid interceding again by making it clear who all the 'bad' cross over people are? ie. the ones working for Lim and/or those who killed their doppelgangers to take over their lives?
+ Eun-sup’s version of a security check - lol. I loved him asking Gon to open the bathroom door so he could get the hospital only for Gon to actually open the door, heh. I loved his joy and relief at seeing Tae-eul.
+ I liked that Na-ri immediately allowed 'Eun-sup' to drive away in her very expensive car.
+ Yeong refusing to go to the hospital after being shot and dealing with it himself made me go 'I knew it!' I knew if he'd been in Eun-sup's place he'd have been back at Gon's side immediately.
+ Ok-nam is so great. I loved her vaguely annoyed reaction to 'Sook-jin' falling to the floor bleeding from the mouth. I love how tough she is.
+ Why did Shin-jae's Corean mother poison herself? I suppose she knew that with the bookstore raid she'd eventually be discovered.
+ If Lim had the foresight to keep Jeong-hye alive as ‘bait’ for Gon then I’m genuinely surprised that he didn’t keep Ji-hun alive as well. I thought there was a good chance we'd see a grown up Ji-hun, raised to be loyal to Lim and eventually take Gon's place, but at this point in the series there has been no sign of him so I think that's definitely a dead theory. That's certainly a big misstep on his part. I suppose that upon being confronted by Ji-hun in the same way Gon did, so soon after his plan was ruined and he was forced to run, Lim reacted in anger instead of strategically?
+ I do like that Lim thinks only now that his plans are falling apart when his plan for Jeong-hye was always a failure. I mean we haven't seen Gon react when confronted face-to-face with her but based on everything we've seen I don't think she'd work as bait or be a weakness. I hope it actually ends up getting turned around Jeong-hye proves to be an essential part of his downfall. She certainly deserves that.
+ Luna blatantly walking into Lim’s home and stealing a bunch of money and then crushing a cigarette in the entrance was great. I love how contemptuous she is of him.
+ I’m annoyed that Seo-ryung’s approval numbers went down when it came out Gon picked someone else as his queen. And with her cabinet's sniping at her. Ugh. They suck.
So much happened and progressed but we still got some really lovely character scenes and development, especially with Gon/Tae-eul. I wanted to watch this episode so much after the last one that I ended up watching the first half hour before going to sleep, lol. I couldn't wait!
