Goong / Princess Hours Episode 17 Thoughts
Aug. 2nd, 2020 03:14 pm+ Hyo-rin did a big turn around after the last episode and I enjoyed where her story went. Apparently she just needed the Queen to act as the good angel on her shoulder in opposition to Hwa-young as devil. I liked her giving an interview to tell the truth/protect Shin. I appreciated her scene with Chae-kyung and her acknowledging that she's a good person who has also been hurting a lot. I liked her resolve to accept Shin if he chooses her but to stop chasing him. I hope she took the Queen up on her patron offer. That she shut Hwa-young down so resolutely makes me think she did which gives me hope for her story going forward. She says that she has no regrets but that is clearly a lie since all her actions post the first episode has been driven by her regrets but hopefully that's how she's choosing to move forward.
+ "Don't let Shin go." Now that's interesting. Does she have an idea of Hwa-young's machinations? Does she realise that Shin cares about Chae-kyung more than her and would be deeply hurt if she left her and thus is putting his feelings first?
+ Shin's confrontation with Yin was semi-understandable (he likes Hyo-rin and is worried) but basically everything Yin said made me go 'wrong'. Hyo-rin isn't 'ruined' and she's in this position because of her own 'irresponsible' behaviour not Shin. As he said Shin is the crowned prince so why does he assume he had a choice on the arranged marriage? Even if he does like someone else?
+ I love how unashamed Chae-kyung's father is of being a house-husband. He was born to do housework, ha.
+ How the heck did Chae-kyung get a license since she clearly can't drive? And if she doesn't have one why is she allowed on the road? I did love the reactions around it - the palace servants in the background (I wish her maids had been there), her friends gamely joining her even as it freaked them out, Shin laughingly telling her he didn't want to die, and Yul following her the entire (very slow) journey with fond amusement.
+ Chae-kyung's "it depends on the girl" and claiming Shin's nicer because of her, while Hyo-rin was at the table, was pretty inconsiderate. She didn't mean it as a jab but ouch all the same.
+ Yul clearly instigated the weekend away to force Hyo-rin back into Shin's orbit which made me a little less sympathetic to his angst over Shin and Chae-kyung sharing a room and being coupley. What did he expect?
+ They really should have done better to establish Yul having a life outside the palace because when he said he wanted to invite his friends to a party it was a very 'what friends?' and then sure enough it was Chae-kyung's trio and Shin's trio plus Hyo-rin. Hyo-rin I guess could be considered his friend and he was added to Chae-kyung's whole friend group so maybe them too?
